Information reaching the Politics Nigeria Newsdesk this afternoon reveals that members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN also known as Shiites stormed the National Assembly earlier today demanding to know the whereabouts of their leader, Shiekh Ibrahim Elzak-zaky.

The Protesters reportedly attacked security officials stationed at the National Assembly, seriously injuring one of the police officers. Politics Nigeria has an exclusive video from the scene;

Protesting members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) Shi’ites, on Tuesday, broke into the National Assembly complex visitors’ car park by the second entrance to the complex.

The protesters broke police barricade after shooting two policemen at the first entry gate (police gate) following a violent encounter with the law enforcement agents.

Shi'ite members invade National Assembly, clash with police (photos)

Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria also known as Shiite invaded the National Assembly Complex Abuja today Tuesday July 9th, throwing stones and injuring three police men.

The protesting Shiite members were demanding the release of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky who hs been in detention since 2015 after the group's clash with members of the Nigerian Army in Zaria, Kaduna state.

Things turned violent when the protesters, who are demanding the release of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, tried to gain entry into the complex. They threw stones and injured three police officers. The protesters forced their way through the first gate near the Federal Secretariat and headed to the main building where they clashed with security operatives.

The injured officers were first taken to the National Assembly hospital and then referred to the National Hospital Abuja for further treatement.
