Daily Devotional for Monday 8th July

Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily (Colossians 1:29).

In our opening verse, Paul refers to the inherent ability, the energy of the Spirit at work in him. This isn’t exclusive to Paul but to each and every one of us that has the Holy Spirit. Like Paul, be conscious of this divine energy at work in you.

It makes no difference what challenges you face in the course of your day; there’s a force—an empowerment—at work in you to blaze through the barriers. It’s the energy of the Spirit. The Apostle Paul referenced this same power in 2 Corinthians 3:5 when he said by the Spirit, “Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God.”

We have a sufficiency; we have the ability of God’s Spirit at work in us, because we have the light of God in us. The Bible says, “…Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27). The power of God is at work in you, coursing through your being. Become conscious of this.

The Apostle Paul was conscious of this divine energy working in him from within. The word he used in our opening verse for “working” is the Greek, “energeia” which refers to superhuman energy. Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, recognized that the “working,” the operational power of God, was in him. What a consciousness!

Have you come to the point in your life where you know and you can say confidently that there’s a superhuman power at work in you? You ought to know. You’re not labouring or striving by your physical might or human ingenuity, but by the energy of the Spirit.

This energy isn’t at work in you sparingly, but mightily, meaning that you can’t wear out! What a life you’ve got! Now you can further understand Paul’s submission by the Spirit in 2 Corinthians 4:16: “For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.”

My potentials are limitless, because I’m divinely endued to live the life of glory, according to God’s mighty power which works in me mightily! With that divine ability working in me, I achieve results that are beyond my physical ability. The Holy Ghost lives in me; He works in me! He carries out His ministry through me! Hallelujah!

Philippians 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of [his] good pleasure.

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Micah 3:8 But truly I am full of power by the spirit of the LORD, and of judgment, and of might, to declare unto Jacob his transgression, and to Israel his sin.

Acts 19:8-41 & Job 15-18

Luke 7:18-35 & Joshua 3-4

And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Ephesians 6:4

READ: 1 Samuel 8:1-5

1And it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel.

2 Now the name of his firstborn was Joel; and the name of his second, Abiah: they were judges in Beersheba.

3 And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted judgment.

4 Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah,

5 And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.

The Bible says children are the heritage of the Lord and the fruit of the womb is His reward (Psalm 127:3). In other words, God is the owner of children, and He gives them to whoever He pleases. Whenever God counts an individual worthy to have custody of His possession, the fellow should be careful of what he or she does with it. For this reason, through His word, God teaches us how to handle children as precious seeds kept in our care. One of His teachings on this all-important subject matter is found in our memory verse, where the Lord says we must train our children in his ways, not according to any other system.

Today’s Bible reading reveals the danger of not taking godly care of our children. As upright as Samuel was, he failed in the area of bringing up his children in the ways of the Lord. Concerning his sons, 1 Samuel 8:3 says:

“And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted judgment.”

The surprising aspect of this story is that Samuel witnessed how Eli and his household were cut off because Eli did not nurture his children in the ways of the Lord. Beloved, it is better a person does not bear a child than to have child and fail to take godly care of him or her. Eli’s example shows that a heavy price accompanies failure in this regard.

The story was told of a mother who immersed himself into training her son to succeed academically and career-wise, but she neglected training in the fear of God and did not expose him to spiritual activities that could connect him to God. Meanwhile, the son progressed at school, graduated with good grades, and eventually got a good job in the city. Having tasted life in the city, he forgot his roots and did not keep in touch with his mother. One day, his mother decided to visit him his mother. One day, his mother decided to visit him I the city, having missed her son for a long time. When she got to her son’s house, she met the gate securely locked. She knocked for a long while before her son managed to open the window of his front room, and behold, it was his mother sweating in the African sun. “Mum, you did not tell me you were coming!” the young man yelled. He then threw a wad of cash at her and told her to go back to the village. This woman wept bitterly. How sad! This is what the wages f nursing a child for ourselves and not for God looks like. I pray that this will not be your portion that this will not be your portion as a parent in Jesus’ Name.

Align the way you are bringing up your children with the principles of God’s

SCRIPTURE: That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises. Hebrews 6:12

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Whose footsteps you follow determines the outcome you experience in life.

A search through the Bible confirms that the Word of God reveals the pathway to the blessing in many ways. One of such pathways to the blessing is following the footsteps of the blessed. The Bible shows us the steps of the blessed which we can follow and experience the same blessed outcome.

The Scripture shows us men and women who inherited the promises; it shows us people who were faithful to God, people who served God faithfully and could not end empty-handedly. It reveals people who were loaded with the blessing, and what they did to attract the blessing, so that if we identify and follow their footsteps, we can also have their results.

For instance, the Bible shows us how Abraham who was a nonentity later turned into a celebrity, and the things he did to trigger such a drastic turnaround in his life. It shows us the life of Isaac, how he followed the footsteps of his father Abraham by obeying the instructions of God, and what became of him, etc.

And the Bible says, So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham (Galatians 3:9). So, if we follow the footsteps of Abraham and other great men in the Scripture or on the earth in contemporary times, we will also have their results.

Beloved, as God’s servant, Bishop David Oyedepo said, “You cannot follow the footsteps of giants and end as a dwarf.” Whose footsteps you follow determines the outcome you experience in life.

Remember this: Whose footsteps you follow determines the outcome you experience in life.

1. Look out for the action steps to follow in every story of great men in the Scripture.

2. Take the action steps, follow their footsteps, and expect their results.

3. Align your mentality with that of great men in Scripture and great children of God in our days.

PRAYER: Lord, give me the grace to uphold the principles of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and other great men of faith. Let me experience their results, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

Share with me the following good report and get ready to pray:

“Praise the Lord! Good Morning Papa. I testify to the glory of God I had been burdened for months with the search of a missing document (an original title document of a landed property) in my office which we used in registering a deed of legal mortgage on behalf of a Nigerian bank.

I knew I had not misplaced the document and was blamed lof it’s loss at the office and this issue would have cost me my job and may have even led to a police investigation.

That was how serious this issue was. I prayed every prayer I knew how to pray and also informed my family members to join me in prayers. I had no peace of mind for months. I felt alone and knew my expectation can only come from God (Psalm 62). During that period, in one of the devotionals, you said we should cancel the loss of a very important document this week.” I prayed that prayer in all honest’ and keyed into all the prayers that was to be prayed by every ODM user all over the world on that day and also promised God an offering Lo and behold, just a few days later, a colleague of mine was searching for a file when she found the document I had been searching for, for months.

My joy knew no bounds. I am still in shock! Glory be to God in the highest! Thank you Dr. Chis. May God continue to bless and keep you. I have also redeemed the pledge I made to God I want this testimony to be published sir but please withhold my name (Erom (names withheld).” Blessed be Jehovah God forever! He is the Prophet of prophets! He is the God that has 7 eyes. He sees all and knows all things concerning your destiny!

In this 14-day fasting programme, the LORD is telling me to announce to you that THERE SHALL BE NO LOSS! And what was lost shall be restored! In today’s scripture, Paul told the troubled ship crew on the high sea of severe turbulence: “And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: FOR THERE SHALL BE NO LOSS of any man’s life among you but of the ship. For there stood by me this night the angel of God whose I am, and whom I serve…” – Acts 27:22-23. Note that he was told that THE SHIP WOULD BE LOST but whatever was CRUCIAL and IRREVERSIBLE COULD NOT AND WOULD NOT BE LOST! Wow! You will NEVER LOSE whatever is crucial irreversible to your destiny!

*Continue this fast and sow your NO NONSENSE SEED” and will get a PROPHETIC PSALM Which You Will Pray For 2 weeks! See page 29 of ODM or page 44 of “War Against Haman -14.” Pray now! Today is Day 2 of the 14-day fasting programme. PRAY THE GENERAL PRAYERS ON PAGE 97 AND PRAYERS ON PAGE 22 OF THE “WAR AGAINST HAMAN-14” BOOKLET.*

Read 2 Samuel 7:8,9

8. Now therefore so shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Israel:
9. And I was with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies out of thy sight, and have made thee a great name, like unto the name of the great men that are in the earth.
MEMORISE: Now therefore, thus shall you say to My servant David, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts: "I took you from the sheepfold, from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people, over Israel'" (2 Samuel 7:8)

Greatness is not an endowment from the devil, as some people presume, but from God. It is almost becoming a theory today that you cannot become "somebody" if you would not eat human flesh and blood. Only that they had been given over to a debase mind (Rm. 1:28). God hates human sacrifice, not to talk of consuming human flesh and blood for any reasons. It is an act of wickedness (cf. Gen. 4:10; Lev. 17:11-14).

Today's text shows that God appreciates the fact that there are men and women He allows to be great among His creatures. No one becomes great by his/her own power, strength or ability (cf. Zech. 4:6). God's grace, glory and greatness make one great (cf. Psa. 75:6).

As part of God's message to David, when He covenanted with him in 2 Sam. 7, He told David, 'I took you from the sheepfold, from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people, over Israel' (v. 8). God made his name to be great, and granted him a place among the mighty in the world. David acknowledged and appreciated this gesture. Imagine a shepherd boy from a lowly and obscure background, rising from the dunghill, to become the king of Israel.

A man who is the very centre of God's will easily enjoys God's greatness. David's regard for God made him very great. Also, Joseph became lord in Egypt, because he feared God. God also made Jesus great for His unmatched obedience to, love for, and loyalty to the Father. Never you be like Sennacherib, Nebuchadnezzar, Betsshassar, and Herod who thought they became 'great' and were sustaining such greatness with their own powers. The almighty God clipped their wings. Humble yourself under God's mighty hand and you shall be highly exalted beyond all imaginations (1 Pet. 5:6).

1. O Lord, help me to wholly give myself to Your will, so that in due season, You will elevate me according to Your eternally good will.
2. Lord, deliver people who have chosen to seek greatness the devil's way.
3. Lord, let Your love and truth saturate the hearts of our leaders and the led in our nation.
