Mohamed Salah named GQ Middle East Man of The Year (Photos)







Liverpool and Egyptian striker, Mohamed Salah was crowned GQ Middle East Man of The Year at the first-ever GQ Middle East Men of the Year Awards which took place at Louvre Abu Dhabi this week.
 
The football star was recognised alongside international actor Mena Massoud. Salah won the overall award for Man of the Year and Massoud won the award for Breakthrough Talent.
 

 
Speaking at the star-studded event, Salah dedicated his award to his fans, particularly those in his native Egypt.
“They always support me,” he said. “Everywhere I go I feel the love and support.”
 

 
The Men of the Year awards, GQ Middle East’s first recognises ‘newcomers, lifetime achievers and men and women who have left an indelible mark on 2019’s cultural landscape’.

Ex-Chelsea and Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech signs with Ice Hockey club Guildford Phoenix and will make debut on Sunday







Petr Cech has made a switch to another sport after signing for ice hockey club Guildford Pheonix until the end of the season.
 
The former Arsenal and Chelsea goalkeeper retired from professional football at the end of last season and has been training with the Ice hockey club as he bids to begin his ice hockey career. 
 

 
He said: 'I am delighted to have the opportunity to play with the Pheonix to get the match experience. 
 
'I hope I can help this young team to achieve their goals for the season and try to win as many games as possible when I have the chance to play. 
 
'After 20 years of professional football this is going to be a wonderful experience for me to play the game I loved to watch and play as a kid.'
 
The Pheonix head coach Andy Hemmings said: 'The signing of Petr is massive for the Pheonix.
'He is a great guy who trains hard and I cannot wait to see him make his debut'.

Chelsea react as Cech joins hockey team

Chelsea have explained that Petr Cech’s new career in ice hockey, will not affect his role at the club.
In an official statement, the Blues clarified that he will only play for the Guildford Phoenix, when his schedule allows him to.

Cech announced on Wednesday, that he would be swapping football boots for ice skates and lining up in goal for the Phoenix, with his debut coming on Sunday.
But Cech has already taken up a role as technical and performance advisor at Chelsea since retiring from football.
“[Cech] will play as goalie for Guildford Phoenix, which is located close to where he lives.

“When his Chelsea Football Club schedule allows, he is ready to help them in their league games,” Chelsea explained on their website.

Messi sends message to Barcelona’s Griezmann

Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi has hailed fellow teammate, Antoine Griezmann as one of the best players in the world.
Messi, who recently said he does not have any problem with Griezmann, despite the Frenchman claiming they were yet to connect, noted that the forward is a very intelligent player with a lot of quality.

Griezmann joined Barcelona from Atletico Madrid in last summer transfer window.
Speaking in an interview with Catalan radio station, RAC1, Messi said: “It isn’t easy to play FC Barcelona because of our philosophy.
“Griezmann is accustomed to another style.

“He’s a very intelligent player with a lot of quality. He will adapt, and Griezmann is welcome. He’s one of the best.”
Griezmann has scored three goals for Barcelona so far this season.

Portugal vs Luxembourg: What Cristiano Ronaldo said ahead of clash

Portugal captain, Cristiano Ronaldo has expressed joy after returning to the national team ahead of their 2020 UEFA Euro qualifiers fixture against Luxembourg on Friday night.
Ronaldo also expressed confidence that Fernando Santos’s men will make Portugal proud when they tackle Luxembourg at the Estádio José Alvalade Stadium.

Portugal head to the game following a 5-1 victory over Lithuania in their last encounter.
“It is always a great happiness to be back in my country, to represent the national team and to see friends from so many battles.
“All together, we will fight once again to raise the name of Portugal high! Let’s go team,” the 34-year-old wrote on Twitter ahead of Luxembourg clash.

Santos’s side are currently on second position behind Ukraine in their Group B standings with eight points from four matches.

Cavani, Silva set to leave PSG

Edinson Cavani and Thiago Silva could leave Paris Saint-Germain for free at the end of the season, ESPN reports.
The two players are both into their final year of contracts and the Ligue 1 giants are yet to offer either a new deal.

Cavani, 32, and Silva, 35, are two of the most senior members of the PSG squad. However, Uruguay international Cavani has struggled with injury this campaign and there are younger options ready to replace Silva.

It is believed that Cavani has not totally ruled out the possibility of staying and believes he can still convince sporting director Leonardo and the PSG leadership to offer him a new deal.

However, Silva has also been left in the dark regarding the club’s plans for him beyond the end of this term.

Manchester United Suffer Financial Blow As Chevrolet Swerve £400m Shirt Deal



Manchester United are searching for a new shirt sponsor with Chevrolet highly unlikely to renew their deal while the club struggle on the field.

The American car manufacturer signed a staggering £410million agreement in 2012, when Sir Alex Ferguson was at the helm and United were consistently challenging for top honours.

The seven-year deal came into play in 2014.

In the time United have displayed the Chevrolet brand on their shirts, they have failed to win the Premier League title and come nowhere near lifting the Champions League.

Now, with the club two points above the relegation zone under struggling manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the fallen giants look further than ever from challenging again at the highest level.

Industry sources say that bosses at General Motors (GM), of which Chevrolet is a division, have been thoroughly unimpressed with United’s performance over the duration of the deal, which expires at the end of next season.

However, there is also a belief that the deal was never going to be renewed.

One insider said: ‘It was doomed from the start. The feeling within was that Chevrolet had massively overpaid and it was never going to get done again.’

Indeed, the man who agreed the deal, global marketing chief Joel Ewanick, was axed less than 48 hours after it was announced.

At the time, it was reported that GM executives were furious when they learned their company would be paying substantially more than United’s last sponsor Aon. It was also claimed Ewanick failed to give his bosses full details of the agreement before signing off on it, although the man himself later described the deal as a ‘no-brainer’.

Figures seen by Sportsmail show the agreement with Chevrolet, which has brought in around £58.6m per season, dwarfs those the club had previously agreed.

Aon (2010-14) paid £19.6m a season, AIG (2006-10) £14.1m and Vodafone (2000-2006) £8m.

It is understood that United have already begun their search for a new sponsor and club insiders say they have had expressions of interest from a number of leading brands.

Despite their stuttering performances on the field, officials are confident in the strength of the brand and believe United’s red shirt remains attractive to potential partners, given their global following and the overall popularity of the Premier League.

United claimed recently that their following across the world had reached 1.1billion and executive vice chairman Ed Woodward has vowed that sponsorship revenue will be key to the size of their transfer fund.

A United spokesperson said: ‘Chevrolet is a fantastic partner. The sponsorship continues to achieve the brand and business objectives for both parties and we will continue to work to activate and maximise it.’

Cristiano Ronaldo moved on to 93 international goals after scoring four against Lithuania as Portugal secured a 5-1 win in Vilnius.

This means the forward is now only 16 goals behind men’s international record holder Ali Daei, who scored 109 goals in 149 games for Iran before retiring in 2006.

It now seems entirely a matter of when rather than if Ronaldo passes the Iranian to become the record holder – indeed, given his drive, it is becoming likely.

He has scored his 93 goals in 160 games – which equates to 0.58 goals per match. If Ronaldo holds that rate, he would require 28 games to equal Daei’s record.


However, Ronaldo’s scoring rate has improved in the last couple of years, with coach Fernando Santos using him in a more central role and surrounding and supporting him with creativity.
For example, Ronaldo has 12 goals in his last ten Portugal games, a rate of 1.2 goals per game. If Ronaldo continues at this pace, he would require only 14 more appearances to overhaul Daei.

Portugal have four Euro 2020 qualifiers to come, two of which come against minnows Luxembourg, while Santos’ side also host a return fixture with Lithuania.

This could further boost his tally ahead of Euro 2020, perhaps by as many as eight goals, if Ronaldo capitalises on the weaker defences Portugal’s fellow Group B combatants possess.

With friendlies and warm-up games also to come before the major tournament begins, Ronaldo could well be closing in on Daei’s record by the start of

Euro 2020 could bring seven more games if Portugal again reach the final.

Therefore, given his recent scoring rate, it is quite conceivable that Ronaldo could break the international goal scoring record during the Euros, possibly in the final.

Etebo Pulls Out Of Super Eagles' Squad Against Brazil Due To Visa Problem


Oghenekaro Etebo has withdrawn from the Super Eagles squad that will face South American giants Brazil in an international friendly match on Sunday, October 13, in Singapore.

The 23-year-old who currently plays for Stoke City, wasn't given entry visa to Singapore which prevented him from traveling.
Super Eagles handler Gernot Rohr is expected to miss the former Warri Wolves midfielder who has been in superb form since he came into the national team.

There will not be any replacement for Etebo for Super Eagles' encounter against Brazil as the likes of Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi will take control of the midfield.

Real Madrid Signs Salah Mejri

Real Madrid Basketball team have announced the signing of African star Salah Mejri. The Tunisian star returned to the European champions after leaving the club in 2015 for Dallas Mavericks.

The club released an official statement on their website to announce the deal.

“Real Madrid C. F. has reached an agreement with Liaoning Flying Leopards center, Salah Mejri. The deal ties the player to the club until the end of the current season,” the club stated.

“Salah Mejri (15 June 1986, Jendouba, Tunisia) is back at Real Madrid, where he previously spent a spell between 2013 and 2015 before making the move to the NBA, where he turned out for the Dallas Mavericks. The Tunisian, who measures in at 2.17 m, will strengthen the madridistas’ inside play and will complement Tavares in the aerial game.

“The centre is well used to Pablo Laso’s team’s playing style, the ACB and the EuroLeague, where he gained masses of experience during his previous stint at Real Madrid. Klopp Beats Lampard To Win Back-to-back EPL Manager Of The Month For Sep


Liverpool boss wins back-to-back awards after continuing his team's perfect start to the season through September.

Jurgen Klopp has won the Barclays Manager of the Month award for the second month in a row.

Klopp claims September's prize after continuing Liverpool's perfect start to the Premier League season and adding to his August accolade.

The German's Premier League leaders won all three matches, with a home victory over Newcastle United followed by away triumphs at Chelsea and Sheffield United, which took the Reds' winning streak in the competition to 16 matches.

The sequence of straight victories was then extended to 17 against Leicester City last weekend, giving Klopp's side the chance to equal Manchester City's competition record of 18 when they visit Manchester United after the international break.

The 52-year-old has now claimed the award for a fifth time.

He topped a four-man shortlist after votes from the public were combined with those of a panel of football experts, beating Eddie Howe, Frank Lampard and Brendan Rodgers.

Wenger: Hazard Isn't Man To Replace Ronaldo, He Won't Score 50 Goals A Season


Arsene Wenger doesn't believe Eden Hazard is the man to replace Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid.

The Belgian is beginning to demonstrate his qualities with Los Blancos after a tough period following his move from Chelsea.

"He will be the answer but not in replacing Ronaldo that is for sure," Wenger told beIN Sports about Hazard.

"He will not score 50 goals a year because that's now how they play football.

"They need another goal scorer in Real Madrid because Benzema is now 32 and if they had someone younger around him to score the goals, maybe they could do very well.

"Eden Hazard is an exceptional player to create chances to sometimes finish when he needs to do in big games.

"He's not scared of anybody - I don't think Real have yet to see the real Hazard, he's not as sharp physically as he can be.

"That's why I believe they will discover the real Hazard."

I Want To Coach Chelsea – Mikel Obi



Former Super Eagles captain and Chelsea midfielder, Mikel Obi, says he will love to return to the London as an assistant to current Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard, once ends his playing career.

In an interview with Trabzonspor magazine, Mikel admitted that he would love a reunion with his former teammate adding that they have both discussed future plans when he retires.

“I’m very happy for him,” Mikel said.

“We knew that Frank Lampard and John Terry would be very important managers, but as teammates we first thought that John Terry would come to this level.

“Frank Lampard took a big step. The fact that the club brought a legendary player to the head of the team was an indication that he was taking great steps towards becoming a family club.

“I met him and wished him success.

“I even told him I was going to be his assistant manager when I retired.

“I hope he will succeed for many years, because it makes me very unhappy to see him leaving Chelsea.”

Mikel left the Stamford Bridge in 2017 to seal a move to Tianjin TEDA in China making a total of 31 appearances scoring three goals in the process.

Isco to leave Real Madrid for new club in January

Real Madrid midfielder, Isco has reportedly decided to leave the club in the January transfer window due to lack of more playing time under manager, Zinedine Zidane.
Isco, who joined Real Madrid in 2013 from Malaga, started only one La Liga game for the Los Blancso this season.

According to Calcio Mercato, the 27-year-old will seek a move away from Real Madrid next year if he continues to miss out on Zidane’s starting XI.
The newspaper reports that Isco wants more playing time in order to be included in his country’s squad for the Euro 2020.
Isco has so far scored 35 goals in 187 appearances for Real Madrid.

The Spain international has also drawn interest from Arsenal in the past few months.
He will hope to start for Real Madrid when they take on Mallorca in the La Liga on October 19.

La Liga champions, Barcelona, have shortlisted four strikers to replace Luis Suarez at the club.
Suarez, who is 32 years of age, is in the later stage of his career at Barcelona.

The Uruguay international has won lots of trophies at Camp Nou since joining Barcelona from Liverpool in 2014.
He has scored over 164 goals in over 220 appearances for Barcelona.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe is the top target to replace Suarez, while Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez props up the list.

The other two strikers are; Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane and Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford

Nigeria are intensifying preparations, ahead of their international friendly against Brazil on Sunday.
The Super Eagles had their first training session on Friday morning, with 21 players involved and head coach Gernot Rohr overseeing it.

The three-time African champions were welcomed by selected children from different sports academies in Singapore, as tweeted by their official handle.
Later in the evening, Rohr’s men gathered for their second training session.
Stoke City midfielder, Oghenekaro Etebo, has pulled out of the game owing to personal reasons.

The Super Eagles will hope to upset the five-time world champions, when they meet at National Stadium in Singapore.

Some Nigerians have reacted to Super Eagles’ 1-1 international friendly draw against Brazil on Sunday.
DAILY POST recalls that the Super Eagles took the lead in the 35th minute, after Joe Aribo danced past several Selecao defenders[url=https://dailypost.ng/2019/10/13/brazil-vs-nigeria-super-eagles-fail-win-singapore/] to slide the ball under Ederson.

However, with barely five minutes gone after the break, the Brazilians drew level.
Real Madrid midfielder, Casemiro, pounced on a defensive mix-up to score for the South Americans.
