EPL: Mane ‘apologizes’ for leading Liverpool to 2-1 win over Southampton
August 17, 2019
By
Liverpool forward, Sadio Mane, has said “sorry” for helping to lead the team to a 2-1 win over Southampton on Saturday.
Mane broke the deadlock on his latest return to St Mary’s.
The Senegal international then laid the assist for Roberto Firmino to make it 2-0.
Mane left Southampton for Merseyside back in 2016, but still holds fond memories of his time with Southampton.
He told BBC Sport: “I’m sorry it is against my old team and sorry I have to score but I’m wearing a Liverpool shirt now.
“Southampton was a very good step for me, I have big respect for this club.
“It is an amazing place. I learned a lot here and they are very nice people. But it is part of football and you have to deal with it.”

Why We Banned Siasia For Life, By FIFA
World football ruling body FIFA has banned former Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia for life after the ethics committee found him guilty of bribery allegation.
A release Friday by FIFA confirmed that the former international has also been asked to pay a fine of CHF 50,000 ($51,000) about N18.5million.
The former U-23 coach is said to have accepted bribe in relation to the manipulation of matches in violation of the FIFA Code of Ethics.
The hammer is coming in the midst of emotional torture which the former Nantes striker is undergoing following the kidnap of his mother Madam Ogere Siasia.
Siasia’s 93 year old Father only recently raised alarm to security authorities even as he made passionate appeal to the kidnappers to release his wife who has been in their custody close to a month now.

The latest development means that Siasia who turned 52 on Wednesday will not only worry about the travails of his mother in the hands of kidnapperexo about the way forward for his football/coaching career.
The FIFA release Friday read thus;
“The adjudicatory chamber of the independent Ethics Committee has found Mr Samson Siasia, a former official of the Nigeria Football Federation, guilty of having accepted that he would receive bribes in relation to the manipulation of matches in violation of the FIFA Code of Ethics.
The formal ethics proceedings against Mr Siasia were initiated on 11 February 2019 and stem from an expensive investigation into matches that Mr Wilson Raj Perumal attempted to manipulate for betting purposes. This large-scale investigation was conducted by FIFA via its competent departments and in cooperation with the relevant stakeholders and authorities.
In its decision, the adjudicatory chamber found that Mr Siasia had breached art. 11 (Bribery) of the 2009 edition of the FIFA Code of Ethics and banned him for life from all football-related activities (administrative, sports or any other) at both national and international level. In addition, a fine in the amount of CHF 50,000 has been imposed on Mr Siasia. The decision was notified to Mr Siasia today, the date on which the ban comes into forces.

Transfer: PSG ready to agree loan deal for Neymar
on
August 18, 2019
By
Ifreke Inyang [/url]
Paris Saint-Germain are open to the idea of a loan deal for Neymar with an obligation to buy, Goal reports.
Neymar is yet to play for the Ligue 1 champions this season after indicating that he wants to leave.
Barcelona and Real Madrid have so far failed to land the Brazilian, with PSG looking to recoup most of the €222million they paid for him two years ago.
PSG have also rejected any prospective cash-plus-players deal.
Now, however, with the European transfer deadline looming and the prospect of an expensive player refusing to take to the field for the first half of the season, sporting director, Leonardo Arajuo, and coach Thomas Tuchel are expected to hold sit-down talks with the player over his future.
PSG are receptive to the idea of loaning the 27-year-old out with a subsequent obligation to buy, which would carry a price tag roughly in the region of €220m (£201m/$244m) to €250m (£228m/$277m).

EPL: FA told to abolish VAR after Man City’s 2-2 with Tottenham
on
August 18, 2019
Veteran English journalist, Piers Morgan has called on the English FA to abolish the Video Assistant Referee following one of its major decisions during Tottenham’s 2-2 draw with Manchester City on Saturday.
The controversial incident occurred very late in the Manchester City and Tottenham clash at the Etihad stadium.
Tottenham did well to respond twice after going behind to Pep Guardiola’s back-to-back champions.
However, in the dying moments of the game, Gabriel Jesus appeared to have scored the winning goal to snatch all of the three points for City.
But that goal was ruled out as Spurs secured a big point.
“VAR sucks. Let’s get rid of it before it ruins football,” Morgan tweeted.

Myself and other Super Eagles players used to sneak girls into Eagles camp back then- Pastor Taribo West confesses
Taribo West, the very talented Super Eagles defender, has disclosed how himself and some of his Super Eagles teammates used to sneak women, both local and foreign, into camp during national assignments.
Taribo who has since become a Pastor, disclosed this in an interview with Sports Extra.
Quote:“Sometimes we (the players) will import ladies from other countries and keep them in different hotels. As the competition progressed, more ladies would keep coming and going. It’s something we all did but my teammates won’t talk about it. I can talk about it now because I’ve given my life to Christ.
We normally kept the girls in different locations, but once everyone was asleep, around 2am, we would bring them into our hotel rooms. It happened in every tournament we competed in, from the Africa Cup of Nations to the World Cup.
We had a teammate who the other players waited for to bring in his girl first, because he always had fine women. Once we saw the shape and height of his girl, we would call our own boys to go out and negotiate for girls more beautiful than this player’s own. It was more like a competition for women amongst us then. We had crazy guys in the team but there was discipline, that’s why we had to sneak the ladies into camp.” he said

Ronaldo Missing As Fifa Nominate Messi, Zlatan For 2019 Puskas Award
Juventus superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo, was conspicuously missing from the list of nominees for the 2019 Puskas Award, with goals by Barcelona icon Lionel Messi and former Manchester United striker, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, among the top 10 nominations.
Ronaldo had scored a sensational volley against former club, Manchester United, in the UEFA Champions League last season, but it was not good enough to get him a place in the final 10 list of goals in contention for the coveted Puskas Award.
The 34-year-old Portugal international previously won the award in 2009 for his long range strike for Manchester United in a 1-0 win over FC Porto in the Champions League.
Messi on his part has made the list thanks to his audacious lob from just inside the box in a La Liga match against Real Betis, with the Argentina international ending the game with a hat-trick.
Meanwhile, Ibrahimovic has been nominated for his 500th career goal scored in acrobatic fashion against Toronto in a Major League Soccer (MLS) match in September 2018.
The goal scored for LA Galaxy in a 5-3 win saw the Swede join Ronaldo and Messi as the only active football stars to reach the 500-goal milestone.

EPL: Arsenal owners set Premier League title target for Unai Emery
Josh Kroenke, has said that the club is aiming to win the Premier League in the coming years.
The Gunners finished in fifth place last term under Unai Emery, 28 points behind champions Manchester City.
The club has not won the title since 2004, when the Invincibles claimed it.
Josh, who is the deputy chairman of Arsenal owners Kroenke Sports and Entertainment (KSE), told BBC Sports: “Our ambitions are the same as the fans.
“We want to win and we want to win as much and as often as possible. And doing it a fun way, where they’re seeing some really entertaining football as well. I think we’ve got the group to do it.
“We have the highest of ambitions. In North America, we are trying to win. The [Los Angeles] Rams were in the Super Bowl last year. I can only imagine what a Champions League final is like after being over in Baku.
“There are six great clubs in the Premier League and unfortunately only four [Champions League] spots that are guaranteed. The economics involved – to be able to reinvest back into the club, attract different players who only want Champions League football… our goal is to get back and to win the Premier League.”

EPL: Carragher slams Lampard, reveals ‘shocking’ Chelsea player
Former Liverpool captain, Jamie Carragher, has slammed Frank Lampard and his Chelsea team, following a poor start to the Premier League season.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher clamed “it’s like a basketball game” when they play.
The Blues are yet to win under Lampard, after losing 4-0 to Manchester United in their opening fixture and drawing 1-1 with Leicester City last weekend.
“What would worry him [Lampard] most is that it’s like watching a basketball game. People keep talking about them being naive.
“They have got no organisation in possession.
“Every clip I look at there is a 40 square by 40 square of space. They are not organised in an attack.
“It’s too easy to get out, that’s why it becomes a basketball game,” Carragher said.
The former England international also singled out Willian as a ‘shocking’ player, following the draw against the Foxes.
“Towards the end of the game they should have lost really.
“If Frank had another sub, I think he would have brought him [Willian] off. He was shocking,” Carragher added.

EPL: What Pogba, Rashford discussed before penalty miss in Man United 1-1 draw with Wolves
Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba had a discussion before the Frenchman took the spot kick in Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Wolves on Monday night.
The 21-year-old who scored a penalty against Chelsea last week, wanted to take the spot kick against Wolves but at same time, didn’t want to offend Pogba.
According to Mirror, Rashford had asked Pogba if he wanted to take the kick, and the former Juventus star said ‘yes’.
Then Rashford patted the Frenchman on the back, picked the ball and gave it to him.
United could have secured victory at Molyneux but Pogba missed the penalty.
The World Cup winner saw his spot kick saved by Wolves stopper Rui Patricio as United played out a 1-1 draw at Molyneux.
It was the second penalty awarded to the Red Devils this season.
Pogba had gone down under a foul from Connor Coady in the box, prompting referee Jonathan Moss to point to the spot.
Despite the Frenchman’s powerful effort though, Patricio was equal to it, forcing a share of the spoils between the two sides.

Our lawyers have started reviewing FIFA’s life ban on Samson Siasia – NFF
The Nigeria Football Federation has disclosed that its lawyers have started to review the decision against former Nigeria player and coach Samson Siasia by the FIFA Ethics Committee, which on Friday announced that it had placed a life ban from all football-related activities on Siasia.
Acting President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi, himself a lawyer of more than three decades at the bar, said on Monday that the Federation had already reached out to the former U20, U23 and Super Eagles head coach and is aware that he is receiving appropriate legal advice.
Quote:“The NFF was shocked to learn of the investigation and subsequent decision by the FIFA Ethics Committee (Adjudicatory Chamber) placing a life ban on Mr. Samson Siasia. But we have however now received documents, including one known as the Motivated Decision, and we have handed them to our lawyers to study and provide legal advice to the Federation.
“It is a massive sanction on one of our legends. Siasia is a fooball legend but most importantly he is a Nigerian. We must therefore be interested in the matter and be properly advised.”
Akinwunmi added: “Siasia gave his all for Nigeria, playing for the U20 team right from his secondary school days and then for the senior team for several years, and also coaching the U20 and U23 teams and the Super Eagles.
While we respect the FIFA processes and appreciate that an investigation was conducted prior to the decision, the least we as a Federation can do is empathise with him at this time, make ourselves available to him and hope that in some way he is able to clear his name as he has promised to do.”

Anthony Joshua speaks on sacking trainer ahead of Andy Ruiz rematch
British boxer, Anthony Joshua, has lashed out at people who have advised him to sack his trainer, Rob McCracken and called such suggestions “shallow-minded, small-minded”.
Joshua plans to regain the IBF, WBA and WBO heavyweight titles that were lost to Andy Ruiz Jr in a rematch on December 7, with McCracken still by his side.
Asked on AJ: The Untold Truth about calls for him to find a new trainer, Joshua said: “Whoever said that is a clown. Part ways with McCracken? No way. These people don’t understand loyalty.
“These people aren’t cut from the same cloth, if that’s what they are suggesting.
“Whoever has that mindset should not bother talking to me, if they have that mindset.
“How could they say that? I’ve worked with two people in boxing – Sean Murphy, my trainer [at Finchley amateur gym]. Then a year-and-a-half later I was up to Sheffield training with Rob McCracken.
“They have built me, aside from boxing, as the man I am today. A father, a family man, a businessman who understands the responsibility of being a young African-British kid. They built that in me.
“You can’t take that away. You can take the belts away – they will be gone when I retire. The man that they built? You can’t take that away.
“The man that will help to inspire my kids and other kids? You can’t take that away.
“I should never get rid of those types of people. Because I lost the belts I should get rid of the people that built me? No way.
“It’s shallow-minded, small-minded.
“Mike Tyson could have lost to anyone but you can’t get rid of [his trainer] Cus D’Amato. People do not truly understand what these people mean to your life.”

EPL: Lampard blocks Chelsea midfielder from leaving Stamford Bridge
Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard, has blocked Tiemoue Bakayoko’s exit, RMC Sport reports.
Bakayoko would like to return to Monaco, but the Blues do not believe the Ligue 1 side’s offer of a loan, is good enough to sanction the deal.
The French midfielder won the league with Monaco and battled to the semi-finals of the Champions League before leaving for Stamford Bridge, but his time in London has not gone well.
Bakayoko, who cost Chelsea £40million, played just 185 minutes in Chelsea’s pre-season programme and Lampard is looking for a way to offload the 24-year-old.
If Monaco are unable to do a deal for him, it is understood that will turn their attention to Southampton’s Mario Lemina.

Transfer: Barcelona offer PSG €190m deal for Neymar
Barcelona have offered Paris Saint-Germain a €190million deal for Neymar, ESPN reports.
It is understood that PSG have rejected the bid, which would see Neymar return to the Camp Nou on loan.
Barca offered an upfront sum of €40m cash for the loan, with a future obligation of €150m to sign the Brazilian star permanently next summer.
PSG’s Qatari owners have been disappointed by the attitude of Neymar this summer and are ready to let him leave.
But the Ligue 1 champions will only sanction a move, if they can recoup as much of the €222m they spent to bring him to Paris from Barcelona in the summer of 2017.
They also believe that Barcelona will not be able to pay the transfer fee in one lump sum next summer, should they make the move permanent and would ask to pay in annual installments, which is not ideal for the French club.
