Protesters in London held placards saying “Racism has no place” and “I can't breathe” - a reference to George Floyd's words during arrest.

Thousands of people have gathered across central London to protest against the killing of George Floyd's by the Police in the US.

They were seen signs saying “ Justice for George Floyd” who died in Minneapolis while an office knelt on his neck to pin him down.

Thousands of Black lives matter has the protesters marched across Central London on Sunday to protest against the killing of an unarmed black man by police in the US.

In a video of the arrest of Mr Flour he could be heard begging, “ I can't breathe” last Monday in Minneapolis before he died while being restrained.

The protests have been held at Trafalgar Square and outside the US Embassy in Battersea, south London, chanting “say his name: George Floyd” and “no justice, no peace, no racist police”.
They also held up placards saying “racism has no place”, and “I can’t breathe”.

Black Lives Matter said: “We are doing this to place pressure on the American government and show that this is a world wide issue.”
The Met Police said officers were present and were engaging with those in attendance.
Hundreds of people marched through Peckham in south London on Saturday in protest against police brutality.

Man injured by police during George Floyd protest reveals he has lost one eye after surgery






A man has lost his eye after being struck in the face by a gas canister thrown by a police while he was protesting George Floyd's murder.
 
The man, who has been identified as Balin Brake, 21, was taking part in downtown demonstrations when he was hit by a projectile gas canister. The canister ruptured his eye and left him bleeding.
 
Fort Wayne Police on Sunday evening said the injury was incidental and not the result of a deliberate attempt to injure the man.
 
After the incident, Brake took to Twitter to reveal that he is scheduled to have surgery on Sunday, May 31, and he may lose his eye after surgery.
 

 
After the surgery, Brake told ABC21 that his damaged eye has been removed, leaving him with just one eye.
 

 
Reacting to the incident in a statement released late Sunday, FWPD officials said: "According to our officers on the ground, the protester was still in the area after commands to leave the area were given. Gas was deployed in the area and the protester bent over to pick up the canister to throw it back at officers as many others were trying to do. When he bent over another canister was deployed in the area and that canister skipped and hit the protester in the eye. There was no deliberate deployment of gas to any persons head."
 
 
A woman was also badly injured when police officers fired a rubber bullet at her during a protest. In a photo shared online, a gaping hole can be seen in the middle of the woman's forehead, with blood streaming down her face.

On Sunday night, protests decrying the police killing of black Minneapolis man George Floyd continued, as over 50 Secret Service agents were injured in clashes outside the White House premises.
 

 
Tens of thousands of protesters gathered in 140 cities across the US prompting the National Guard to be deployed to calm tensions down, as the US hasn't seen unparalleled civil unrest like this since the 1968 assassination of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. 
 
Despite the heavy national guard presence, protesters refused to be deterred as 4,100 people have been arrested this weekend alone, while protesters in Philadelphia hurled rocks and Molotov cocktails at police, stores in New York and San Francisco were raided, and fires being ignited just outside the White House. 
 

 
On Sunday night, in Washington D.C. a fire was set ablaze in the historic St. John's Episcopal Church and Lafayette Park just in front of the White House just as Secret service agents assembled and formed a defence line just in front of the White House.
 
The fire at St. John's cathedral, which was opened in 1816 at Washington D.C was put out by 11pm.
 

 
The fire at Lafayette Park, located just in front of the White House, started after a protester set a US flag on fire sending smoke into the air as more than 1,000 gathered and raised their fists in solidarity. 
 
40 cities have now imposed curfews while Washington state governor Jay Inslee has blasted the riots 'illegal and dangerous' but adding they should not 'detract from the anger so many feel at the deep injustice laid so ugly and bare by the death of George Floyd'.  
 

 
According to multiple reports by US media houses,  at least five people have been killed in protest violence in Detroit and Indianapolis while in Omaha a 22-year-old black protester was killed in a struggle with a local business owner.
 
In Louisville, a man was shot dead by law enforcement officers, but it was not clear if he was shot s a result of the protests.

Floyd Mayweather has reportedly offered to pay all of George Floyd's funeral expenses in four different cities.
 
Hollywood Unlocked broke the news Monday that the retired American boxer told the publication’s founder CEO Jason Lee about his commitment to take care of all Floyd’s funeral expenses. 
 
During a private conversation between Mayweather and Hollywood Unlocked CEO Jason Lee, the retired boxer reportedly shared that he was distraught after learning the minimal charge former officer Chauvin Derek received for killing George Floyd last week Monday. 
 
Mayweather added that Anzel Jennings, CEO of his TMT music label, grew up with Floyd in Houston and that Jennings reached out to the Floyd family on his behalf. 
 
The 43-year-old ex-boxer then offered to pay all of George Floyd's funeral expenses. 
 
The family plans to hold three services in different locations, including Houston, Floyd’s hometown, Charlotte, and Minneapolis. 
 
According to HU, the family is also looking for a fourth location to have a celebration of life. Mayweather also offered to take care of those expenses as well,” 
 
While the original conversation with Mayweather was in private, HU's Jason Lee explained that “I felt it was important to share this because his voice has a global impact that needs to be heard, especially during these times," he said.
 
Although, a GoFundMe campaign created by Floyd’s brother, Philonise Floyd, for his memorial has received more than 290,000 donations totaling to $7,583,670, as of Monday evening (June 1).

Kellie Chauvin, 45, filed for “dissolution of marriage” to Derek Chauvin, the 44-year-old white officer charged with murder and manslaughter in the death of George Floyd.
 
According to court papers obtained by The Sun, Kellie said in a court filing that she doesn’t want any money or financial assistance from her now ex, despite being an unemployed realtor at the moment.

“Respondent is full capable of supporting herself,” the filing states.
 
Both Kellie and her estranged husband waived their rights to "temporary or permanent spousal maintenance," from each other, according to the court papers.
 
The former Mrs Minnesota cited “irretrievable breakdown” of their relationship was to blame for ending their 10-year marriage.
 
She said she broke up with Derek on May 28, three days after he was accused of killing George Floyd by kneeling on his neck.
 
Kellie, who once worked as a radiologist at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, the same hospital where Floyd was pronounced dead, also applied to the court to have her name changed with the papers stating: "As part of this proceeding, Petitioner shall adopt a new legal name.
 
"She is seeking a name change solely because of this marriage dissolution."

George Floyd Killing: Ex-cop Derek Chauvin's charges to be increased to second-degree murder with his three other colleagues now set to be charged




 



Minnesota Attorney General, Keith Ellison is increasing charges against former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin to second-degree murder in George Floyd's killing and also charging the other three officers involved in the incident following calls for their arrest.
 
The three other ex-officers involved in the killing are Tou Thao, Thomas Lane, and J. Alexander Kueng.
 
US Senator, Amy Klobuchar made the announcement in a tweet. 
 

 
The official announcement is expected to be made soon, more than a week after Floyd was killed while in police custody in Minneapolis, sparking nationwide protests against police violence against black citizens.
 
Derek Chauvin, who had his knee pressed into Floyd's neck for nearly nine minutes, had previously been charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. His colleagues, Thomas Lane and J.A. Keung, who helped restrain Floyd, and the fourth officer, Tou Thao, who stood near them, were not initially charged.
 
In an additional video which was captured from the other side of the Minneapolis police vehicle where the arrest occurred, Chauvin and two other white officers were filmed kneeling on Floyd while another stood beside them. 
 
An independent autopsy ordered by George Floyd's family revealed that he was murdered by Minneapolis cop Derek Chauvin after knee on his neck 'caused asphyxia that led to lack of blood flow to the brain.'

Full autopsy report reveals George Floyd tested positive for Coronavirus







A 20-page autopsy report released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office has revealed that George Floyd who died after some Minneapolis police officers knelt on his neck, tested positive for Coronavirus in April. 
 
The autopsy report came with the family’s permission and it was released after the coroner’s office released summary findings which affirmed that Floyd had a heart attack while being restrained by officers. George Floyd's death has now been classified as a homicide.
 
TMZ reported that the Coroner said;
 

"Positivity for 2019-nCoV can persist for weeks after the onset and resolution of clinical disease, the autopsy result most likely reflects asymptomatic but persistent PCR positivity from previous infection." 

 
This meant the deceased was likely walking around without issues or active symptoms, but the virus was still in his body. The final report from Hennepin on Wednesday says Floyd had “no injuries of anterior muscles of neck or laryngeal structures.”
 
Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison on Wednesday June 3, upgraded charges against Chauvin to 2nd-degree murder and also charged the three other officers on the scene with aiding and abetting.
 
Floyd family attorney, Ben Crump had earlier decried the official autopsy as described in the original complaint against Chauvin, for ruling out asphyxia. An autopsy commissioned by the Floyd family concluded that he died of asphyxiation due to neck and back compression.

4 Minneapolis officers now charged in George Floyd’s death; Mugshots released

The mugshots of all the officers involved in the death of an African American, George Floyd, have been released.

Their mugshots were released after Senator Amy Klobuchar disclosed that Minnesota Attorney General, Keith Ellison is increasing charges against former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin to second-degree murder. 

The Star Tribune, citing multiple unnamed law enforcement sources, said Derek Chauvin who had his knee pressed into Floyd’s neck for nearly nine minutes, would face the more serious charge in the death of George Floyd. 


Sen. Amy also said that the three other officers at the scene Thomas Lane, J. Kueng, and Tou Thao are also going to be charged for their involvement in the incident following calls for their arrest.

The Star Tribune reported that the three officers are to be charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder. 

The new charges will be officially announced by Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison. 

Benjamin Crump, an attorney for Floyd’s family, called it “a bittersweet moment” and “a significant step forward on the road to justice.” Crump said Elison had told the family he would continue his investigation into Floyd’s death and upgrade the charge to first-degree murder if warranted.

Maurice Lester Hall, the longtime friend of George Floyd who was in his car when he was stopped by police and brutally killed, has now revealed that Floyd did not resist the police when they came to arrest him, before he was killed while in police custody. 
 

 
Hall and Floyd are both from Houston and became friends in Minneapolis through a pastor. 
Hall, 42, was in the passenger seat of George Floyd's car when his friend was detained by police and killed in Minneapolis on May 25.
 

 
After George's death, Hall fled Minnesota for Houston, where he was tracked down by police and is now being interviewed by a Minnesota state investigator for hours as a key witness into the probe of the conduct of the four police officers who arrested Floyd.
 

 
Hall who saw as the white police officer Derek Chauvin pressed his knee behind Floyd's neck for nearly nine minutes as he pleaded 'I can't breathe', before Floyd gave up the ghost, said; 

'He was, from the beginning, trying in his humblest form to show he was not resisting in no form or way,' Hall said.
'I could hear him pleading, "Please, officer, what’s all this for?"' he said Wednesday night to the New York Times.

Hall says he and Floyd spent part of his last day together May 25 before they were cornered by police on suspicion of using a fake $20 bill at a deli.

'I’m going to always remember seeing the fear in Floyd’s face because he’s such a king. That’s what sticks with me, seeing a grown man cry, before seeing a grown man die,' he added.

A judge has set bail at $750,000 each for the three other Minneapolis ex-officers charged with aiding and abetting in the killing of George Floyd.
 
The officers, Tou Thao, Thomas Lane, and J. Alexander Kueng made their first appearances in Hennepin County District Court as friends, relatives, and celebrities gathered for George Floyd memorial service in Minneapolis.

The Minneapolis Police Department fired them last week, along with Derek Chauvin, who is charged with second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in Floyd’s May 25 death.

The white police officer was filmed in a viral video pinning down Floyd and pressing his knee into his neck, ignoring the African American man’s pleas that he can’t breathe, until he stopped moving.

Attorney Earl Gray, representing Lane argued for lower bail and told the court that Chauvin was the training officer for Lane and Kueng, who had been on the job just four and three days respectively.

“What was my client supposed to do but follow what his training officer said? Is that aiding and abetting a crime?” Gray asked.

Attorneys for Kueng and Thao did not address the merits of the charges in court and told reporters afterward that they declined to comment on the case for now out of respect for Floyd’s family on the day of his first memorial service.
 
Judge Paul Scoggin set their next court dates for June 29.

If convicted, Chauvin faces a maximum of 40 years in prison on the murder count and 10 years for manslaughter. Under Minnesota law, aiding and abetting second-degree murder is equivalent to a second-degree murder charge, meaning Thao, Lane, and Kueng face the same potential penalties as Chauvin if convicted.

Bail of Derek Chauvin, officer charged with murder in George Floyd case increases from $500k to $1.25 Million







The bail of Derek Chauvin, the white police officer charged with murder in the killing of George Floyd two weeks ago, has been increased from $500,000 to $1.25 million on Monday afternoon.
 
Chauvin, a 19-year veteran of the police force has been behind bars since he was arrested on May 29 following Floyd's death that has sparked protests of racial inequality all over the world.

Chauvin faces charges of second-degree manslaughter and second-degree murder, and participated in his initial court hearing at the heavily fortified Hennepin County courthouse on a video feed from jail.

Mr. Chauvin, who placed his knee on the neck of Mr. Floyd for nearly nine minutes in a video showing Floyd's killing could face up to 40 years in prison. and is referred to as the most hated man in the world.

The bail set for Mr. Chauvin is higher than the bail of at least $750,000 given last week to the other three rookie officers accused of aiding and abetting in Mr. Floyd’s death. All four men were fired the day after Mr. Floyd died.
 
                 
 
On that evening of May 25, Mr. Floyd, sitting in a nearby car, stiffened when the officers tried to put him in the back of their police car after getting a call from a nearby store alleging Floyd had used a counterfeit $20 bill.
Floyd fell to the ground, according to an arrest affidavit. Then Chauvin knelt on Floyd's neck.

Mr. Floyd struggled as the rookie officers held Mr. Floyd’s back and legs, and began saying he could not breathe, the affidavit says.

Chauvin held his left knee on Mr. Floyd’s neck for over nine minutes, while Mr. Floyd still said “I can’t breathe” and “Mama” and then, after a time, stopped talking as he became unconscious. By the time he was taken to hospital he was pronounced dead.

Sadiq Khan calls for all London slave merchant landmarks to be removed as Black Lives Matter protesters plan to tear down more statues







London Mayor, Sadiq Khan has called for the removal of all slave trader statues in the capital after Black Lives Matter protesters pulled down the statue of slave merchant Edward Colston in Bristol and hurled it in the city's harbour.
 
Khan said he hopes the statues of slave trader's are removed and he promised to personally "review and improve" the diversity of the capital's landmarks.
 

 
This comes as Black Lives Matter protesters targeted the destruction of at least 30 monuments across the UK starting with one of Cecil Rhodes in Oxford tonight. 
 
Thousands have planned to gather for a protest today at 5pm during which they plan to remove a statue of British imperialist Cecil Rhodes outside Oriel College in Oxford.
 

 
Some began gathering at lunchtime holding placards reading: "Rhodes you're next" and "Rhodes must fall" as 26 Oxford City councillors signed a letter saying Rhodes' statue should go because it is "incompatible" with the city's "commitment to anti-racism."
 

 
The Mayor of London has launched his own Commission for Diversity in the Public Realm after Black Lives Matter protesters pulled down the monument to Edward Colston in Bristol.
 
Mayor Khan today said he wouldn't "pre-empt" the commission's findings on the suitability of London's street names, murals, statues and memorials, but admitted he would like any statues of slave traders removed in London and to build more statues of "people of colour, black people, women, those from the LGBT community."
 
However, he said he did not think statues such as that of Sir Winston Churchill's in Parliament Square should be included in the review it was tagged with "racist" on Sunday. He said Londoners needed to be educated about famous figures "warts and all" and that "nobody was perfect", including the likes of Churchill, Gandhi and Malcolm X. 
 
Monuments that could be under threat in London would include statues of Robert Milligan in Docklands, William Beckford at London's Guildhall, John Cass at London's Metropolitan University and one Thomas Guy, which stands in the courtyard at Guy's Hospital. 
 
Campaigners are also targeting the Edinburgh statue of Henry Dundas, who delayed the abolition of slavery in Scotland.

Senior Democratic lawmakers, including Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (N.Y.), knelt during a moment of silence shortly before unveiling a legislative package of police reforms Monday.

About two dozen lawmakers knelt for eight minutes and 46 seconds as a tribute to George Floyd, the unarmed African American man who died after a now-former Minneapolis police officer pinned his knee on Floyd's neck during an arrest for that length of time.

Lawmakers, wearing African kente cloth scarves, knelt in the Capitol Visitor Center before holding a press conference to unveil their legislation in response to almost two weeks of nationwide protests over police brutality toward African Americans.


"We are here to honor George Floyd," Pelosi said before the moment of silence began.

After almost nine minutes, Pelosi and the other lawmakers stood back up, though the Speaker needed the help of an aide due to her tall stilettos.

"You see how long it was to have that knee on his neck," Pelosi said afterward.

Senate Democrats held a similar moment of silence last week.

"To every one of us, it was excruciating. It seemed an unbearably long amount of time. It felt so painful to get even an inkling of how this man and so many black Americans have suffered for so long," Schumer said before Monday's moment of silence.

Democrats' sweeping legislative package includes several proposals from members of the Congressional Black Caucus, including a ban on the use of chokeholds and establishing a national database to track police misconduct.

A former colleague claims George Floyd and "killer" cop Derek Chauvin knew each other and clashed while working at a nightclub together.
 
David Pinney, who worked with both men at El Nuevo Rodeo, told CBS News George Floyd and Derek Chauvin clashed while working security at the Minneapolis venue.
 

 
He said: "They bumped heads.
 
"It has a lot to do with Derek being extremely aggressive within the club with some of the patrons, which was an issue."
 
Floyd worked as a security guard inside the club while Chauvin sat in his patrol car, while off-duty, outside the venue, it has been reported.
 
Maya Santamaria, the club's former owner, previously said the pair had worked on the same nights, but she was unsure if the two knew each other.
 
Santamarina told CBS News she thinks Chauvin "was afraid and intimidated" by black people.
 
She said Chauvin, who worked for her for 17 years, often lost his temper with patrons and would pepper spray them "even if I felt it was unwarranted."
 
Last month, she told KSTP-TV that he "had a real short fuse and he seemed afraid.”
 
"When there was an altercation he always resorted to pulling out his mace and pepper-spraying everybody right away, even if I felt it was unwarranted," Santamaria added.
 
Derek Chauvin has been charged with second-degree murder after he knelt on George Floyd's neck during an arrest on May 25 till he died.
 
Video from the incident showed Floyd saying "I can't breathe" multiple times but Chauvin did not move his knee.
 
Floyd's death has sparked protests and unrest across the country as well as the world.

Thomas Lane, one of the ex-Minneapolis police officers charged in George Floyd’s death, has been released after posting $750k bond







Thomas Lane, one of the four Minneapolis police officers involved in the death of George Floyd, has been released from jail after posting bond.
 
Lane, 37, who had been held on $750,000 conditional bail, was freed from the Hennepin County jail at 5:08 p.m. Wednesday, according to jail records.
 
His family members had set up a fundraising page for the ex-cop earlier this week, asking the public for donations for his 'defense fund' they set at $1 million.
 
Lane's lawyer, Earl Gray, also confirmed he was released on Wednesday afternoon after posting bail. 
 
'Now we can watch what happens next from outside,' Gray told the Tribune. 'We will bring a motion to dismiss and hopefully it will be granted.'
 
Thomas Lane is one of three officers charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter in connection with the death of Floyd.
 

 
He will be monitored during his release and must not take part in any law enforcement activities.
 
The fourth officer, Derek Chauvin, who was caught on camera pinning Floyd down with his knee while he cried out, "I can't breathe," is charged with second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter, with his bail set at $1.25 million.
 
The two others, Tou Thao and J Alexander Kueng, who face the same charges as Lane, are still being detained on $750,000 cash bonds.
