Quote:Buhari Warns Plateau Against Revenge, Violent Attacks
.
PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari on Monday expressed concern over the killing of 15 people by bandits in Plateau State.
He charged the military to stop the return of the ugly days of ethnic violence.
President Buhari condoled the families of the victims, the government and people of Plateau, assuring them that terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and associated crimes would be defeated.
The President, in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, in Abuja, said: “In Plateau State, gun men launched yet another bloody attack, killing innocent citizens.
“This shocking and sad incident should be condemned by all citizens. Revenge, hatred and violent attacks should have no place in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-religious society as we have in this country.”
President Buhari called on community and religious leaders to counsel the youth on the need for peaceful co-existence.
Plateau State Governor Simeon Lalong, in a statement by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Makut Macham, said he received news of the attack with shock and disbelief.
The statement reads: “Gov. Lalong has expressed fury over Sunday’s attack by yet to be identified gunmen on innocent people in Kwatas village, leading to deaths.
“Lalong described the attack as yet another attempt by criminals who do not mean well for the State to take it back to the dark days of insecurity that it has substantially overcome.
“The governor while commiserating with victims and families of those killed, directed security agencies to go after the perpetrators of this heinous crime and ensure their arrest and prosecution as the state will no longer tolerate the wanton loss of lives.”
