Nigerians react as former militant leader, Tompolo comes out of hiding after 6-years







Former Niger Delta militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo a.k.a Tompolo is currently trending on Twitter after coming out of hiding. 

Tompolo, who led the disbanded Movement for Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND), went into hiding after President Muhammadu Buhari was sworn-in in 2015. 

In 2016, the government declared him wanted for ignoring two bench warrants issued against him by the  Federal High Court in Lagos, where he was charged with N45.9bn fraud. 

Three years later, the court dismissed all the charges against Global West Vessel Specialist Limited, a company linked to the former Niger Delta militant leader.

Despite the court decision to drop the charges, Tompolo still remained in hiding until October 19, 2020, when he made an appearance at the Egbesu Shrine in his Oporoza country home in Gbaramatu, Delta State.

He was filmed singing and dancing to an Ijaw song with his kinsmen while dressed in traditional outfits. Watch the video here.

Tompolo who is also an Egbesu priest, has been away from the public glare for six years following military and legal wars declared against him by the Federal Government of Nigeria. Within the past six years, this frontline security and peace advocate was neither seen in public gathering nor any of his recent pictures seen in the media.

It would be recalled that Ekpemupolo was charged alongside a former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Patrick Akpolokemi; Kime Engozu; Rex Elem; Gregory Mbonu; and Warredi Enisuoh, at a Lagos Division of the Federal High Court.. But the court on Wednesday July 15, 2019 dismissed all the 40 counts bordering on alleged N34 billion fraud filed by the Federal Government against Global West Vessel Specialist Limited, a company linked to the former Niger Delta militant leader.

The real Government is back

Despite Federal Government, EFCC and Nigeria Army declaring Tompolo wanted over 6 years ago and looking for him, Tompolo has been attending different function in villages and creeks across Niger Delta, one need to study the guy as a course how he has been able to elude the authorities(Obasanjo era and Buhari era) that have been looking for him but he keeps making appearances in villages and creeks both during the Obasanjo era and Buhari era.
