It was both devastating and unbelievable when news broke 41-year-old basketball phenom Kobe Bryant had died in a helicopter accident last Sunday. That his daughter Gigi was on board, along with seven others, made it even more tragic. NBA 2K MTgamers and programmers are honoring the basketball superstar in a truly touching way, one that was able to bring a genuine smile to my face after a day of feeling down.
First, 2K games dropped a banner into the game's home display. When you boot NBA 2K, you're greeted with an easy black and white picture of Bryant with"1978 - 2020" emblazoned below his name. The NBA2K Twitter account also shared a picture of Bryant.
Then, in the Neighborhood, the area where you and your avatar could play pick-up basketball matches, players amassed there donning Bryant's Lakers jersey and LA gear. Twitter consumer @beeniicole shared a movie of players clapping, walking around a court and throwing up signs.
As shared by Twitter user @shaitime2 players are also taking shot clock violations in games. Two jersey numbers were worn by bryant throughout his tenure. Professional NBA players also took 24-second long shot clock violations in the games that they played many of which were incredibly somber adventures that reporters and fans think should happen to be cancelled.
There were also eight other people that lost their lives in this tragedy, including his daughter, who had been well on her way into becoming a professional WNBA player. In his post-NBA life, Kobe was a winner of women's sports (like the US Women's National football team buy mt), a supporter of current NBA players, and an Oscar winner for Dear Basketball.It's nice to see video games used to disperse a few love that is unconditional.
