I hope they temper justice with mercy - Georgina Onuoha reacts to Naira Marley's arraignment
Actress Georgina Onuoha has reacted to Monday May 20th arraignment of singer, Naira Marley.
In a post she shared on Instagram, Georgina stressed that she does not in anyway condone fraud but however appealed to the court to temper justice with mercy.
She added that she wishes the EFCC would arrest politicians that have been proven to embezzle the National treasury same way they arrested Naira Marley. Read her post below
Quote:I don’t know this young man.
I believe everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
I condemn any form of crime.
I condemn cyber crimes
My family have been victims of frauds and the pain caused is always palpable.
That being said, I hope our young men and women will begin to do the needful by speaking up and standing up to their elected officials and demand better governance and accountability so we can eradicate this pandemic “ scam” ravaging our society and image locally and internationally.
Please guys, the time and talent wasted in cybercrime and other forms of crime can be used well.
Nigerian youths deserve better from their government. What happened in Sudan and Arab spring will come to our shores if our elected officials and politicians don’t begin to address the hunger, poverty and joblessness amongst Nigerian youths.
I don’t know this young and I pray for him that they tamper justice with mercy.
@officialefcc , I will be more than glad if you start arresting our politicians who are looting our National treasury this way.
I hope you show this same show of force to the cabals causing untold hardship on the Nigerian citizenry.
I hope you hold every criminal in Nigeria accountable like this.
If you use this amount of security and force on this young man according to your policy and procedures, I hope every politician and public office holders who steal from our treasury will be treated like this , so that equal justice will be served under the law.
Our society is so corrupt and sadly, the legal system works differently depending on your social political status.

#NairaMarley: Stop justifying fraud and cyber-crime- actress Foluke Daramola tells Nigerians (video)
Following the arrest and arraignment of singer, Naira Marley on allegations of fraud and cybercrime, actress Foluke Daramola has appealed to Nigerians to desist from justifying the alleged crime committed by the singer.
In a video she posted on her Instagram page this morning, Foluke said the fact that there is no money in circulation does not in anyway justify anyone commiting crime just to make money. According to her
Quote:''Sometimes I wonder how our people think. One thing I want us to know is that two wrongs don't make a right. Just because there is no money in the country, there is no work does not justify corruption, does not justify evil. Because our politicians are doing it does not make it right for us to do it. It is really sad when we try to paint bad as good. I don;t want to mention names and I am not going to tag anybody. We should under stand the implications, the depth of what we do''.

Why EFCC Is Prosecuting Naira Marley – Magu
Ibrahim Magu, the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday spoke on prosecution of popular musician, Afeez Fashola, aka Naira Marley.
A statement by EFCC spokesman, Tony Orilade, quoted Magu as saying Naira Marley was picked up over internet fraud charges and not because he is a musician.
He said: “Let me use this opportunity to emphasize that we have no issues with any member of this very important sector of the country.
“I have said it in the past and I will also like to restate, that the EFCC does not go after any innocent person. Our mandate is to rid Nigeria of any form of economic and financial crimes, and internet fraud is not excluded.
“There is always intelligence report that our officers get and investigate before effecting a warrant of arrest, and we don’t arrest innocent people”.
He noted that the concern for the increasing cases of internet fraud, prompted him early in the year, to constitute a Task Team given the task to stem the tide of internet fraud in the country.
“This Task Team has since swung into action, and the outcome of what you have is the increasing cases and report of EFCC operatives rounding up internet fraudsters across the country,” he added.
He, however, noted with concern that “I don’t like arresting them, but what can we do, we have to do our job.
“While I restate our commitment to continue the intensity of rounding up internet fraudsters, I strongly urge you all to join hands with the EFCC to promote the culture and gospel of hard work with dignity”.

Naira Marley Granted Bail After 10 Days In Custody
The Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi has granted singer Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley bail.
At the resumed bail application, his lead defense counsel Olalekan Ojo for the singer apologized for his absence at the initial arraignment on May 20 due to heavy down poor.
Ojo urged the court to accept the bail application Prima Facie based on the presumption of his innocence in accordance with Section 162 (1)
The defense also pleaded that a liberal approach is taken in hearing the bail application.
The prosecution counsel, led by Rotimi Oyedepo, however, argued that it is not the temporary release of the singer that mattered but the final judgment.
He, therefore, urged the court to grant accelerated hearing rather than bail.
He added that since the lawyer of the defendant said the defendant is a celebrity, then his actions and inactions have a multiplier effect on youths in the entire federation.
Justice Nicholas Oweibo who presided over the bail hearing after listening to the defense and prosecution arguments granted the singer bail to the sum of two million naira, two sureties.
The trial has been adjourned to 22, 23 and 24 of October for accelerated hearing.

Reacting to the allegation, his management in a post shared on his Instastories this morning, said there are sureties already on ground to sign his bail but the delay in releasing the singer is because the antigraft agency, EFCC, needs to verify the information provided by the sureties and this takes time.
