'White people should say sorry for the way we have treated black people for 400 years - Pep Guardiola speaks out against racism









Manchester City football club manager, Pep Guardiola has spoken out on the anti-racism protests being championed all over the world by Black Lives Matter protesters following the police killing of Black American George Floyd last month.

 

Speaking after Manchester City beat Arsenal in the club's first game since the Coronavirus pandemic halted global football, Guardiola admitted being "ashamed of what white people have done to black people".

 

Premier league clubs Sheffield United and Aston Villa took a stand against racism when they kicked off the midweek action, with all players from both sides wearing jerseys displaying "Black Lives Matter" across the back instead of their own names.

 

Sheffield United and Aston Villa took a knee on the pitch just before kick-off in a show of solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement before Manchester City and Arsenal players joined with the same gesture by wearing kits with the BLM logo printed over the Premier League badge.

 

According to Guardiola he wants change when it comes to racism all over the world  .

 

He said: "White people should say sorry for the way we have treated black people for 400 years.

"We should send a thousand million messages for the black people. I'm embarrassed and ashamed of what the white people have done for the black people.

"How people can think they are different? All the gestures are good and positive. Everything we can do to make it conscious, it is not acceptable.

"We have to do a lot of things for the black people which we have not done so far."

 

Man. City striker Raheem Sterling, who recently launched his own anti-racism social media campaign feels English football is finally "going in the right direction" when it comes to tackling racism.

He told Sky Sports : "I see it as a massive step for the Premier League to allow something like that to happen and it shows we're going in the right direction.

"Little by little we’re seeing change. It was natural, it was organic. We saw the teams do it in the earlier kick-off and thought it was something we had to do as well."

Former Chelsea captain, John Terry, has revealed how signing for Chelsea as a young 14 year old boy nearly tore his family apart.
 
Terry, now working as an assistant coach at Aston Villa joined the Blues at age 14, after starting his career as a junior with West Ham.
 
Terry spent 19 seasons with Chelsea while making 717 appearances across all competitions, cementing his position as a club legend during his stay and winning lots of titles.
 
He has now admitted that his father tried his best so he could sign for Manchester United as be didn't want him to sign for Chelsea. According to Terry, his father was so mad at his choice that he refused joining him at his official signing.
 

 
“I had the option between Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United and to be fair all of them went above and beyond,” Terry told the Footballer’s Guide to Football podcast. 

“The moment I walked into Chelsea, it just felt right. I know that’s going to sound really bizarre.

“Again, my dad never wanted me to sign for Chelsea. Actually, on the pitch of me signing my schoolboy form at the club, my dad refused to go on the pitch with me.

"I’m in the tunnel, the players are coming off the pitch and I’m waiting in the tunnel, Glenn Hoddle goes past and my dad’s going, ‘You’re not signing for this football club, we should sign for Manchester United’.


“Again, me being me at the time I’m going, ‘I’m 100 per cent I’m signing here, if you don’t come out with me I’m going out to sign’. You needed a parent, so my mum said she would come and sign it with me, my dad’s going mad at my mum, ‘No you wont’.


“There’s a picture of my mum and Graham Rix signing my contract, but my dad refused and absolutely kicked off that night. Again, me being the character I was, I knew Chelsea was right for me.

“One night that was probably supposed to be one of the best nights of my life turned out to be a tough one for a young 14-year-old to be honest.

“I just knew and loved Chelsea from the moment I walked in and never looked back, I still love the club and look out for every result now."

Premier League confirms one positive Coronavirus test in latest phase of mass testing









The Premier League has confirmed one positive Coronavirus test in the latest phase of mass testing.
 
A total of 1,541 tests were carried out in the ninth round of testing in the Premier League, on Monday and Tuesday.
 
The player or club staff member who tested positive will now be required to self-isolate for a period of seven days, meaning the individual will miss the latest round of matches in the Premier League taking place from Friday.
 
A Premier League statement read: 'The Premier League can today confirm that on Monday 15 June and Tuesday 16 June, 1,541 players, and club staff were tested for COVID-19. Of these, one person has tested positive.
 
The Premier League is providing this aggregated information for the purposes of competition integrity and transparency. No specific details as to clubs or individuals will be provided by the League and results will be made public after each round of testing.'

Round 1: 17-18 May - 748 tested, with six testing positive from three clubs.
Round 2: 19-22 May - 996 tested, with two testing positive from two clubs.

Retired footballer, Rio Ferdinand and his wife Kate have announced they are expecting their first together. 
 
The former TOWIE star, 29, and ex-Manchester United defender, 41, revealed the news on social media on Thursday evening.
 
Kate shared a sweet family video via Instagram and then wrote: "The crazy house is about to get a little bit crazier.. every time I watch this it makes me cry, the best reaction Baby Ferdy we are all so excited to meet you."
 
In the video, the blonde beauty and Rio could be seen with his children - - Lorenz, 13, Tate, 11, and Tia, nine going through baby pictures before she announced: "I am pregnant!" to her excited stepchildren who all started cheering and jumping about.
 
The reality star then cradled her growing baby bump and added: 'Have you not noticed?'
 

 
Rio also posted the same footage onto his page and wrote: "We got our wish, another Ferdinand en route!!
 
This will be Kate's first child and fourth for Rio. He welcomed his three other children with his first wife, Rebecca, who passed away in 2015 after a short battle with breast cancer.
 
Rio and Kate started their relationship in 2017 and tied the knot in September 2019 with a romantic ceremony in Turkey.

Man Utd star Paul Pogba’s Rolls-Royce seized by police for having French number plate (photos)







Manchester United star, Paul Pogba's Rolls-Royce has been seized by police after he was pulled over for driving the exotic car with a French number plate.
 
Police officers caught Pogba driving his Wraith Black Badge on the M56 and stopped him when he exited near Manchester Airport on Thursday according to The Sun UK.

The police then seized the special edition car on the A4538 near Hale, Cheshire while Pogba was loaded into the back of the patrol car.
 


 
According to UK laws, Cars from abroad that have been in Britain for more than six months in a year must be registered with the DVLA and fitted with UK plates except if the owner is  a UK resident then they must register their car within two weeks of importing it.
 
Pogba, 27, will have to pay £150 to get his car back within seven days or will have to pay £20 extra for every day it’s held in police custody.
 
A witness told The Sun: “We noticed the car going past us on the motorway because it really stands out, but we had no idea who was in it.

“It was already indicating off when the police pulled in behind it and then put the blue lights on after they were safely off the motorway.

“We couldn’t believe it when we saw the driver was Paul Pogba. It looked like he did everything that was asked.

“We wondered what it was all about, he didn’t look like he was speeding or anything.”

EPL: Lampard ready to sell Kante, six others as Chelsea eye Havertz deal

Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard, would be willing to sell N’Golo Kante, in order to raise money to complete other deals, the UK Times reports.

The Blues have already sealed moves for Hakim Ziyech from Ajax and Timo Werner from RB Leipzig ahead of next season.

However, Lampard would have to sacrifice some members of his current squad, if he wants to bring in more new faces.

Kante arrived at Stamford Bridge in 2016 from Leicester City and has become of the key players at the club.

However, his future is now in doubt, with Chelsea very keen on signing Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen.

Barcelona legend, Iniesta, now playing in Japan, was the hero that night in Johannesburg as he struck four minutes from the end of extra-time to secure Spain's World Cup success.
 

 
Iniesta's hometown of Albacete have now honoured their most famous son with a naked statue showing a mirror image of his position as he struck the winner that night.
 
Locals from Albacete were to celebrate the unveiling of the statue on July 10 but Coronavirus restrictions mean it'll be held next year.

Ex-Eagles midfielder, Garba Lawal, has disagreed with French club Lille over the €60m price tag placed on Victor Osimhen ahead of a possible transfer in the summer.

Osimhen, one of the hottest transfer prospects, is almost certain that he won’t stay at Lille following his impressive performance in the French Ligue 1 last season.

Despite Les Dogues dropping their asking price for the Nigeria international from an initial €90m to €60m, Lawal believes that the talented forward is overpriced.

“Lille are asking for €60m because they saw the calibre of clubs asking to sign Osimhen,” Lawal told The PUNCH.

“They wouldn’t have asked for such amount if it was an average team that was willing to sign him because there is no way they could afford it.

“Take for instance, if it was Aston Villa that was looking for him, would they have placed the €60m price tag on him?

“Lille are very smart, they saw that big clubs in Europe are the ones looking to sign Osimhen and they believe that they can make money from the deal. They see it as their chance to cash in on him, considering the amount they signed him from Charleroi.

“For a player that they signed for €12m and he spent just a season and they are asking for €60m, I think it’s crazy.

“I think a fee within the region of €30m would be nice and allow the young man to move on with his career. We want to see him make that big move, which is good for him as a player.”

Neymar ordered to pay Barcelona £6m in court settlement after he demanded the club pay him £39m bonus







PSG football star, Neymar, has been ordered by a court to pay former club Barcelona £6million following a court settlement hearing - after he demanded in a lawsuit that the club pay him £39m in unpaid bonuses.
 

Neymar joined Barcelona from Brazilian side Santos in 2013, joining PSG four years later in a mammoth money spinning deal.
 
Neymar, 28, took Barcelona to court hoping to get money he believed Barca owed him after signing for the Spanish club in 2013 but surprisingly Neymar has been ordered to pay Barcelona .
 

Barcelona have now reacted to the ruling saying the club remains prepared if Neymar appeals the ruling.

 
In a statement, a Barcelona spokesperson said: "FC Barcelona expresses its satisfaction with the verdict announced today by Social Court 15 in Barcelona in relation to the lawsuit involving FC Barcelona and the player Neymar Jr regarding the amount of the signing bonus in the final renewal of the player’s contract.


"The ruling has fully dismissed the player’s claim for payment of 43.6 million euros.


"[It has also] accepted a large part of the defence presented by FC Barcelona, as a result of which the player must return 6.7 million euros to the club.


"Since the player’s representative is entitled to appeal this decision, the club shall continue to fervently defend its legitimate interests."

Tottenham and Manchester United played out a 1-1 draw on Friday night in a behind closed doors match due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
 

Tottenham's January signing, Steven Bergwijn, opened the scoring for Jose Mourinho's side against Manchester United with a well-taken strike after a counterattack that left Harry Maguire clueless as he failed to track down, before United star boy Bruno Fernandes levelled from the penalty spot towards the end of the match.
 

 
Tottenham's starting line-up included  Lloris, Aurier, Dier, Sanchez, Davies; Sissoko, Winks, Bergwijn, Lamela, Son; Kane while Man United benched Paul Pogba and started with De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; Fred, McTominay, Fernandes; Martial, James, Rashford. Nigerian striker Ighalo was left on the bench alongside Matic and Lingard.

 
Tottenham held on towards the end despite pressure heaped on their defence but a goal from Fernandes' penalty after Pogba was tripped on the byline ten minutes from the end of the match, ensured the match ended in a draw.

He told Sky Sports: “”We had a good first half, but we let them have too much pressure in the second half.

Star player, Bruno Fernandes was asked about his role playing with Paul Pogba and whether it impacts his game.


He replied: “No, it doesn't change nothing. As a team we need to look for the Champions League. We are one point closer but they [Chelsea] need to play.


“I like the pressure so maybe with the crowd it [the penalty] will be better but maybe next time I shoot another one.

 
On the second spot kick that was overturned, Fernandes added: “I kick the ball and after I kick the ball I found his foot. It doesn't matter, VAR is here to help. If they think it is not a penalty, then we need to accept and nothing more.”


“I think we did very well, was a difficult game. We start good with our ideas but they score on the counter. We are all the time in the game. We score we have a lot of chances to score. It is a good result but we are not happy with it.


“Maybe in the second half we create more chances than the first half. The game was good, after a long stop I think we did very well.


“We were training hard in the past weeks, I was in a group with Paul, so to find a connection was easier. But I find a good connection with everyone but the most important is the same and I think Paul thinks the same. It doesn't matter who scores.”

Lille coach, Christophe Galtier confirms Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen will leave the club this summer









Lille manager, Christophe Galtier has announced that Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen will be leaving the club this summer.
 
The 21-year-old youngster has been in top form for the club, scoring 13 goals in 25 appearances as Lille finished the 2019/20 season in fourth place. 
 
Back in May, Lille owner Gerard Lopez revealed that 'multiple offers' have been made for the Nigerian star. Coach Galtier has now confirmed that Arsenal target Osimhen and one of his teammates, Gabriel will leave the club. 
 
Speaking at a press conference, the Lille manager said: 'Regarding Victor and Gabriel, yes, I've known for a long time that they're leaving.'
 
'They're working hard with us in the meantime. We're working on the players who are currently here and those likely to replace them.
 
'Of course, the club is working to replace him [Osimhen].'
 
Previously, Lille president Gerard Lopez indicated that he hopes to raise as much as €80 million (£72.5m/$90m) from the sale of Osimhen, matching the deal that took Nicolas Pepe to Arsenal last season.
 
Osimhen, who only signed for the Ligue 1 club last year from VfL Wolfsburg, after playing on loan at Belgian side Charleroi is currently one of the most sought-after young attackers in Europe.

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane said he is "sick to death" of David de Gea - and that the goalkeeper and captain Harry Maguire should be made to get a taxi back from Tottenham.[/b]

Keane, who won seven Premier League titles with United, ranted at half-time after Steven Bergwijn ran past Maguire and fired through De Gea to score.

"I wouldn't even let them on the bus after the match," he told Sky Sports.

"Get a taxi back to Manchester. They should hang their heads in shame."

Bergwijn easily beat England international Maguire for pace, and De Gea could not hold his powerful shot as Jose Mourinho's side took a half-time lead over his former club in Friday's Premier League match, which ended 1-1.

De Gea has made the joint-highest number of errors leading to a goal of any goalkeeper in the Premier League since August 2018 - seven - though Bergwijn's goal was not recorded as one.

Maguire, who United signed from Leicester for £80m last August, has not officially made an error leading to a goal this season.

"I'm shocked. I'm shocked at that goal," Keane said at the interval.

"I've watched a lot of football over the years and to give away that goal... I'm fuming.

"I can't believe that's Manchester United. Luke Shaw, heading the ball up in the air and then running forward... I am staggered at Maguire, how an international player can just get done like that - and I am sick to death of this goalkeeper.

"I would be fining him [De Gea] at half-time, there is no getting away from that. I would be swinging punches at that guy. That is a standard save for an established international goalkeeper.

When asked about Keane's comments, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replied: "Roy was a fantastic midfielder, a good friend of mine. I am not sure he would have stopped it."

'United have to make a goalkeeping decision'
Bruno Fernandes' second-half penalty earned United a point and reduced Keane's rage to a simmer.

"I'd maybe let them on the bus but make them sit down at the back," he said.

De Gea, 29, signed a new contract to stay with the club until 2023 last September but former Middlesbrough, Fulham, Chelsea and Leicester goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer believes his position could be under threat.

Dean Henderson, 23, has been outstanding on loan at Sheffield United for the past two seasons.

"Over the past 18 months David de Gea has made a considerable amount of mistakes and that's not expected from a keeper at that level," Schwarzer told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"The demand for success is so high, and his standards haven't been at that level for some time.

"For a top, world-class keeper, the maximum number of mistakes leading to a goal shouldn't be more than two a season and he's clearly made more than that.

"It will come to a head, when you've got Dean Henderson playing so well at Sheffield United and he's made it clear he won't sit on the bench.

"Manchester United are going to make a decision, is Henderson good enough to take the number one shirt at United?

EPL: Mourinho reveals Man Utd’s weakness after 1-1 draw with Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur boss, Jose Mourinho, has revealed that he allowed Manchester United have the ball during their 1-1 draw on Friday because they are not very good with build-up play.


Mourinho’s men took the lead in the first half through Steven Bergwijn’s powerful effort.

However, United ensured the points were shared after Bruno Fernandes converted a late penalty.


Mourinho, who managed the Old Trafford side for three years, admits he was wary of their threat with counter attacks and did not want to play into their hands.
“We analyse United [before the game] but I don’t think it’s for us to speak about them,’ Mourinho said after the match.


“I’ll just say that I think we gave them what I think they are not very good at, which was to given them the opportunity to have the ball and to play in organised attack.

EPL: Arteta gives update on Leno injury after 2-1 defeat at Brighton

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has said that the club will find out the extent of Bernd Leno’s injury in the coming days.


Leno went down holding his knee, following a collision with Neal Maupay in the first half of their 2-1 defeat at Brighton on Saturday.

The German goalkeeper was replaced by Emi Martinez, who went on to concede the two goals.


There are fears that Leno could now miss the rest of the season, but speaking to BT Sport after the game, Arteta said it was too early to tell how serious the injury is.

Brighton match-winner Neal Maupay said Arsenal got what they deserved after they criticised him for his role in a serious injury to keeper Bernd Leno.[/b]

Leno landed awkwardly after being nudged by Maupay and had to be carried off on a stretcher as Arsenal lost 2-1.

German Leno sat up as he was being carried off and pointed at Maupay, while Arsenal players surrounded the Brighton player at full-time.

Some of their players need to learn what is humility," said Maupay.

Arsenal's French midfielder Matteo Guendouzi had to be pulled away from Maupay by his team-mates after the final whistle as Brighton came from behind to win.

"One of them was talking the whole game and saying really bad things," added Maupay.

At half-time I went to the manager Mikel Arteta to apologise. I never meant to injure the keeper. I jumped for the ball. I apologise to the team and to him as well. I have been through a bad injury, it is hard.

"Arsenal players maybe need to learn humility sometimes. They were talking a lot. They got what they deserved.

"I just went to get the ball really. When he landed he twisted his knee. It is football, there is contact. I never meant to hurt him. I apologise again and wish him a speedy recovery."

This was Arsenal's second game back following the restart after losing 3-0 at Manchester City on Wednesday, when Switzerland midfielder Granit Xhaka and Spanish defender Pablo Mari were injured.

Gunners boss Arteta was also missing Brazilian defender David Luiz, who was sent off against City.

Leno was replaced by Emiliano Martinez with the game goalless. Nicolas Pepe fired the Gunners into the lead but Lewis Dunk equalised before Maupay's late winner in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

Speaking after the game, Arteta said Leno's injury "doesn't look good" but does not believe Maupay deliberately intended to injure the German keeper.

"I always believe players don't have intention to injure people and I am sure he did not intend to do that," added the Spaniard, whose side are eight points off a top-four spot with eight games left.

WWE star The Undertaker has announced his retirement after claiming he has "nothing left to accomplish" in the ring.

The 55-year-old made the announcement in the last episode of his documentary series 'The Last Ride'.

The Undertaker has been performing the ring for years having made his WWF debut in 1990.

He has gone on to win every championship and event possible while also having an incredible winning streak at Wrestlemania that only recently came to an end.

But the star claimed that: "I'm at a point, it's time this cowboy really rides away. There's nothing left for me to conquer or accomplish.

"The game has changed. It's time for new guys to come up. The time just seems right.

"This documentary has helped me discover that and opened my eyes to the bigger picture and not judge myself as harshly these last few years.

"I can do more good outside the ring than I can inside. I'm finally at a place where I can accept that."

Lampard said Pulisic was hungry during the encounter against the host, adding that the 21-year-old American international’s ability to always arrive in the box was a big thing.

Lampard’s men defeated Aston Villa at the Villa Park Stadium, thanks to two goals from Pulisic and Olivier Giroud in the second half.

Speaking on Pulisic’s performance against Aston Villa, Lampard was quoted by Goal as telling reporters after the game: “He was hungry.

“I know that, and I felt for him. He has trained well.


“The ability to arrive in the box is a big thing.
“It’s a difference between being a very good player on the flank and a top-class player.”


Pulisic will now hope to continue his impressive display for Chelsea when they host Manchester City in their next Premier League fixture on Thursday.

Real Madrid have gone top of LaLiga, following a 2-1 win over Real Soceidad on Sunday.

Los Blancos went into the game, knowing that victory will see them knock rivals Barcelona off top spot, after the Catalans could only draw 0-0 with Sevilla 24 hours before.

Sergio Ramos scored from the penalty spot, before being forced off with injury.

Zinedine Zidane’s men extended their lead at the Anoeta through the in-form Karim Benzema.


With seven minutes left, Mikel Merino pulled one back for the hosts, but Madrid held on for all three points.
Real Madrid and Barcelona both have 65 points after 30 fixtures, but the team from the capital are top on head-to-head.

LaLiga: Zidane reacts as Real Madrid beat Sociedad to knock Barcelona off top spot

Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane, has warned his players that they have not won anything, following a 2-1 win at Real Sociedad on Sunday.

Los Blancos took the lead through a Sergio Ramos penalty, before Karim Benzema made it 2-0.

Mikel Merino pulled one back for Sociedad late in the game, but Real held on for an important victory.
Zidane’s men are now level on 65 points with Barcelona, but sit in first place thanks to their head-to-head record.

“We haven’t won anything yet. It’s three wins and nine points, but we know it will be difficult until the end.

“We have to keep going, we’re in good form, the players are doing well physically and technically,” Zidane told the media after the game.

There are eight fixtures left in the Spanish top flight.
