Champions League: Raheem Sterling scores hattrick as Man City hammer Atalanta 5-1

Raheem Sterling scored an 11-minute hat-trick and had a hand in all five goals as Manchester City came from behind to thump Italian side Atalanta 5-1 in their Champions League Group C encounter on Tuesday.
Forward Sergio Aguero also scored two in the first half at the City of Manchester Stadium.

But, England winger Sterling was the star of the show as the home side made it three wins from three to open up a five-point lead at the midway point of the pool.
Atalanta have now lost all three of their group matches in their debut season in the Champions League, but started brightly and had the lead via a Ruslan Malinovsky’s penalty.
City were ruthless in their response though and drove forward. They finished the game with 10 men after teenager Phil Foden received a second yellow card on 83 minutes.

Atalanta showed admirable ambition in the opening stages and were rewarded on 28 minutes. Malinovsky converted the penalty after Fernandinho had brought down Josip Ilicic just inside the box.

If City were rattled by going behind, they did not show it and instead lifted the tempo of their play.

They were level six minutes later when Sterling’s magnificent cross was turned into the net from close-range by Aguero.

Sterling won a penalty when his surging run was illegally stopped by defender Andrea Masiello for the second clear spot-kick of the night.

Aguero drilled the ball low into the left-hand corner for the lead, but the half ended on a sour note when City’s makeshift centre-back Rodri limped off with a hamstring problem to be replaced by John Stones, himself only just back from a thigh problem.

Sterling got the goal his performance richly deserved on 58 minutes as Kevin De Bruyne picked out Foden in the box and the latter’s lay-off was easy for the winger to finish.

Five minutes later and he had another. Played into space on the left, he turned inside the covering defender and provided an emphatic finish, before his hat-trick was complete when he poked home a Riyad Mahrez cross from close-range.

Sterling should have had a fourth too when Foden’s excellent pass sent him clear on goal, but he put the ball the wrong side of the post.

Champions League: Mbappe breaks Messi’s record in PSG’s 5-0 win over Club Brugge




Paris Saint-Germain star, Kylian Mbappe, has broken Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi’s record to become the youngest player to score fifteen UEFA Champions League goals in the Europe top flight competition.

According to Goal, the 20-year-old France international broke the record during PSG’s 5-0 away victory over Club Brugge in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

He came off the bench to score a second half hat-trick for Thomas Tuchel’s men against the Belgium side.
Mbappe’s three goals means he has now scored 15 Champions League goals at the age of 20 years and 306 days, surpassing the record previously held by Messi, who achieved the same at aged 21 years and 288 days.

Messi had beaten Real Madrid legend Raul González’s mark of 22 years and 163 days initially.

Mbappe will now hope to lead PSG to victory when they take on Marseille in the French Ligue 1 this weekend.

Ajax 0-1 Chelsea (Michy Bathshuayi's last minute goal gives Blues surprise win in UEFA Champions League)



                


Chelsea surprisingly beat Ajax 0-1 in the Johan Cruyff Arena, Amsterdam Wednesday night despite an Ajax goal in the first half being ruled off by VAR as offside and both teams having few shots on target during the entire game.
 
                   
 
Chelsea coach Frank Lampard, starved of high profile players due to the FIFA transfer ban imposed on the club, started with a young team in Amsterdam.
 
                  
 
Ajax devoid of former players De Ligt and Frankie De Jong still boasted of a strong line up that could make any team in Europe shrink and unsurprisingly Ajax did have the ball in the back of the net when Quincy Promes tucked the ball away following a deflected shot from Haki Ziyech.
 
                 

 
But the goal didn't stand after the referee upon consultation with VAR disallowed stating that it was offside.
 

 
Ajax filled with pace, panache and perseverance tried finding holes in the Chelsea defence but Lampard's team fought back with super performances from the central defensive partnership of Kurt Zouma and Fikayo Tomori and the never die spirit of young Mason Mount.
 
In the second half it was a whole different ball game and Chelsea started to press the Ajax defence and substitute Christian Pulisic in the dying minutes of the game provided the assist for Michy Batshuayi to smash home a goal. 
 
Chelsea with this win are now level on points with Ajax in their group after 3 games.

Very happy' Frank Lampard reacts to Chelsea's champions league win over Ajax in Amsterdam



                                


Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard is in a happy mood after his young Chelsea team went to Amsterdam on Wednesday night of the UEFA Champions League and beat Ajax, last season's champions league semi-finalist.

A tough match, given the quality of Ajax players, and Chelsea's young team due to FIFA's transfer ban imposed on the club.
 
Chelsea set out to Amsterdam knowing that a draw against Ajax would be seen as a very good result but Lampard who is overseeing an influx of youth players and academy products into the Chelsea first team has revealed his delight at the win after Chelsea's Batshuayi netted the winner in the dying minutes.
 
                               

Speaking to BT sport after clinching the unexpected three points, the Chelsea legend said;

"I am delighted with the quality of the moments. The work ethic of the group. It was outstanding throughout From the subs that is what you want. Delighted. It is great for everyone."
"It feels huge. I think that the work of everyone was outstanding. Kurt Zouma, wow."
 "The performance tonight and the last couple off the bench might show that. I didn’t listen to the outside talk. I understood the quality of Christian, he is just 21. I have options. Former England/Man U. footballer Nicky Butt denies assaulting his wife of 11 years and damaging her £800 iPhone






Manchester united and England football legend Nicky Butt, 44, has denied assaulting his wife of 11 years, Shelly Butt and damaging her 800 pounds iphone during a fight at their 4million pounds home earlier this year.
 
              
 
The ex midfielder- who was part of the famed 'class of 92' teenage Manchester team that included David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Gary and Phil Neville-, today appeared at Manchester Magistrates' Court where he denied assault by beating and criminal damage.
                    
                      
 
Butt, had lived with Shelly in the village of Hale, Greater Manchester, and coaches United's Academy. He had been arrested in June following the alleged incident which occurred at 2pm on April 16. 
 
The court case which held today has been adjourned after Nicky Butt claimed the phone was 'thrust' into his face during the row and he accidentally knocked it out of Shelly's hand. 
 
Butt will face a two day trial at the magistrates' court in February and the maximum sentence for common assault is six months imprisonment.

Prosecutor Joanne Cronshaw speaking to press on Wednesday  said: 'There are a number of witnesses and the trial will take at least a day and a half to two days. There was scratch to the hand caused within the incident relating to the first charge.'
 
Defence lawyer Lisa Roberts speaking about Nicky Butt said; 'He has no previous convictions and is of good character.   
'He strenuously denies these allegations and it is important these issues are heard. This will go into a two day and Mr Butt will give evidence.
'There is issue as to fact and character evidence as well.

Villarreal have tied highly-rated forward Samuel Chukwueze to a new contract with a renewed €100m release clause, say Diario AS.

The 20-year-old Nigerian is enjoying an impressive rise to prominence for the Yellow Submarine’s first-team squad after only making his debut in November last year.

The player’s former contract at the contract contained a €40m release clause which would allow bigger clubs in European football to circulate for his signature.

In less than a year, the Villlarreal has increased the clause of the Nigerian striker twice , with what happened first to 25 million, after his arrival to the first team; and months later it went to 65 million, with which it had already started this course.

But his growth as a player and his sports performance have meant that from the club he wanted to carry out another improvement , seeing that the suitors have never stopped stalking the player and that the growth of the player is going faster and faster. Chukwueze is already a fixture in Villarreal and for Calleja , being a player that alternates ownership and minutes with Ekambi, and is also a fixed and usual in the eleven of his selection. In addition, now he has been added to being recognized as one of the ten young candidates for the Kopa de France Football.

A nomination that has already arrived with Chukwueze renewed and armored and with nothing more and nothing less than with 100 million clause , which is already a first level figure. An amount that for Villarreal is a record , since there are very few players who have dressed in yellow and have had a clause of this caliber. It should be remembered that the biggest transfers in the club's history are those of Eric Bailly and Cedric Bakambu, for which 40 million euros were paid.

Villarreal ensures that Chukwueze has a millionaire outing since, seeing the amounts, it could only be given to large clubs and with great economic potential.


The Nigerian international is now a regular in Javi Calleja’s side having already made eight appearances in La Liga this campaign and looks set to have a bright future at the top level.

The new deal is said to be a recognition of his growth as a player and the potential he possesses.

Manchester City star, Raheem Sterling has been included in the UEFA Champions League team of this week.
UEFA released the Champions League team in a post on their official website on Thursday.

Sterling was included in the team after his impressive performance for Pep Guardiola’s men against Atalanta on Wednesday.
The England international scored a hat-trick against the Serie A side in their 5-1 victory on Wednesday night.
Sterling made the list alongside Paris Saint-Germian’s Kylian Mbappe and Tottenham’s Heung-Min Son

Rivaldo reveals what Mbappe must do to replace Messi, Ronaldo as World’s Best Player



Brazilian legend, Rivaldo has urged the Paris Saint-German frontman, Kylian Mbappe to secure a transfer away from Ligue 1 in order to fulfil his potentials in football and follow in the footsteps of multiple Ballon d’Or winners Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
20-year-old Mbappe, who joined French champions PSG in 2017, has already won the World Cup with France in 2018, and six major trophies at club level, including three Ligue 1 titles.

A number of pundits have tipped Mbappe to pick up the mantle as the best player in the world when Juventus forward Ronaldo and Barcelona talisman Messi finally hang up their boots.
However, Rivaldo feels the PSG superstar must first seal a move to either Spain or England to achieve that feat.
According to him, the ‘competitive level’ in France does not measure up to the same high standards as in the Premier League or La Liga.

Speaking with Betfair, the ex-Brazil international said: “There’s no doubt Mbappe has the qualities to become one of the best in the world, as he is playing great football and has huge potential.
“He would be able to develop his talent by playing in La Liga or the Premier League.
“Ligue 1 is clearly below the competitive level of Spain or England. With all due respect to PSG, I believe he must leave for a Spanish or big English team in the future to confirm himself as the heir to Messi or Ronaldo. The best players need to play in the best leagues.

“But I think it would be tough for Barcelona to sign him in the future, as he is very expensive due to his young age, world champion status and natural ability that makes him one of the biggest prospects in the world of football.
“If Barca had so many problems in trying to sign Neymar, just imagine how much PSG would be asking for the Frenchman, so it’s almost impossible to bring this excellent player to Catalonia at the moment.”

Court orders Ghanaian striker, Asamoah Gyan to pay his estranged wife £18,450.74 as maintenance fee







The Accra High Court has ordered Ghanaian star and NorthEast United striker, Asamoah Gyan, to pay his estranged wife, Gifty Gyan, £18,450.74 as maintenance fee.  
 
Justice Hafisata Amaleboba of the court’s divorce and matrimonial division ruled that the money should be paid for the upkeep of Gyan’s three children in Gifty’s custody.
 
As the court prepares to give its final ruling on their divorce case, Justice Amaleboba maintained that Asamoah Gyan must settle bills and other expenditures covering water, electricity, gas, feeding, and others in arrears commencing from July 2018 to September 2019, totalling £18,450.74.  
 
The order also includes “bills in respect of groceries £1, 500, fuel-£250, calls-£50, clothing-£200 in arrears commencing July 2019 to September 2019 totalling – £6,000”.  
 
The Matrimonial Court also ordered that “bills for MoT (Ministry of Transport) Tax and insurance for the year 2019, amounting to £1,700 be paid. Gyan is also to pay the educational expenses of the three children, including those in arrears from July 2018 to September 2019 covering (pockets money, school trips, books etc), amounting to £2,800.    
 
Asamoah Gyan, who is Ghana’s most capped player and highest goal-scorer, has been embroiled in a fresh setback that saw him lose his captaincy following a brawl with Black Stars coach ahead of AFCON.

EPL: Brendan Rodgers reveals why Leicester City thrashed Southampton 9-0




Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has provided the reasons his side was able to thrash Southampton 9-0 in their Premier League clash on Friday night.
The manager also hailed the performance after they smashed the records by sweeping Southampton aside in a one-sided game at the St Mary’s.

The Foxes won 9-0 to set a new record for the biggest-ever victory by an away side in an English top-flight league match in the 131-year history of the Football League..
It was hat-tricks from Ayoze Pérez and Jamie Vardy, and further strikes from Ben Chilwell, Youri Tielemans and James Maddison that secured the win to send the Foxes second in the Premier League standings.
“[It was] a brilliant performance,” the manager told LCFC TV.

“We obviously started the game very well, went in front, and they obviously had the man sent off, but how we worked that, in terms of how to play… we speak about that, in terms of strategy.
“If we ever go down to 10 men, how the game looks and how it works, and we’ve seen that away at Burnley at the end of last season and then we’ve had it twice now this season and we’ve capitalised on it very well.
“It’s a mentality to playing against 10 men, but also it’s a tactical idea and the players performed and executed that to a really, really high level.

“We looked a very good side, [a] very composed side tonight, and a very exciting team. To score nine goals in a Premier League game is incredible.”
Rodgers added: “I think it was absolutely brilliant for Ayo (Ayoze Pérez) to get his first goals and to score a hat-trick… obviously Jamie [Vardy] got a hat-trick as well, but the contribution of the whole team… collectively, how they managed the game, and the speed in the game was very good.
“Of course, you can lose your concentration in games like that, and we gave them virtually no chances and defended very, very strongly as well.
“It’s a great testament to the work of the players and how they have been working, so it’s an unbelievable scoreline.
“The supporters will drive home on a couple-hour journey and probably can’t believe it, but the team have played ever so well, and it was a very, very, very, very good performance and we now move on to our next game.”

EPL: Ndidi shines as Leicester beat Southampton 9-0, now second on Premier League table




Nigeria international, Wilfred Ndidi dominated the midfield and was arguably one of the best players on the night as Leicester City in devastating form thrashed 10 man Southampton 9-0 in the Premier League.
Leicester also created a history at the St Mary’s Stadium for the biggest away win in the Premier League.

The last time such result was recorded was 25 years ago when Manchester United beat Ipswich Town by the same scoreline.
The Forces have never won more than 5-0 away in the English top flight, the previous record result coming in 1970 against Charlton Athletic.
Southampton were reduced to ten men when Ryan Bertrand was sent off for a tackle on Ayoze Perez in the 12th minute.

The Nigeria international Ndidi had 90 touches of the ball, won one aerial duel, made one key pass, won seven tackles, had one interception, one clearance and committed three fouls.
He was also involved in the build up to the first goal scored by Leicester left back Ben Chilwell.
Ndidi has thus played in nine of Leicester City’s ten Premier League matches so far this season.

Chilwell opened floodgate with Ayoze Perez scoring in the 19th, 39th and 57th minutes while Jamie Vardy also bagged a hat-trick by scoring in the 45th, 58th and 90th minutes.
Youri Tielemans was on target in the 17th minute and James Maddison netted a fabulous free-kick to make it 8-0 with five minutes left on the clock.
Leicester are now second in the Premier League table with 20 points.

Mourinho spotted at Arsenal vs Vitoria Europa League clash as Emery remains under pressure


Former Manchester United and Chelsea coach, Jose Mourinho, was spotted at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday night, AllNigeriaSoccer reports.

The Portuguese watched on, as Arsenal came from behind to record a 3-2 win against Vitória de Guimaraes in the Europa League.

It is unclear if Mourinho was on a scouting mission, or if he was invited by the powers that be at Arsenal.
However, his visit comes with Gunners’ boss Unai Emery, under pressure, following a series of indifferent results.
Arsenal lost 1-0 at Sheffield United on Monday and were 2-1 down to Vitoria, until Nicolas Pepe was introduced from the bench and scored a pair of brilliant free-kicks.

A few supporters were also seen carrying placards asking for Emery to be sacked at the game.

Manchester United chief Ed Woodward has given the green light for a £125million double Bundesliga swoop for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz and Bayern Munich striker Thomas Muller in January.

United despatched their top scouts to Germany on Saturday to watch 20-year-old German international Havertz in action against Werder Bremen as well as watching Muller in Bayern Munich's clash with Union Berlin.

Muller has been on United's before radar, notably in 2014 when the club wanted to make him David Moyes' first signing after the end of the Sir Alex Ferguson era.

The German attacker, now 30, is no longer seen as a first choice option by coach Niko Kovac and has started from the bench in five of Bayern's last seven games.

Although Muller falls outside the younger age range of players United want to buy, he is still seen as a viable target by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who is keen to help develop United's young strike trio Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and 18-year-old Mason Greenwood.

Muller's goal record of 110 goals in 326 games for the German giants makes him an attractive proposition having failed to land Croatian front man Mario Mandzukic- 34 next May - from Juventus on deadline day in August.

But it's the capture of Havertz who would be a major coup – with all of Europe's top clubs in the hunt for the emerging youngster.

Leverkusen have slapped a massive £85 million valuation on Havertz – but that won't deter United as they build for the future.

And having kept their powder dry last summer in the search for the right midfielder United believe it's worth the investment to land play-maker Havertz who has a killer pass in his locker and an ability to dictate temo.

Havertz completely fits their mould in age, talent, potential – and the X-factor ingredient they are looking for from future signings.

President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria for a fantastic beginning in the group opening match of FIFA World Cup Brazil 2019.


Nigeria Under-17 football team opened Brazil 2019 with a 4-2 win over Hungary, signaling their readiness to win the FIFA Championship for an unprecedented sixth time.

In a message to the team after the spectacular performance on Saturday night, President Buhari praised the boys for the determination to excel which they displayed throughout the match despite the brilliant performance of their opponents.

"It was a wonderful display that I am very proud of. You showed that there is nothing that cannot be achieved with determination and perseverance.

"I have followed your journey leading to your arrival in Brazil for the competition. I have equally noted your determination and confidence throughout your preparations.

"I have no doubt in my mind that you are determined to win the competition for an unparalleled sixth time,” President Buhari said.

He assured them of his continuing personal support and that of Nigerians for the entire period of the tournament.

The President also urged the team to continue demonstrating the resilient spirit of the Nigerian, and bring the cup home, adding that he will personally be monitoring their progress in the tournament.

Barcelona legend, Lionel Messi finally names Ronaldo as best striker in history




Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi has named Ronaldo Nazario de Lima as his best striker in the history of the game.
Ronaldo had won the hearts of many fans across world with his dribbling skills, as well as power and precision in front of goal.

Highlights of his illustrious football career include winning the 2002 World Cup with Brazil in Japan.
Asked who he thinks is the best striker of all time, Messi snubbed his closest rival Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammate Luis Suarez.
“Ronaldo [Nazario] was a phenomenon, Of all the strikers I ever saw, he was the best,” Messi told TyC Sports.

“He was impressive,” he added.
Speaking on his best strike partner for Barcelona, Messi said: “Ronaldinho helped me a lot. I came into the dressing room at 16-17 years of age, seeing all those footballing giants made it tough.
“But he mentored me and made me feel comfortable, and I loosened up. Afterwards on the pitch, I always looked for him but we didn’t have many years to enjoy together. Besides, we didn’t play as much at that time. I would have liked to play more with Ronaldinho.

EPL: Solskjaer admits VAR wrong to give Man Utd penalty

Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has disagreed with VAR’s decision, to award his side the first of their two penalties in a 3-1 victory over Norwich on Sunday.

The controversial call came just before the half-hour mark, when Ben Godfrey tangled with United winger Daniel James and referee Stuart Attwell initially seeing no foul.
However, after a lengthy VAR intervention, he changed his decision.

Krul stepped up and saved Rashford’s effort from 12 yards.
“VAR is there to help but when it takes ages like the first penalty, it is not a clean and obvious error.
“When it took that long, it is a signal that it should not have been,” Solskjaer said after the game.

EPL: Man Utd break two Premier League records after in 3-1 win over Norwich




Manchester United on Sunday evening broke two English Premier League (EPL) records in their 3-1 win over Norwich City.
Goals from Scott McTominay, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial ensured Man United defeated Norwich at Carrow Road.

According to OptaJoe, the Red Devils became the firs team to reach 2000 Premier League goals after McTominay opened scoring for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side in the first half of the encounter.
Also, both Rashford and Martial are the first pair of teammates in the English top-flight league to have both scored a goal and missed a penalty each in the same EPL game.
The result against Norwich means, Man United are now in seventh position on the Premier League table with 13 points from 10 matches.

Man United will now take on Bournemouth in their next Premier League fixture on November 2.

Jamie Vardy has jumped to the top of the highest goal scorers’ chart, following his hat-trick in their 9-0 whitewash of Southampton last Friday.
The England striker has now nine goals to his name.

Sergio Aguero (Manchester City) and Tammy Abraham (Chelsea), who are both on eight goals, failed to score against Aston Villa and Burnley respectively.
Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also did not find the back of the net, as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Crystal Palace on Sunday.

FIFA doesn’t care about racism in football, they respect nobody’ - Yaya Toure






Yaya Toure has said FIFA is not doing enough to stamp out racism and that England should have walked off the pitch in the face of monkey chants during their Euro 2020 qualifier in Bulgaria.  
 
The 36-year-old former Barcelona and Manchester City midfielder made the comments to AFP after Qingdao Huanghai clinched promotion to the Chinese Super League at the weekend. England’s 6-0 victory in Sofia earlier this month was marred by racist chants and Nazi salutes from a section of Bulgarian fans.  
 
The game was halted twice during the first half but England players opted to complete the match instead of walking off the pitch.

“This is a shame, why are you playing for England? They are always talking, ‘Blah, blah, blah’, and what? Nothing changes” Toure, who has been outspoken on football’s racism problem, said of the decision.

The four-time African player of the year said: “People from FIFA don’t care anyway because we’ve been talking about this, but it’s still continuing. I don’t want to say that I’m not concerned, I’m concerned”. 
“They have to be serious about it, players need to make serious moves about it otherwise they (the racists) will continue to do that. They have to get the players out of the field. They respect nobody’.
 
Toure was speaking after he played a pivotal role for Qingdao in a 2-0 win on Saturday at Shanghai Shenxin, attended by just a few hundred spectators.
