FAAN calls out ex-Zamfara state gov, Abdulaziz Yari, for allegedly flouting COVID-19 guidelines at the Aminu Kano airport







The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria FAAN on Wednesday morning, July 15 via its Twitter handle, called out immediate past governor of Zamfara state, Abdulaziz Yari, for blatantly ''flouting all COVID19 guidelines'' at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport on Saturday, July 11.

According to FAAN's statement, Yari arrived at the airport and refused to adhere to the protocols put in place by the Federal government, insisting he is a VIP.

The Management of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) hereby strongly condemns the conduct of the former Governor of Zamfara State, Alh. Abdulaziz Yari who blatantly violated the Public Health procedures (COVID19) on travels at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport on Saturday 11th July 2020.
 
He refused to adhere to the protocols and procedures put in place by the Federal Government through the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on #COVID19 by forcefully pushing away an officer of the Environment department when he insisted that his luggage must be disinfected.
 
The former Governor said the officer should have known he is a VIP. This irresponsible act endangers all other airport users, it is unacceptable, and as such it has been duly escalated.
 
FAAN hereby cautions all airport users, especially our esteemed VIPs , to please respect the Presidential directive by observing the Public Health travel protocols put in place to protect all air travellers against infection and the spread of the covid-19 pandemic.''

Direct your bail application to presidential panel- IGP tells suspended EFCC boss, Ibrahim Magu







The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu, has asked suspended EFCC boss, Ibrahim Magu, to direct his bail application to the Presidential Panel investigating the allegations of corruption against him and not the police.
 

LIB last week Friday July 15, reported that Magu had written a letter through his counsel, Oluwatosin Ojaomo, to the IGP asking for bail on self-recognizance.  Magu has been detained at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) since Monday, July 6 when he first appeared before the presidential panel probing him over the allegations of corruption leveled against him by the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami. 

 
Responding to his letter, the police chief said Magu is not being detained by the police but by the Presidential Panel investigating the activities of the EFCC. The letter written by his Principal Staff Officer, DCP Idowu Owohunwa, dated 14th July, 2020 reads
 

“Your letter OOC/TOL/89A/07/2020 of July 2020 on the above underlines subject, refers.


The Inspector General of Police directs that your attention be drawn to the fact that the Nigeria Police Force is not investigating CP Ibrahim Magu (your client), and he is accordingly, not being detained by the Police but by the Presidential Panel that is investigating the activities of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).


The Inspector General of Police therefore advises that you consider redirecting your request to the Chairman of the Presidential Panel for appropriate attention.

I did not assault airport official nor flout COVID-19 protocols- former governor, Abdulaziz Yari replies FAAN







Immediate past governor of Zamfara, Abdulaziz Yari, has denied claims made by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria FAAN that he assaulted an airport official at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport last Saturday, July 11.
 
On Wednesday, July 15, FAAN took to its official Twitter handle to call out the former governor for allegedly flouting the COVID-19 protocol and assaulting one of its officials at the Kano International Airport last Saturday. The aviation authority claimed Yari insisted he was a VIP and should be excused.
 
However, in a statement issued by his media aide, Mayowa Oluwabiyi, Yari such a thing never happened and demanded a retraction and apology from FAAN. He also threatened to file a lawsuit against former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, who attacked him after seeing FAAN's tweets.
 
Yari's statement reads

“We wish to state categorically that His Excellency Abdulaziz Yari did pass through the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport on the said day but did not assault any airport official. He also followed all the COVID 19 preventive protocols set by FAAN.


The incident cited in the tweet simply never happened. H.E Abdulaziz Yari finds the tweet odious and distasteful, he therefore demands that FAAN retract the offensive tweet and tender an immediate public apology to him for the falsehood published about his person.


His Excellency Abdulaziz Yari also noted the unwarranted and needlessly vicious attack on his person and reputation by the former Minister of Aviation, Mr. Femi Fani-kayode via his Twitter handle @realffk as a result of the tweet from FAAN earlier on Wednesday.


We wish to re-affirm that H.E Abdulaziz Yari, the former governor of Zamfara state is a law-abiding Nigerian who will never resort to violence on any issue whatsoever.


H.E Yari holds the Federal Government of Nigeria in very high esteem and supports all steps taken by the Presidential Task Force on COVID 19 to fight the deadly pandemic.


However, the vicious attack on the person and reputation of H.E Abdulaziz Yari cannot be winked at. Mr. Femi Fani-kayode will hear from H.E Yari’s lawyers in due course in order to set the record straight.”
