A university student has been praised for her work scraping dried candle wax left behind after a vigil for Christchurch.
Julia Prendergast worked until her hands ached, cleaning up the steps at the State Library of Victoria.
Earlier in the week hundreds of Victorian Muslims and supporters had gathered to remember the victims of terrorist attacks at two mosques in New Zealand.

Ms Prendergast, a Monash University art student, had volunteered to help clear the steps as she will use the wax her her latest art project
Ms Prendergast, a Monash University art student, had volunteered to help clear the steps but she has admitted it wasn't a completely selfless act.
'I got permission from the Islamic Council of Victoria to collect the wax today for an art project I'm working on,' she said on Reddit.
Ms Prendergast, who was born in New Zealand but lives in Melbourne, is working on a piece that will be an ongoing memorial.
She hopes her art piece will ensure moments, space, and events that need to be remembered don't simply become archived, she said.
'I'm hoping to create vinyl records with the debris I've collected, mixed with resin and other materials, so that these moments can be held, played, and honoured.'
She requested permission first as she did not want to take anything that was not meant to be taken.

People have taken to social media to praise her after a picture of her scraping the steps was shared on Reddit.
'That is amazing and you're amazing best of luck with your endeavours and can't wait to hopefully see something beautiful come of your efforts,' one person said.
'You're the hero we need but don't deserve,' another person said.
'What an absolutely amazing idea, I really can't wait to see the end product. It's quite empathetic of you to know this needs to be preserved too.'
