A man identified as George Daniel took to Facebook to share the sad of his
friend,Jumbo Ogah,a Civil Defense staff who was beaten to death by police.Read the story he shared below.....

'YESTERDAY NIGHT I got a call that JUMBO OGAH was beaten to death by the police. It was unbelievable. You see, I spent four years in Bayero University Kano with Jumbo. We were in the same class and the same room for almost three of this four years. He knew almost everyone in my family. In fact the last job he was doing before he joined NSCDC was with my senior brother of which I introduced him to back then.

JUMBO OGAH was an Assistant Superintendent of Civil Defense Corps. He was wearing Uniform, taking his two children to school, with his wife inside the car. In a hurry to catch up so that his children don’t get there late, he followed one way and the police stopped him. He tried to explain but they dragged him out of his vehicle and started beating him with baton. They took him to their police station and beat him to death. He was wearing NSCDC uniform.

I have informed some of our room mates about this happening and no one believes it but this is real. They killed him in front of his wife and children. Nigeria is really hopeless.

I remember visiting his mother many years ago during one of my visit to OTUKPO. He was a carbon copy of his mom. Anytime I remember her I laugh. She concluded I am not Idoma because she taught I had Hausa accent.

How can you beat a man to death in front of his wife and children? Not just any man, an NSCDC man in uniform.

Now I am very scared of this country. I don’t feel safe. It is not safe. In the broad day light the police beat him to death, in front of his wife and children, Jumbo Ogah, Jumbostic, this is someone that I knew and have lived with and someone who knew me. This is the dream Nigeria that he is serving gave him as a gift, death'

Policemen Dragged Ogah Jumbo, My Husband Till He Died – NSCDC Officer’s Widow

Ada, the wife of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps officer, Ogah Jumbo, who was allegedly beaten to death by two traffic wardens in Nyanya, Abuja, on Wednesday, has said the deceased was dragged on the ground till he died.

Ada stated that her husband sustained broken fingernails and bruises on his toes when he was dragged on the ground by the traffic wardens, who assaulted him.

The widow told a Punch correspondent onThusday that the traffic wardens hit Ogah on the head several times with batons after which he was dragged on the ground for about a kilometre to the police station where he gave up the ghost.

It was learnt that the Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Bala Ciroma, had ordered the detention of the police personnel involved in the incident.

The wife, who witnessed the encounter alongside her two children, refuted reports that her husband was driving against the traffic.

According to her, the late Assistant Superintendent of the NSCDC, who was attached to the Sharia Court in Abuja, was taking her to the Gloryland International School, Karu, where she works as a teacher, when the incident happened.

She said, “We were going to Karu from New Nyanya, but on getting to the Catholic church, we diverted. A traffic warden stopped the vehicles on the other side and asked vehicles on our side to move, but when it got to our turn, he stopped our car and my husband pleaded with him that he was late for work.

“The traffic warden retorted that it was not his business, because he was not the cause of the traffic jam. He stood in front of the vehicle and said my husband wanted to hit him with the car.

“He kicked the vehicle and went to the driver’s side and was pulling my husband out of the vehicle. His (the traffic warden’s) colleague, Mr Idoko, also joined him and they were beating my husband with batons. I alighted from the vehicle and pleaded with them.

“They (traffic wardens) dragged my husband on the ground to their station. If you see his body in the mortuary, you will notice that his fingernails were chopped off and he bled to death.”

Ada added that while her husband was being taken away by the policemen, she went back to the vehicle to fetch the car key and his phones.

“By the time I got to their station, I found my husband sitting on the ground and unable to talk. All the policemen were insulting him, saying, ‘You are a stupid man; we hate civil defence corps officers, they are too stubborn’. They killed my husband in my presence, leaving me to cater for two children alone,” she noted.

The teacher explained that the policemen were not willing to take Ogah to the hospital, on the excuse that their vehicles had no fuel, adding that the deceased was not accepted at the Nyanya General Hospital, where they eventually took him to after a long delay.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the FCT Command, Ciroma, has visited the NSCDC office to commiserate with the operatives over Ogah’s death.

The NSCDC spokesman, David Akinbinu, said in a statement that the CP disclosed that the errant policemen had been detained, adding that investigation had also commenced.

Update: Two police traffic wardens arraigned in court for the death of ex-NSCDC official, Ogar Jumbo

Two police traffic wardens, TW GII Idoko Sunday and TW GII Katdel Dabit, were today April 17th, charged to court for complicity in the death of a staff of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), ASC Ogah Jumbo
Recall that on Wednesday March 20th, LIB shared a report of how Ogah was allegedly attacked and beaten up by police officers along Nyanya Highway in Abuja, for driving against traffic. It was alleged that Ogah died at the scene where he was attacked. Read here.
The police however denied this allegation, saying that Ogah died after he left the Nyanya police station where he was dragged to by the traffic wardens. Read here
A statement released by the force today April 17th, says the former Traffic Wardens had earlier been subjected to the internal disciplinary procedures of the Force and were tried in an Orderly Room, and dismissed before the arraignment.
The Police investigations positively indicted them for assault and excessive use of force on the deceased after his arrest. Forensic Analysis by a pathologist as seen in the autopsy report, clearly traced the cause of death to injuries inflicted on the deceased during his encounter with the Traffic Wardens.
According to the statement, the autopsy report states in part that the death;
Quote:i. was due to blunt force injury to the head
ii. multiple skin and soft tissue injuries on the fore head and face, and that
iii. there was no natural disease in the body to sufficiently explain the sudden death
The statement added that the IGP enjoins the Public not to lose faith in the Force, reiterating his earlier assurances that, under his watch, no form of impunity or “man’s inhumanity to man” will go unpunished. The police chief warns that like these indicted traffic wardens, any Police Officer found wanting for unlawful use of Force and other sundry offences, will be publicly named, shamed and brought to book to serve as deterrent to others.
Meanwhile, the two erstwhile Traffic Wardens have been remanded in Kuje Prisons pending the next adjournment of the case.

She Said:

"You will die! You will never know peace. Your children will die. You will not go scotfree. Your wife will die even the one that is pregnant when she is giving birth!" she said.

At this point, a sister of one of the accused decided to reply to her and a brawl broke out between families of the accused and the bereaved.

Recall that Mr. Ogar Jombo, an officer of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ( NSCDC ) was beaten to death in the presence of his wife and children by two police officers for alleged violation of traffic rules at Nyanya in Abuja on March 20.
