Vigilante member allegedly kills driver in Kwara over N5,000 bribe






A father has died after he was allegedly shot dead by a vigilante member.
 
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening, April 28, in Eyenkorin, outskirts of Ilorin, Asa local government area of Kwara state.
 
A local vigilante member identified as Sule who was hired by Eyenkorin community, allegedly shot a commercial driver named Idowu because he refused to part with N5,000 bribe.
 

 
It was gathered that Idowu was returning from a trip to Ibadan, Oyo State, in defiance of the current COVID-19 lockdown when Sule and his colleagues stopped the driver at Eyenkorin, demanding to be paid the sum of N5,000, which the driver reportedly resisted.
 
It was gathered that the development led to an argument and the vigilante reportedly shot ldowu on the chest.
 
Sule was said to have taken to his heels with his family after committing the crime.
 
The deceased has been deposited at the General Hospital Ilorin morgue after a complaint was lodged with the police by the family of the deceased.
 
Idowu, who had recently survived a ghastly auto crash, is survived by his three-month-old son, wife, and an aged mother.
 

 
Speaking on the incident, the state police command spokesperson, Ajayi Okasanmi said that the local vigilante officer is on the run, adding that the community association that engaged the local vigilante member has been invited.
 
Mr Okasanmi said that investigation is ongoing on the matter.

COVID-19: Kwara Police arrests local hunter for allegedly killing commercial bus driver

A local hunter, Suleiman Tajudeen is now in police net for the alleged killing of a commercial bus driver at Eiyenkorin, some few kilometres to Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

According to police report, “the commercial bus reportedly driven by one Hammed Idowu, now late, coming to Ilorin through a bush path in order to avoid police checkpoint at Eiyenkorin as a result of the Covid-19 lockdown in the State, was intercepted inside the bush path by a local hunter named Suleiman Tajudeen, employed by the Alagbado community, at Eiyenkorin.”
The report said “altercation between the victim who was the driver and the hunter led to the shooting to death of the driver by the hunter.”

The Kwara Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ajayi Okasanmi said the State Police Commissioner, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, has directed the state Criminal Investigation Department to take up the investigation of the matter.

DAILY POST gathered that attempts by some aggrieved colleagues of the late driver to stage a protest was nipped in the bud. Calm was restored in the area by security operatives.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased driver, aged 34, was buried on Wednesday, at the Ilorin Muslim cemetery.
