Tension heightened on Saturday’s night at the Ondo State Government House in Alagbaka, Akure after the Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi was prevented from leaving the Government House by the Commissioner of Police, Salami Bolaji.


DAILY POST gathered that the security operatives were acting out the order of the Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

The Deputy Governor was alleged to have looted government property from his lodge in his bid to take them to his personal house within the state capital.
The move against Ajayi was not unconnected to his planned defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that is expected to take place on Sunday.

In a video obtained by DAILY POST, the deputy governor was seen exchanging words with the Commissioner of Police, Salami Bolaji at the gate of the Government House as he was prevented from leaving. He said it was unfortunate that the police were being used in the ongoing political battle in the state.

Ondo State Police Commissioner, Salami Bolaji has reacted to the controversy that trailed a viral video of him trying to stop Ondo state Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi from leaving the state house in Akure. 
 

In a statement released by Police spokesman ASP Tee-Leo Ikoro, the police commissioner insisted that he is apolitical and his job entails him to protect lives and property of citizens of the state. 
 

He said he was at the state house to settle dispute between aides of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and the Deputy Governor. Bolaji added that the dispute centered on the number of cars the Deputy Governor could move out of the place at night.
 
The Police Commissioner who averred that the viral video is an attempt to foment sentiment and misunderstanding, maintained that his policing architecture he would never police lawlessness in the state against laid-down policing rules.
 
The statement read;
 

“It is only necessary that his presence at the scene as the Command’s Commissioner of Police could calm frayed nerves.


“Having listened to the reason for the misunderstanding, he advised both sides to come to terms, a condition they both agreed.


“CP Salami has never been a politician all through his life and would not want to be dragged into politics.


“He advised the good people of Ondo that as the race to Ondo government house draws very close, politicians with interest in the race should learn to play their game with the dictate of its laws; and also advise their followers to shun any act capable of causing chaos or lawlessness in the State as he concluded. 


“He vowed to police Ondo State and its people with humility. He will not allow the ego and sentiment of any individual dictate what form of policing style he should use”.
