A late Edinson Cavani header gave Uruguay a win over Chile that secured top spot in Copa America Group C and sets up a quarter-final with Peru.
The Paris St-Germain striker glanced in Jonathan Rodriguez's cross in the 82nd minute to decide a hard-fought game.
Luis Suarez missed Uruguay's best chance of the first half, seeing a shot deflected wide with an unmarked team-mate on his shoulder.
It was the sides' first Copa America meeting since a stormy 2015 match.
Four years ago, Cavani was sent off in Uruguay's 1-0 last-eight defeat after reacting to Chile's Gonzalo Jara putting a hand on his buttocks.
Former West Brom and Nottingham Forest defender Jara was subsequently given a three-match ban.

Chile will face Colombia, the only team to have won all three of their games in the tournament, in this year's quarter-finals after being beaten to top spot in the group by Uruguay.
Ecuador bowed out with a 1-1 draw against Japan but coach Hernan Gomez insisted his leadership was not behind his team's failure to make the last eight.
Victory against the invited Japan side would have taken Gomez's side through.
"I'm not handing over my post. Another coach will come in and the same things will happen, they are asking for results when we can't provide them," he said.
"Let's see who explodes first. I don't think I am the problem."

Cameroon Withdraws Joel Tagueu From AFCON Over Life-threatening Heart Defect


The Cameroon national team has withdrawn Joel Tagueu from the AFCON competition, over a life-threatening heart defect. 

Joel Tagueu, the Cameroon national team player who was withdrawn from AFCON over the life-threatening heart defect, plays for Portuguese club Maritimo. Tagueu had an “anomaly in his coronary artery detected by team doctor, William Ngatchou, which risks his life if he were to play,” the Cameroon Football Federation said.

“On the advice of the doctor, the coach (Clarence Seedorf) has decided not to risk the player, who is leaving the tournament. The news was greeted with a lot of sadness in the camp. The staff and the players could not hold back their tears,” the statement added.

#AFCON2019: Super Eagles go on strike in Egypt over unpaid allowances

The Super Eagles are currently on strike in Egypt over unpaid allowances. According to BBC Sports Journalist, Sulaimon Folarin, the footballers who are in Egypt for AFCON2019, have refused to train today June 25th over their unpaid allowances.
 
The footballers say their bonuses for the 1-0 win over Burundi, which comes to $10k per player, is yet to be settled.
 
However, NFF president Amju Pinnick told newsmen in Egypt that they have the Naira value of the bonuses to pay, which the players have refused to accept, because the official conversion rate to USD is lower than the open market rate, which means the players will lose money.
 
The Super Falcons also staged a similar protest after they were knocked out of the ongoing 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France against Germany on Saturday June 22nd.

Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi, has intervened in the bonus row between the players and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the BBC reports.
The players had threatened to boycott training, after the federation failed to pay outstanding bonuses and allowances, following their 1-0 win over Burundi in their first Africa Cup of Nations Group B fixture.

The squad was an hour late for training on Tuesday, before Mikel Obi persuaded the players, to come out and train ahead of tomorrow’s crunch clash against Guinea.
The NFF, which receives its funding from the government, has denied it was responsible for the delay in paying the players’ bonuses.
It is however understood that payments would be paid, before Gernot Rohr’s men take on Syli Stars, looking for a win that will see them qualify for the Round of 16.

Transfer: Barcelona close to signing Griezmann in £107m deal

Barcelona could complete the £107million signing of Antoine Griezmann as early as next week, when his Atletico Madrid release clause decreases, according to The Telegraph.
Griezmann has already gone public with his desire to leave Diego Simeone’s side this summer.

Barca have been leading the race to secure his services, but Paris Saint-Germain are also keen, as well as Manchester United.
But it is understood that the LaLiga champions have won the race to sign Griezmann, who will see his release clause drop to €120m (£107m) from €200m (£178m) on July 1.
The France international has already agreed personal terms with Barca, but the release clause was delaying the move going through.

Griezmann was initially linked with a move to the Nou Camp last summer, but decided to stay at Atletico.

Transfer: Lampard gets three-year deal as Chelsea new manager

Derby County manager, Frank Lampard has been offered a three-year-contract by Chelsea.
This was disclosed by respected transfer expert and sport journalist, Nicolo Schira, who works for Gazzetta dello Sport.

Schira, who made this known on Tuesday through his official Twitter page, wrote: “All confirmed! #DerbyCounty have granted permission for #Chelsea to speak to Frank #Lampard.
“He will be the new manager of #Blues and he will sign a contract until 2022. #transfers #CFC.”
DAILY POST had reported that Lampard could seal a sensational return to Chelsea as manager within the next two days. 

The ex-midfielder maestro has been the overwhelming favourite to replace Maurizio Sarri, who has since been confirmed as the new Juventus boss.
The Chelsea legend has only been Derby manager for a season and narrowly missed out of securing promotion to the Premier League in his first campaign.
He led Derby to the Championship play-off final at Wembley, only for his side to be defeated by Aston Villa.

Paris Saint-Germain superstar, Neymar has finally agreed on a five-year contract with Barcelona.
According to Spanish newspaper, Sport, the 27-year-old has verbally accepted Barcelona’s offer ‘without hesitation’ as he is aware of the high transfer fee that the La Liga champions will need to spend in order to re-sign him from PSG.

Neymar has been consistently linked with a return to Barcelona since joining PSG in 2017 for a world-record deal of £222 million.
The Brazilian international earlier this week revealed his intention to leave PSG for Barcelona in this summer’s transfer window.

“I do not want to play anymore in PSG. I want to go back to my house, where I should never have left,” Neymar told Mundo Deportivo.

He was left out of Brazil’s 2019 Copa Americasquad after rupturing ankle ligaments in a friendly match against Qatar few months ago

Arsenal have signed a new deal with Nigerian players: Ovie Ejeheri and Daniel Oyegoke, ahead of next season.
According to Allnigieriasoccer, the Gunners signed the new deal with Ejeheri and Oyegoke at London Colney on Monday.

Ejeheri is a goalkeeper while Oyegoke is a right-back.
The duo will play for Arsenal’s U18s in the 2019-2020 season.
Arsenal finished outside of the English Premier League top-four last season.

Unai Emery’s side were defeated by Chelsea in the UEFA Europa League final last term.

Vincent Kompany: 'Anderlecht can win Belgian title next season'

Player-manager Vincent Kompany says he is convinced he can lead Anderlecht to the Belgian title next season following their disastrous 2018-19 campaign.

Anderlecht missed out on European football for the first time in 56 years and were raided by police in connection with a money-laundering investigation.

"In one season we have to get better than five other teams," Kompany said at his first news conference.
"But I am convinced that with a few changes we will succeed."

Anderlecht are regarded as the most successful club in Belgian football having won the league 34 times, but they hit near rock bottom last season.
They were also fined and docked points when crowd trouble forced a match at rivals Standard Liege to be abandoned. The club then fired coach Fred Rutten after only 13 games in charge.

Kompany added: "I do not want to choose between playing nice football or becoming champions. I want both.
"I know that I put so much pressure on myself. Let's be very clear, I didn't come here to be second."

The Belgium centre-back made his decision to rejoin the Brussels club after helping Manchester City win the domestic treble. He spent 11 years at Etihad Stadium, and won four Premier Leagues, two FA Cups and four League Cups.

Kompany paid tribute to his former City manager Pep Guardiola, who took over in 2016, and said he had been inspired by the Catalan.

"It was like being at university every day," he said. "He explained everything with such clarity and I learnt an enormous amount from him.
"I am no Guardiola by any means. But I think I was a good student."

Transfer: David Silva confirms plan to leave Manchester City
 


Manchester City playmaker, David Silva, has confirmed that next season will be his last at the club.
Silva is heading into his 10th season with the Premier League champions, having signed with the club from Valencia in 2010.

During that time, the Spaniard won four league titles, two FA Cups and four League Cups.
“This is the last one. Ten years for me is enough. It’s the perfect time.
“Initially the club were talking about two years, but I decided to sign another one so I finished at 10 years.

“It completes the cycle. It’s a nice round figure. I can never see myself playing against City for another team. So 10 years — that’s it.
“I’ve got a family now and it’s about priorities. I want to spend more time with the family. I’ve got another year at Manchester City so we will see what happens after that,” he told the Daily Mail
Silva also make it clear he does not plan to stop playing, though he has ruled out a move to China or to any team that would have to face his current club.

Mourinho finally decides on replacing Benitez as Newcastle manager 


Jose Mourinho has ruled out replacing Rafa Benitez at Newcastle United, because he has no interest in fighting for survival.
The former Chelsea and Manchester United boss has been out of work since December, after he was sacked at Old Trafford.

And the Portuguese has been linked with a Premier League return, as a replacement for old foe Benitez.
Newcastle have confirmed that Benitez will leave, when his contract expires this Sunday.
Toon owner Mike Ashley and managing director Lee Charnley have now been tasked with finding a new manager.

“The only thing that I know is what I don’t want: I am quite pathological in the sense of I have to play to win.
“Then, if I don’t win, then that’s my problem and the players and the club and the structure. But I need a project where the feeling is I play to win.

Andre Gomes made 27 Premier League appearances for Everton last season, scoring one goal
Everton have signed Portugal midfielder Andre Gomes from Barcelona in a £22m deal, after he had a successful loan spell at Goodison Park last season.
The 25-year-old has signed a five-year contract.
Gomes played 29 times in all competitions while on loan with the Toffees last season, scoring one goal.
"I'm really happy to sign the contract with Everton. It wasn't hard to decide, it was an easy decision and I'm very happy to have made it," said Gomes.
"Last year was a really good experience for me. I just wanted to feel part of something special and I found it here."
It is the club's second signing of the summer after securing Huddersfield Town goalkeeper Jonas Lossl on a free transfer.

A man in Iran accused of sleeping with 23 women by pretending to be the Lionel Messi because of their uncanny resemblance has denied conning the women into sleeping with him.

Reza Parastesh, who is known as the Iranian Messi was forced to come forward to deny the allegations on social media after Spanish publication, Marca reported it.

In a video post on Instagram, Parastesh said: 'Hi friends, a piece of false news about me is trending on social media with regards to me sleeping with 23 women because they thought I was Lionel Messi. Please do not play with people's reputation and credibility.

'We are all aware of the fact that if it actually happened to anyone, there would be some complaints and it would lead to my prosecution. That would be a disaster and a calamity of international proportion. If this news was true, I would be in jail right now.'

'Do not believe it, it is not true. I am going to do everything to fight this legally and make sure my name is cleared.'  
'The news is spreading in the Muslim countries and it has been a disaster,' he said. 'I was severely harassed because it released the whole world on me. My family also harassed me, but the people's attack was more influential.'   

Reza who has an uncanny resemblance to the Argentine superstar is reported to have started pursuing a career as a Messi look-alike when his dad suggested he put on a Barcelona shirt to see how much he resembled the Argentine.

Update: Super Eagles call off their strike in Egypt over unpaid allowances





 
Nigeria’s Super Eagles have suspended their training strike over unpaid bonuses at the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt following last-minute intervention by top football officials.  
 
The team finally agreed to train in Alexandria, 30 minutes after schedule, after the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) promised to pay a win bonus from their 1-0 victory over Burundi on Saturday, by the end of the week.  
 
NFF spokesman Ademola Olajire said “the matter has been resolved”, conceding that funds for the tournament had arrived late.

“The NFF received part of the money meant for the tournament today and is in the process of converting it to dollars to pay the players and officials. The only money they’re owed is the win-bonus for the Burundi match” he said. 

The bonuses were expected to be paid by the NFF after Saturday’s game ended. Officials close to the team, who spoke under anonymity, told AFP that following reassurances from the NFF “the team captain spoke to the players, asking them to show some understanding after which the team agreed to train”.  
 
The players had earlier boycotted the official pre-match conference.  Other NFF officials disclosed that the players have been paid a daily training allowance of $200-a-player from June 2 to June 30.

Transfer: Barcelona to land Man Utd defender if De Ligt deal fails
 


Barcelona will make a move for Manchester United defender, Victor Lindelof, should their attempts to sign Matthijs De Ligt fall through, Mundo Deportivo reports.
Lindelof has grown into one of United’s most trusted centre back after impressing last term, following a difficult first season at Old Trafford.

However, the Swede could be prised away should Barca’s number 1 target, 19-year-old De Ligt, opt to sign for Juventus, which has been widely reported in recent weeks.
De Ligt is expected to command a £62million fee.
The 19-year-old back guided Ajax to the Eredivisie title and Champions League semi-final last season, but will leave this summer.

His former team-mate, Frenkie de Jong, has already sealed a £65m move to Barcelona, but De Ligt appears to have rejected the opportunity.

AFCON 2019: Guinea coach names one player that must start against Nigeria, gives reason
 


Head coach of Guinea, Paul Put, has confirmed that Liverpool star, Naby Keita, will start against Nigeria in today’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, tie in Egypt.
Put stated that the midfielder must start against the Super Eagles because the player trained at 200 per cent, adding that the Syli Stars lost three of their matches while preparing AFCON without the 24-year-old.

Guinea head to the match after playing a 2-2 draw with Madagascar last weekend while Nigeria defeated Burundi 1-0.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday in Egypt, Put said: ”You know he had an injury. It was not obvious he participated in the AFCON. We did everything to prepare Naby well.
”He trains at 200%. I think he is physically ready. If he is mentally ready, I think he will start the game.

”Because there is a Syli with Naby Keita and a Syli without him, which we saw during the preparation when Guinea lost all three games without him.”
Nigeria and Guinea have met 17 times in the past, with the Super Eagles winning five, drawing seven and losing five.

Super Eagles of Nigeria are the first team to qualify for the round of 16 at the ongoing African Cup of Nations in Egypt.

A 1 - 0 win against Guinea at the Alexandria Stadium this evening confirmed the Eagles' qualification to the next round after defender Kenneth Omeruo scored the only goal in the match.
 
The Super Eagles who also defeated Burundi1 - 0  last week now have six points in the group stage.

On Sunday, Nigeria will face Madagascar for their final group stage game before going into the round of 16.

Transfer: Manchester United offer Wan-Bissaka 8 times his current wages

Crystal Palace defender, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, is on the verge of joining Manchester United with both clubs close to an agreement.
The deal is believed to be worth £50million and the 21-year-old is imminently set to undergo his medicals with the Old Trafford side.

BBC reports that Wan-Bissaka will sign a long-term contract with United which will see him earn £80,000 a week.
It is a huge increase for the England U-21, who was the lowest-paid Palace player at £80,000 a week.
The fullback is expected to become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-choice right-back as the Norwegian looks to revamp his squad this summer.

United recently looked at other full-back targets such as Max Aarons from Norwich City and Napoli’s Elseid Hysaj, but Wan-Bissaka has always remained their top target and now looks set to join this summer.
