Abike Dabiri, chairman of the National Diaspora Commission has said that eight Nigerians have been executed by the Saudi Arabian government over drug-related offences.
Daily Trust reports that Dabiri revealed this on Tuesday, April 2 at the State House while also speaking about the execution of a Nigerian woman in the same country for drug trafficking.
Dabiri lamented the execution of the Nigerian woman which took place on Monday, April 1.
She also revealed that 20 other Nigerians were on death row in Saudi Arabia awaiting execution over drug offence.
Dabiri appealed to the Saudi Arabian authorities to ensure that the Nigerians on death row are given a fair hearing.
She described the five Nigerians involved in an armed robbery case in Dubai, “as disgrace to Nigeria” and urged the people to be good ambassadors of their country
Meanwhile, It was reported that two sisters were recently arrested for attempting to smuggle drugs into Kuje Medium Security Prison. The sisters reportedly tried to smuggle Indian hemp and Tramadol.
According to Punch, one Blessing Chinwuba allegedly concealed the hard substances in a carton of well packaged Indomie wraps. Chinwuba was arrested by a police officer at the prison’s gate.
The young lady was said to be taking the pack of Indomie to one of the inmates, John Ifeanyichukwu, when she was nabbed on Tuesday, January 22. Her arrest was confirmed by the FCT prison service command spokesman, Humphrey Chukwuedo.
