The biggest African Movie/TV series award show, Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards 2020 (AMVCA) holds tonight in Lagos.

The AMVCA is one of the most anticipated events in Nigeria as actors, actresses, filmmakers, fashion influencers bring their fashion A-game to the red carpet. Moreso, there is suspense on who will win the Best actor and actress awards categories among other awards.

 AMVCA 2020 Full List Of Winners

It was an emotionally charged night full of entertainment, glamour and red carpet extravaganza as Africa’s biggest film and television stars gathered at the Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos for the seventh edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs).

Hosted by the duo of IK Osakioduwa and AMVCA newbie Amina Abdi Rabar, the event held on Saturday, March 14, and is organized by Africa Magic in association with MultiChoice. The 7th edition of the AMVCAs was also sponsored by Amstel Malta

The biggest winner of the night was Nigerian thriller ‘Living in Bondage’, which walked home with seven awards including Best Overall Movie and Best Director which went to Nollywood legend, Ramsey Nouah. Timini Egbuson won Best Actor in a Drama whilst Toyin Abraham won in the Best Actress in a Drama, both wins for their performances in the movie ‘Elevator Baby’. Meanwhile, The MultiChoice Academy award went to East Africa for the movie ‘Promises’.

One of the highlights of the night was a family affair as a cinematic father-son duo took home awards. The Industry Merit award was presented to veteran broadcaster, Peter Igho who is best known for his achievements with the Nigerian Television Authority where many of his produced works laid the foundation for the Nigerian film and television industry. Breakout Living in Bondage star, Swanky JKA won the 2020 Trailblazer award.

Another highlight was the performance by award-winning African music icon Innocent ‘2baba’ Idibia who performed a medley of his popular songs, whilst talented vocalists Mercy Aghedo, Adeniyi Timilehin Adeola, Ighwiyisi Jacobs also gave special renditions of songs nominated for the Best Soundtrack award.

Omashola's AMVCA 2020 outfit which was designed by celebrity stylist, Toyin Lawani, set social media ablaze.

Meanwhile, Omashola has given the reason behind his controversial AMVCA outfit - the fight against coronavirus!!!

Sharing pictures of his AMVCA outfit on his Instagram page, Omashola wrote:

The 2020 edition of the AMVCA held in Lagos last night and the organizers crowned BBNaija stars, Mercy Eke and Mike Edwards, as the best dressed male and female attendees.
 

Celebrity stylist, Toyin Lawani, is not pleased with the choice of the organisers and she took to her Instagram page to express herself. She wrote

Most of my looks didn’t make it to the Red carpet but all their Best Dressed are jokes ok lets even forget about my own dresses that nana lady and Demola looked nice as hell see everyone is entitled to their opinion like the rest of the world , but when tiannah talks it means she’s spoiling other people’s work , common give yourself and your village people sense.

'I have been self isolating''- Toke Makinwa says as Lagos government says everyone at the AMVCA might have been exposed to Coronavirus







Toke Makinwa, who hosted the red carpet at the March 14th AMVCA alongside Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, says she has been self isolating after the event.
 
She said this after the Lagos tate government asked everyone that attended the award ceremony to self-isolate as an attendee of the award ceremony has tested positive. She wrote

''I hope you and yours are keeping safe, thank you l for your messages and prayers, I worked at the #AMVCA, I have been off air and self isolating, making TikTok videos to entertain you, not sharing unverified information and just trying to keep my mind active.

My team members and I have been hydrating and staying healthy, exercising, washing our hands and monitoring ourselves. #Thistooshallpass #staysafeoutthere'' she wrote
