Supreme Court Sacks Ihedioha, Declares Uzodinma Winner Of Imo Election
Quote:The Supreme Court has declared Senator Hope Uzodimma as governor of Imo State.

The seven-member panel of justices today held that Emeka Ihedioha was not duly elected Governor.

Earlier in the day, the issue of candidacy of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the March 9, 2019 governorship election in Imo state has forced one of the candidates, Uche Nwosu, to withdraw his appeal at the Supreme Court. Nwosu, who decamped to the Action Alliance (AA) before the election, was said to have also been presented by a faction of the APC as the party’s candidate in the election.

At the resumed hearing of the appeals from Imo State on Tuesday, Nwosu’s counsel, Solomon Umoh (SAN), informed the apex court panel that he has advised his client to withdraw since the apex court had on December 20 disqualified him for laying claim to two political party nominations.

“My lordship, the issue has been addressed as to the validity of the APC candidate. It is not possible for APC to have two candidates,” Umoh said. However, when Umoh indicated he would leave it to the discretion of the panel to decide whether Nwosu can still pursue his other appeal as the candidate of AA, the panel overruled him.

“Nothing can bring him here. That matter is gone. Your client has no locus standi to bring this appeal,” Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun said. As a result, the CJN struck out Nwosu’s appeal including the cross appeal against it brought by Governor Emeka Ihedioha through his counsel, Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN).

Father Mbaka Attends Hope Uzodinma’s Swearing-in Ceremony

Residents of Owerri, the Imo state capital, swarmed around Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka’s car, as he arrived for Senator Hope Uzodinma’s swearing-in ceremony on Wednesday.

Mbaka was one of the guests at the event held at the Imo State Government House.

The crowd continued to hail Mbaka over his ‘prophecy’ which had come to pass.

The controversial cleric predicted that Uzodinma, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), will take over from Emeka Ihedioha as Imo Governor in 2020.

His prophecy came to pass on Tuesday, as the Supreme Court sacked Ihedioha and declared Uzodinma as the Governor of Imo State.

Other guests included the National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, former Governor of the State, Senator Rochas Okorocha and governorship candidate of APGA in the 2019 governorship election, Ifeanyi Ararume.

Several APC chieftains, including APC National Vice Chairman, Emma Eneukwu, APC National Organising Secretary, Emma Ibediro, the Speaker of the Imo House of Assembly Chiji, as well as Ahmed Gulak and Andy Uba, were also in attendance.

Uzodinma and his deputy, Professor Placid Njoku, were sworn in by the Chief Justice of the state, Justice Pascal Nnadi.

Supreme Court judgement still shocking- ex-Imo governor, Emeka Ihedioha, says

Emeka Ihedioha, the immediate past governor of Imo state, has said that the January 14th ruling delivered by the Supreme court in which his tenure was abruptly cut short, is still shocking to him many other Nigerians.
Speaking when a delegation of PDP chieftains led by its party chairman, Uche Secondus, paid him a visit in his Abuja home this morning, Ihedioha said
Quote:We are as shocked as yourselves. That event will define our electoral system. It is at the foundation of our electoral processes. It is not about Imo State but about our electoral processes. We are clam, calmness out of shock.”
Also speaking, the party chairman, Uche Secondus said the figures put forward by the Supreme court which enabled it declare Hope Uzodinma winner of the March 9th 2019 election, are not adding up.
Quote: We know that the Supreme Court is the end. What we seek in the case of Imo State is for the Supreme Court to reverse (the judgement). We are saying that figures are not adding up, can they look at it again? We are a nation governed by laws.
“In the case of Imo State, we have more questions than answers because we cannot see the figures adding up. There are many questions agitating our minds and the minds of Nigerians. I want to appeal to our brothers on the other side to stop trivialising issues.”
Quote:Secondus, Peter Obi, Abaribe Protest Against Supreme Court Judgement In Abuja

Leaders and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have staged a protest across the streets of Abuja over the recent verdict of the Supreme Court that sacked one of its governors, Emeka Ihedioha.

The party’s national chairman, Uche Secondus, on Friday, during the party’s emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting stated that the aim of the protest was to impress it on Nigerians that injustice has been done to the party.

The Supreme Court had on January 14 nullified the electoral victory of Emeka Ihedioha, the PDP Imo State 2019 governorship candidate.

The apex court had held that the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Hope Uzodinma, was the duly elected governor of the state and ordered that he be sworn in as the governor of the state.

Some of the PDP leaders at the protest include the PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus; the 2019 Vice-President candidate, Peter Obi; and the Senate Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe.

PDP's protest in Abuja was an attempt to take over Buhari’s govt' – Imo gov Hope Uzodinma says, alleges plot to impeach him

Hope Uzodinma, the new governor of Imo state, has said that the protest held by PDP chieftains led by its party chairman Uche Secondus in Abuja on Monday January 20th, was an attempt to take over the Buhari led government.

Secondus in company of the PDP Vice Presidential candidate in the 2019 election, Peter Obi, Dino Melaye and other chieftains, took to the streets of Abuja to protest the January 14th judgement by the Supreme court nullifying Emeka Ihedioha's election and replacing him with APC's Hope Uzodinma.
Reacting to the protest, Uzodinma who met with APC supporters in his office, said the fact that the PDP members decided to hold the protest in Abuja showed they had an ulterior motive which was to topple the Buhari government. He said they should stop protesting as it was God who made him Governor.
Quote:The motive of those who are wearing black, protesting around the country is not about the Imo State governorship election. If it is the Imo State governorship election, why are PDP members protesting in Abuja, Bayelsa and everywhere in the country? Why are they not protesting only in Imo State?
PDP wants to overthrow the government of President Muhammadu Buhari. I, therefore, use this medium to call on all the security agencies to begin an investigation into the organised synchronised national crisis, which the PDP is plotting.
I want you to keep supporting the government of President Buhari. You all know that I was the frontrunner candidate during the 2019 governorship election in Imo State. I did not challenge the election on the grounds of violence. I challenged the election on the grounds that INEC refused to accept the results of 388 polling units it accepted at the collation centres.
The Tribunal did not understand our petition. The Appeal Court gave us a minority judgement, but the Supreme Court, in its wisdom, understood our petition and gave judgement in our favour.
“I am already the governor and I am in charge of Imo State Government House. Why would anybody challenge the integrity and wisdom of the Supreme Court justices? The Supreme Court justices gave us a majority judgement. The seven justices of the Supreme Court delivered their judgement in our favour.
“The same God who made me governor will sustain me. Nobody becomes governor without God’s approval. Don’t be afraid. I am in charge here and we will keep supporting and praying for our president to succeed.”
The governor also alleged that there were plans to impeach him. According to him, the PDP is plotting with members of the state house of Assembly to impeach him over an alleged $12million fraud case
Quote:“We know the gameplan of the PDP because we are aware that they have been secretly inciting Imo State House of Assembly members to think of how to impeach the governor. So, they are trying to rake up anything they can, even falsehood, to incite the public'' he said
Reverse Imo state judgement or face the wrath of God- Anglican bishops warn Supreme court judges

Bishops of the Anglican Church in Nigeria have rejected the Tuesday January 14th Supreme Court’s judgment that nullified the election of Emeka Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as Imo state governor and replaced him with Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Anglican Bishops, who spoke through the Archbishop of Enugu Province, Dr. Emmanuel Chukwuma, said that going by Rochas Okorocha's antecedents, there was no way Imo state indigenes could have voted enmass for Uzodinma.
Describing the judgement as “wicked and corrupt”, Archbishop Chukwuma warned that failure to reverse the decision could attract the wrath of God on the Supreme Court justices.
Quote:“I am speaking the minds of most of the Bishops of the Anglican Church that we are very much discontented and very much in disagreement with the kangaroo judgment of the Supreme Court on what has happened in mo State.
We sincerely feel disappointed with the Chief Justice of Nigeria who has not got his facts correct and we feel that that judgment is wicked and corrupt.
And so we are calling on the Supreme Court to reverse their judgment on Imo State before they see the wrath of God.
There is no way Imo State people could have voted for APC with the bad governance of Okorocha for which in the House of Assembly the APC had no single seat during the election.
Hope Uzodinma is my friend. I am not against him but I am against the Supreme Court justices who mutilated the result, judging the case on the total votes that was more than accredited votes, which is absolutely incongruous and very much antithetical to the democratic spirit.
It is therefore our prayer that INEC should also be up and doing in their declaration of results and be able to defend whatever they declare in the sight of the Supreme Court.” he said
On the role played by Father Mbaka in the judgment, Archbishop Chukwuma said Father Mbaka should stop with his distorted prophecy and face his ministry.
Quote:“He is politicising his ministry too much and commercialising his ministry, and that is dangerous to the ministry of the church, and this we totally condemn,” Chukwuma said
