Supreme Court Judgement: PDP Says The Destiny Of Imo State Has Been Taken Away
#1
Quote:The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed shock over the judgement of the Supreme Court on the Imo state governorship election stressing that the destiny of the people of Imo state is being taken from the governor they chose.

The party in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said it is still surprised at the judgment, describing it as yet another very sad commentary on the nation’s democratic order.

The PDP questioned the judgement, wondering how a candidate, who came fourth in the election, suddenly got the nod from the apex court.

“The Party finds it difficult to understand how Senator Hope Uzodinma/APC, who came 4th in the March 9, 2019 governorship election, with just 96,458 votes, will suddenly, by the token of the judgment of the Supreme Court, defeats Gov Emeka Ihedioha/PDP that scored 276,404 votes.

“In fact, the PDP and indeed, most Nigerians are still at a loss as to understand the basis upon which the Supreme Court arrived at its decision.

“The party says it is lamentable that the destiny of the people of Imo state is being taken from the governor they chose and voted for and handed over to individuals and a political party that do not have their blessing and mandate and which they rejected at the election.”

It added that the stability already achieved by the Ihedioha-led government will now be jeopardized.

“The people of Imo state are now confronted with the challenge of having a government that they cannot identify with and which cannot connect with them, having not emanated from them.

“Moreover, all the gains, including the development and stability already achieved by the people-based government, under Governor Emeka Ihedioha/PDP administration in the state are now heavily jeopardized.”

The party asked its stakeholders in the state to remain united and calm, and await further instruction from the national leadership on the development.

Supreme Court Judgement: [/Fr Oluma John Reactsb]

Popular Abuja based catholic priest, Reverend Fr. Oluoma Chinenye John, who is known for his exemplary and humane approach on the teachings of the gospel on various human activities and religious obligation has written a piece on his Facebook page reacting to the verdict of the Supreme Court, Mbaka’s prophecy and perceptions from both sides of the divide.

Quote:[b]THE OPIUM AND THE PEOPLE

Opium is a drug used to numb pain and help the patients sleep. The opium is like an anaesthetic. Anaesthetics are not curative, their function is to sedate a patient as he undergoes what could have been an unbearably painful treatment. Any patient given anaesthetics without curative procedures will soon become worse.

"Religion is the opium of the people" is a famous statement of Karl Marx. This is true, but relative. In other words, religion was not meant to be an opiate: a drug that numbs your pain but never treats it. Religion was meant to facilitate your relationship with your creator and help you deal positively with the supernatural dimension of reality. Don't make it an opium because you become an addict if you do. You know what happens to addicts: the more of the substance they take the worse they become until they become destroyed completely.

Every addiction is a convenient flight from a reality, a substitution of an uncomfortable truth with a convenient falsehood. Don't let religion become an opium. An opium makes your FEELING BRAIN take absolute control with no regards to your THINKING BRAIN. It makes what you feel the reality, and feelings are not always accurate.

When you hear a rousing sermon from a man of God asking you to give all your January earnings as first fruit so that your year will be prosperous, it's your FEELING BRAIN that will be activated spontaneously and jump into the driving seat.

There is no stats to establish that 'first fruiters' have better financial success in the year than others. Moreover God is not babalawo that demands things before the client gets help.

Therefore, THINK. If you suspend the robust use of your THINKING BRAIN, religion becomes your opium, it makes you FEEL VERY GOOD but not good, it makes you FEEL RICH but you ain't rich, it makes you FEEL like your destiny is in a ministry but it ain't, it makes you FEEL like you are so special that your case is different from everyone's but you ain't, it makes you run away from confronting the harsh realities of life frontally.

The Supreme Court has sacked Emeka Ihedioha as governor of Imo state and ordered the swearing in of Hope Uzodinma. Some people are already blaming a certain priest while some are praising him depending on what camp they belong. That happens when you look at the issue from religious prism, which should't. If the judgement of the Supreme Court is wrong and you accept it because of a certain 'prophecy', religion has become your opium and you are stuck in a rot. If the judgement is true but you reject it claiming that it was because of a certain 'prophecy' you are also high on the opiate of religion. Analyze the case from its pure legal, political and electoral angles and be informed.

The little I know is that having the highest number of votes doesn't necessarily win you an election, it takes more than that. I also know that the Nigerian judiciary is very funny, sometimes it panders to partisan politics as against jurisprudence. In Nigeria the judiciary falls victim of willing and unwilling manipulation by the political class.

Now if we allow religion to distract us from these sad realities, we will not confront them frontally and call for the neccesary changes. We have electoral bills waiting for presidential assent so that our elections will be better, we have issues of fiscal federalism, generation and distribution of resources, security etc that need radical attention, but religion seem to numb people from the pains these things inflict on us. Don't let your religion be your opium, think it through, God gave us brain and that's one thing that has stood human beings above other animals.

Look at the electricity that your life depends on, it didn't come out from 21 days fasting and prayer, it didn't come from first fruits and tithe( as good as these are), it came from THINKING BRAIN. The car you drive, the phones you use, imagine your life now without phone, internet, car, fans etc, these things didn't come by 'prophecy', they came from THINKING BRAINS, God blessed us with them through people who used their THINKING BRAIN. Such people did not make their religion an opium, you too shouldn't.

Let me come and be going

Ihedioha will bounce back - Atiku reacts to Supreme Court loss

Atiku Abubakar, the People's Democratic Party Presidential candidate in the 2019 election has expressed hope of Emeka Ihedioha bouncing back from the Supreme Court judgement that sacked him as Governor of Imo State and declared Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner of the 2019 governorship election.

Atiku who admitted that the Supreme Court Judgement is final, stated that “the rule of law must guide our paths even if logic sheds light on a different path".

He also averred that he stands with the PDP in both the good and bad times as they must continue to be the object of hope that the Nigerian people have for their escape from the ''prevailing despotism and despair that has gripped almost every aspect of our national life.''

Atiku's statement reads;

Quote:With regards to the judgment of the Supreme Court, which nullified the election of the candidate of the @OfficialPDPNig @EmekaIhedioha, as Governor of the state of Imo, I can only say that since the Supreme Court is final, we must accept its judgment.
However unexpected and unpalatable it may be. The Rule of law must guide our paths even if logic sheds light on a different path. Let me state unequivocally that I solidarize with@EmekaIhedioha, a man I know to be a great leader of men and resources.
In the fullness of time, I am convinced that he will overcome this setback and emerge stronger. I also stand fully with the Peoples Democratic Party. In good and bad times, we must continue to be the object of hope that the Nigerian people have for their escape from the prevailing despotism and despair that has gripped almost every aspect of our national life.
We provided genuine democracy for this nation once before, and I believe it is our destiny to democratically restore what has been lost due to the encroachment of anti-democratic agents. Philosophers have said that tough times never last, but that tough people do. I urge the people of Imo and the entirety of the Nigerian people not to give in to despair.

This nation has gone through despotic times before, and we have survived them and thrived. I am very confident that this history will repeat itself. My greatest desire, and one I hope to see again in my lifetime, is that Nigeria will fulfil its potential as the land of Unity and Faith, Peace and Progress.

These four ideals have been missing from our borders for a while, and all freedom-loving Nigerians ought to henceforth work together to bring them back. So help us God.

PDP To Protest Over Supreme Court Judgment In Imo

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Uche Secondus, on Friday proposed that PDP National Executive Committee members embark on a protest against the judgement of the Supreme Court which sacked the PDP Imo State governorship candidate, Chief Emeka Ihedioha, as the duly elected governor of Imo State.

Speaking during the ongoing 87th emergency PDP NEC in Abuja, Secondus said the proposed protest was to impress it on Nigerians that injustice had been done to the party.

He stated that the mandate given to the party by Imo electorates had been snatched from the party.

According to him, the declaration of the Imo State candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Hope Uzodinma, as the Imo State Governor is a miscarriage of Justice.

He said though the ultimate justice will come from God Almighty, the aggrieved PDP leaders must speak out against injustice as their silence could be taken for consent to the alleged injustice.

The Chairman, PDP Board of Trustees, Senator Walid Jubrin, said he dressed as a warrior in Igbo attire to depict that Nigeria is at ‘war.’

According to him, the alleged injustice was not only done to PDP but the entire Nigerians.

He stated that the party had not recovered from the alleged injustice.

He said, “Nigeria is getting to an end if we continue with this way.”

Also, the 2019 PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, said the PDP and the G34 fought and brought democracy to Nigeria.

He said, “Our party governed very well from 1999 to 2015. As true democrats, we handed over party to the ruling party, hoping that it will deepen democracy, alas we have been disappointed.”

Atiku called for the constitution of a committee to review what happened at the last election and make necessary recommendations.

He said the roles of the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies should not be taken for granted.

According to him, taking them for granted will be the end of the struggles of the founding fathers of the party.

“It is our duty to reincarnate the struggles they made that brought the democracy that APC is enjoying,” Atiku submitted.

I pity those celebrating Uzodinma’s victory at Supreme Court – Ihedioha

Emeka Ihedioha has revealed that he is still in shock after the Supreme Court judgement which sacked him as the Governor of Imo State and also declared Hope Uzodinma as the Governor of the state.

In a meeting with members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at his Abuja residence on Saturday January 18, Emeka Ihedioha stated that he pities those celebrating his loss at the Supreme Court as they are not good students of democracy.

The sacked Governor of Imo State also disclosed that he is waiting for answers. He said;

Quote:“The elections in Imo were closely monitored, well advertised and everybody in Nigeria followed it through. The results were very clear, the electoral umpire still has the results.
“It is not about Emeka Ihedioha. It is not about Imo State. It is about the future of our country and democracy. It’s about what do we do tomorrow. .. I am calm and we are calm, and that is why you see in Imo, there is calmness.
“The calmness is coming out of shock, it is coming of disbelief. It is coming out of the fact that people are saying, let us still see, can this be possible? We are waiting for answers and I believe there will be answers.
“This is not the time to celebrate. I pity anyone who is celebrating that sad event. If anyone is celebrating, that person is not a student of democracy."

Quote:Secondus, Peter Obi, Abaribe Protest Against Supreme Court Judgement In Abuja

Leaders and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have staged a protest across the streets of Abuja over the recent verdict of the Supreme Court that sacked one of its governors, Emeka Ihedioha.

The party’s national chairman, Uche Secondus, on Friday, during the party’s emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting stated that the aim of the protest was to impress it on Nigerians that injustice has been done to the party.

The Supreme Court had on January 14 nullified the electoral victory of Emeka Ihedioha, the PDP Imo State 2019 governorship candidate.

The apex court had held that the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Hope Uzodinma, was the duly elected governor of the state and ordered that he be sworn in as the governor of the state.

Some of the PDP leaders at the protest include the PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus; the 2019 Vice-President candidate, Peter Obi; and the Senate Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe.

Ihedioha: Women In Black Protest, Cry For God's Intervention For Ihedioha (Photo)

Supporters of Emeka Ihedioha, former governor of Imo, flooded the streets of Owerri, the state capital, on Sunday, demanding a reversal of the supreme court judgement which ordered his sack.

The apex court had on Tuesday ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to return Hope Uzodinma, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as winner of the March election.

Uzodinma placed a distant fourth in the results announced by INEC.

The aggrieved protesters wielded placards with inscriptions such as: “Ihedioha We Know’; “Democracy Has Been Murdered”; “We Want Him Back”, among others.

Most of them dressed in black attire. See pictures below

PDP's protest in Abuja was an attempt to take over Buhari’s govt' – Imo gov Hope Uzodinma says, alleges plot to impeach him

Hope Uzodinma, the new governor of Imo state, has said that the protest held by PDP chieftains led by its party chairman Uche Secondus in Abuja on Monday January 20th, was an attempt to take over the Buhari led government.

Secondus in company of the PDP Vice Presidential candidate in the 2019 election, Peter Obi, Dino Melaye and other chieftains, took to the streets of Abuja to protest the January 14th judgement by the Supreme court nullifying Emeka Ihedioha's election and replacing him with APC's Hope Uzodinma.

Reacting to the protest, Uzodinma who met with APC supporters in his office, said the fact that the PDP members decided to hold the protest in Abuja showed they had an ulterior motive which was to topple the Buhari government. He said they should stop protesting as it was God who made him Governor.

Quote:The motive of those who are wearing black, protesting around the country is not about the Imo State governorship election. If it is the Imo State governorship election, why are PDP members protesting in Abuja, Bayelsa and everywhere in the country? Why are they not protesting only in Imo State?
PDP wants to overthrow the government of President Muhammadu Buhari. I, therefore, use this medium to call on all the security agencies to begin an investigation into the organised synchronised national crisis, which the PDP is plotting.
I want you to keep supporting the government of President Buhari. You all know that I was the frontrunner candidate during the 2019 governorship election in Imo State. I did not challenge the election on the grounds of violence. I challenged the election on the grounds that INEC refused to accept the results of 388 polling units it accepted at the collation centres.
The Tribunal did not understand our petition. The Appeal Court gave us a minority judgement, but the Supreme Court, in its wisdom, understood our petition and gave judgement in our favour.
“I am already the governor and I am in charge of Imo State Government House. Why would anybody challenge the integrity and wisdom of the Supreme Court justices? The Supreme Court justices gave us a majority judgement. The seven justices of the Supreme Court delivered their judgement in our favour.
“The same God who made me governor will sustain me. Nobody becomes governor without God’s approval. Don’t be afraid. I am in charge here and we will keep supporting and praying for our president to succeed.”

The governor also alleged that there were plans to impeach him. According to him, the PDP is plotting with members of the state house of Assembly to impeach him over an alleged $12million fraud case

Quote:“We know the gameplan of the PDP because we are aware that they have been secretly inciting Imo State House of Assembly members to think of how to impeach the governor. So, they are trying to rake up anything they can, even falsehood, to incite the public'' he said
