Antonio Conte appointed as Inter Milan new manager

Inter Milan have appointed former Chelsea coach, Antonio Conte as the club’s new manager.

The Serie A giants confirmed the appointment of Conte in a statement posted on the club’s official website on Friday morning.

Conte was appointed as Inter’s new coach following the departure of Luciano Spalletti on Thursday.

“Determined and ambitious, Antonio Conte is now beginning his Inter adventure,” the statement reads.
“Right here before us, we have two entities with the same objective and outlook – that is to win. Head, heart and legs are the three words which sum up Conte’s career.”

Asisat Oshoala joins Barcelona ladies on permanent basis, pens three-year contract till 2022



 


 

Asisat Oshoala has signed up with Barcelona Ladies from Chinese club Dalian Quanjian on a three-year parmanent contract, Completesports.com reports.
 
Oshoala, 24, spent the second half of the 2018-19 season on loan with Barcelona Ladies from Dalian Quanjian. The Nigeria international scored eight goals in 11 games in all competitions for the Blaugrana.
 
She also scored the only goal in Barcelona Ladies’ 4-1 defeat to Olympic Lyon in the UEFA Women’s Champions League final in Budapest this month.
 
The forward won the Chinese Women’s Super League title with Dalian Quanjian in 2017. Oshoala was also part of the Arsenal Ladies side that won the the English FA Cup crown in the 2015/2016 season.
 
On the international scene, she has won three Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Cup with the Super Falcons. The former Rivers Angels star is expected to feature for Nigeria at the next month’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.

Jose Mourinho has played down the impact of his sack from Manchester United, saying it was “nothing I didn’t expect” and that he “didn’t need time to recover”.

The Portuguese coach was dismissed by United in December, after falling 19 points behind then-league leaders, Liverpool.

During his three-year stay at Old Trafford, Mourinho spent nearly £400million on 11 players and failed to compete for the Premier League title.

Now, Mourinho has dismissed any notion of the sacking having any lasting impact on him, insisting that he didn’t need time to recover from the job loss.
“I didn’t need to recover from anything. What happened was nothing I didn’t expect.

“I didn’t need time to recover. I’ve been using the time to work on my future, to improve my technical staff, to find a new dimension to my work, without obviously losing what I am.

“It was me who, being as I am and thinking as I think, got to where I am. But my work has been at that level. I want to be better, I want to readapt, I want to reformulate myself and that’s what I’ve been doing,” Mourinho told Eleven Sports.

Sadio Mane has revealed that he came “really, really close” to joining Manchester United in 2016, even meeting Louis van Gaal, before deciding to join their fierce rivals, Liverpool.

The Senegal forward has since established himself as a key component in Jurgen Klopp’s side after his £34million transfer three years ago.

Having caught the eye with his lightning speed and eye for goal at St Mary’s, there were plenty of suitors and United saw their transfer target snapped up from under their nose by Liverpool.

“Yes, I was really, really close because I even met up with them. So I was coming, I was there and I spoke with the boss who was there before (Van Gaal).

‘”They made an offer, but in the same week, Klopp called me. He said: “I think it’s the right club. The right coach for me, and I think it’s better that I go to Liverpool’.

“For me I think it was the right time as well. I said, “I am going to Liverpool,” Mane told the UK Mirror.

The jersey number of Chelsea ace, Eden Hazard at Real Madrid has surfaced.

According to The Sun, Hazard will be wearing the famed No. 7 shirt at Real Madrid when his switch to Santiago Bernabeu is finally confirmed.

The Belgian captain will be wearing the No. 7 shirt which belonged to forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, before he left the club for Juventus last summer. The No. 7 shirt is currently under the ownership of Mariano Diaz.

Hazard is keen to join Real Madrid after he said “goodbye” to Chelsea fans, following their Europa League victory against Arsenal and is expected to put pen to paper with the La Liga giants within the next week.

It is believed that Real Madrid will pay up to £115million for the 28-year-old forward.

Speaking after Chelsea’s Europa League 4-1 win in Baku on Wednesday night, Hazard told reporters: “I’ve made my decision and I told Chelsea two weeks ago.

“I’m just waiting on both clubs to decide now.
“I think it’s a goodbye. I’ve done this for 7 years and now it’s time for a new challenge.”

Hazard is set to earn around £400,000-a-week at the Los Blancos, which tops the £300,000-a-week offer he had on the table from Chelsea.

Breaking: Former Arsenal, Real Madrid and Sevilla footballer, Jose Antonio Reyes killed in a car accident at the age of 35






Former Arsenal football player, Antonio Reyes died this morning June 1st in a car accident. His current Spanish club, Sevilla confirmed the news this morning with a tweet that reads, 'we couldn't be confirming worse news. Beloved Sevilla star José Antonio Reyes has died in a traffic collision. Rest in peace'.

Late Antonio Reyes was the youngest player in Sevilla history to make his debut for the club, making his first appearance for the club at just 16-years-old.
 
Former club Espanyol joined the legions of supporters paying tribute.  "From RCD Espanyol we wish to express our heartfelt condolences and send all our support to the family and to those at Sevilla."

Breaking: Andy Ruiz Jr. knocks out Anthony Joshua in the 7th round to become world heavyweight champion



 



Andy Ruiz Jr. has defeated British title-holder Anthony Joshua in the seventh round of their fight in New York to become the first Mexican-American heavyweight world champion.  
 
Joshua, previously undefeated, was defending his IBF, WBA and WBO titles but was knocked down four times before underdog Ruiz was awarded a technichal knockout.
 
Ruiz, 29, a native of southern California, became the first boxer of Mexican descent to win a heavyweight title as he captured Joshua's IBF, WBA and WBO titles with excessive force and heart. The upset was arguably the biggest within the division since Hasim Rahman stopped Lennox Lewis in 2001 and brought back memories of James "Buster" Douglas' 1990 win over Mike Tyson.

"I just want to thank God for giving me this victory. Without him this wouldn't have been possible. This is what I have been dreaming about. This is what I have been working hard for, and I can't believe I just made my dreams come true" Ruiz said.

'I'm sorry I let my friends and supporters down' - Anthony Joshua reacts after shocking defeat to Andy Ruiz Jr.









The sold-out crowd in New York which was largely in favor of Anthony Joshua were left stunned and silent when the champion was knocked out in the 7th round of last night's bout by  Andy Ruiz Jr..

 

Joshua, previously undefeated, was defending his IBF, WBA and WBO titles but was knocked down four times before underdog Ruiz was awarded a technichal knockout.

 

Reacting after the match, Joshua said, "big respect to Andy, big big respect. He's a good fighter. Thank you America. Thank you everyone for coming out this evening. Sorry I let my friends down, sorry I let my supporters down."

 

He went on to say, "there's no excuses. It's my own fault. I got caught with a big shot. Congratulations to him. I would have preferred it to be Deontay Wilder, do you know what I mean? But it wasn't. It was Andy Ruiz, and he deserves it, and the fame and fortune he's about to receive.  

"I don't want anyone to kind of drown in their sorrows. This is boxing. It's all the same. It just wasn't my night. It was Andy Ruiz's night. You know what? It's good for the TV".

Serena Williams knocked out in the third round of the French Open by 20-year-old American, Sofia Kenin






Serena Williams’s bid to win a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam title was thwarted again on Saturday when she was knocked out of the French Open 6-2, 7-5 by compatriot Sofia Kenin in the third round.
 
It was 37-year-old Serena’s earliest exit at the Slams since a third round loss to Alize Cornet at Wimbledon in 2014.  
 
Kenin, the 20-year-old world number 35, will face eighth seed Ashleigh Barty of Australia for a place in the quarter-finals. Three-time Roland Garros champion Williams was attempting to equal Margaret Court’s record of 24 majors.

"I am devastated by this" Kanu Nwankwo mourns former teammate José Antonio Reyes who was killed in a car accident today






Former Arsenal striker, Kanu Nwankwo, has reacted to the shocking death of ex-teammate, Jose Antonio Reyes. 
 
Reyes, 35, was killed in a car crash this morning (read here).  Reyes died in a tragic accident recorded at 11:40 am on the A-376 motorway, from Seville to Utrera on Saturday. Spanish club, Sevilla confirmed his death.
 
The news of his death left football players, fottball lovers and fans shocked and tributes have been pouring in.
 
Mourning him, Kanu Nwankwo shared a photo of them together and wrote on Instagram: "I am devastated by this sad news, Reyes was a gentleman. May his soul rest in peace. @arsenal #arsenal #coyg #premierleague #spain #london #rip"
 

 
Reyes was a member of Arsenal’s invincible team of 2004 that had the likes of Thiery Henry, Fredrick Ljunberg and Kanu Nwankwo.

Brazil and PSG star Neymar accused of raping a woman at a Paris hotel after meeting her on Instagram 



 




Paris Saint-Germain and Brazil superstar, Neymar has been accused of raping a woman at a Paris hotel after meeting her on Instagram.

Reports emerged on Saturday via the Brazilian publication UOL Sport that Neymar had held a conversation with the woman through the social media platform Instagram and, through a friend, arranged for her to travel to Paris.

It is alleged that Neymar arrived drunk at her hotel, the Sofitel Paris Arc de Triomphe, on May 15 before becoming aggressive and violent and then raping her.

The woman claimed she was left shaken by the experience and returned to Brazil on May 17. Her complaint is reported to have been filed last Friday in Sao Paulo.

She told police that Neymar arrived at the hotel that night 'apparently drunk,' and that they talked and 'caressed'.

'However, at some point, Neymar became aggressive, and through violence, practiced sexual intercourse against the will of the victim,' the police report says.
 
According to her,  she returned home to Brazil two days later without telling French police about the alleged rape because she was 'emotionally shaken and afraid to register the facts in another country.'

A statement issued by Neymar's management on his website said the 27-year-old forward completely rejected the allegations.

'Although he was surprised by the news of the Police Report, the facts were already known to the Athlete and his staff, considering that a few days ago he was a victim of attempted extortion, practiced by a lawyer from the city of Sao Paulo, who, according to his version, represented the interests of the alleged victim,' it read.

'The athlete's lawyers were immediately notified and have since day one taken all appropriate steps.

'Faced with the unfortunate, illegal and outrageous event, we completely repudiate the unjust accusations and, above all, the exposure in the press of an extremely negative situation.
'All evidence of the attempted extortion and non-rape shall be submitted to the Police Authority in a timely manner.'

English Man Arrested For Masturbating In Public In The Centre Of Madrid

color=#000000]The man, supposedly a football fan here for the Champions League final, also attacked an Italian tourist and was extremely violent when police officers went to detain him.

An English football fan was arrested by Spanish police in the Puerta de Sol square in the centre of Madrid early on Saturday morning. The man was Unclad and masturbating in public. Footage of the incident was posted on Twitter.

The detained man also allegedly attacked an Italian tourist who complained about his behaviour. The English man then hit her in the face - she fell over and banged her head on the pavement and was taken to hsopital for a scan.

When the Italian woman left the hospital she went to the police station to file a formal complaint over the man's actions. When police officers went to the bar where the man in question had been seen, they found him in a notably drunken state. He became violent and hit several police officers, several of whom required medical attention.

The man will be charged with various offences for his behaviour.

I'll Get My Belts Back, Says Anthony Joshua After Being Floored Four Times


Anthony Joshua has vowed to get his belts back after calling his sensational heavyweight world-title defeat by Andy Ruiz Jr a "minor setback". 

Joshua, 29, was floored four times as Ruiz defied underdog status to win in seven rounds and deliver a true shock to the sport at Madison Square Garden.

He said: "It's a test of character. I'll see what is next and move on."

Promoter Eddie Hearn said a rematch is a "must win" because Joshua's options will be "nothing after that". 

A rematch clause was part of the contract and Hearn said he expected it to take place "in England in November or December". Ruiz himself says he will take the contest at any time.

The Drake Curse: Anthony Joshua becomes the latest victim after posting picture with the Canadian rapper (Screenshot)



 



British-Nigerian heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua has emerged as the latest sports star to be a victim of the 'Drake curse' after he was beaten last night by Mexican boxer, Andy Ruiz Jnr.
 
Back in March, the 28-year-old boxer posted a picture with Drake and vowed to break the Drake Curse, a phenomenon whereby any team or athlete the Canadian rapper is pictured with ends up losing a big event. 
 
'Bout to break the curse #June1st,' he captioned the photo with Drake.

Before his fight with Ruiz Jnr, Joshua admitted that the Drake curse is real after his initial opponent Jarrell Miller failed a drug test. 
‘You know about the Drake curse? It is real though. Do you know what is weird actually? I took a picture with Drake before Miller got banned.'
'Miller had his drug test and the whole fight went to pot. The fight got cancelled,' he said during his appearance on The Michael Kay Show in May.
 
Joshua has now joined the list of sports stars including Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba and Paris Saint-Germain defender Layvin Kurzawa and Conor McGregor among others who have been affected by the Drake curse.
 
After Kurzawa was pictured with Drake, his team Paris Saint-Germain suffered  5 - 1 thrashing at the hands of Lille, the club's heaviest league defeat in 19 years.

Liverpool will play Chelsea in the first all-English Uefa Super Cup on 14 August in Istanbul.

The Reds qualified by beating Tottenham 2-0 in the Champions League final, with the Blues booking their place with a 4-1 win over Arsenal in the Europa League on Wednesday.

Liverpool are the last English side to win the Super Cup, back in 2005.

Four of the past five have been all-Spanish affairs - with Atletico beating Real Madrid in Tallinn in 2018.

However there is no World Club Cup for Liverpool to play in this year, after Fifa made it a four-yearly event, with the next one in 2021. It had been played annually from 2005 until last year.

Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool will be in six competitions next season. They also play in the Community Shield - against Manchester City - at Wembley. A date has yet to be confirmed, but it is likely to be on 3 or 4 August.

AFCON: Mikel Leads Early Arrivals In Super Eagles Camp


The Super Eagles camp opened in Asaba on Sunday as the country begins preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) later this month


Captain John Obi Mikel, Samuel Chukwueze and 16 other players have arrived in Nigeria's training camp for the 2019 Afcon.

The Super Eagles are set to make their 18th appearance in the continental tournament with the aim of winning a fourth title.

Before travelling to Egypt where they will take on Burundi, Madagascar and Guinea in Group B, the three-time African champions have lined up two friendly matches.

Gernot Rohr's side play against Afcon-bound Zimbabwe on June 8 before wrapping up their preparation with a game against Senegal on June 16.

Liverpool will also get 10.5 million euros for reaching the quarter-finals and 12 million euros for reaching semi-finals and 19million euros for reaching the finals and winning it.

Liverpool are €108.9 million richer following their UEFA Champions League triumph over Tottenham Hotspur in Madrid, Spain, on Saturday.

Finalists Tottenham Hotspur are also smiling to the bank as they earn €104 million for their achievement.

UEFA’s distribution formula shows that Liverpool will get €15.5m participation bonus, €8.1 million for winning three group games, €35.3 million from the market pool, €9.5 million for reaching the Round of 16.

Liverpool will also get €10.5 million for reaching the quarter-finals and €12 million for reaching semi-finals and €19million for reaching the finals and winning it.

Only €4million separates the two finalists in prize money.

A total €1.95bn is estimated to be distributed among clubs from Group Stage onwards.

UEFA last year announced several major changes for the 2018-19 Champions League season and that included around 30 percent increase in prize money and how the revenue would be actually distributed among participant clubs.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s manager, Jurgen Klopp says his players have suffered a lot and deserved the Champions league trophy more than anybody.

Speaking to BT Sport after the match, Klopp said: “I am so happy for the boys all these people, and my family. They suffer for me, they deserve it more than anybody.

“Did you ever see a team like, this, fighting with no fuel in the tank? And we have a keeper who makes difficult things look easy.

“It is the best night of our professional lives.

“It took a while, it is important for our development and improvement, This little mark helps a lot, now we can carry on. The owners never put pressure on us.

Serbian striker Luka Jovic has just completed a €70m move to Real Madrid, as the Spanish giants look to rebuild after a disappointing season.

Real Madrid have signed the highly-rated striker penning a six-year contract from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Luka Jovic emerged as one of the most sought-after talents in European football during the 2018-19 campaign.

His return of 27 goals in 47 appearances attracted plenty of attention, with Real one of several sides to cast admiring glances in his direction.
