New injury forces Serena Williams to withdraw from 2019 Italian Open






Twenty-three time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams has withdrawn from the Italian Open after suffering a knee injury.  
 
The American, 37, was set to play sister Venus Williams in the second round but said she would be "concentrating on rehab" instead. "I look forward to seeing you all at the French Open and next year in Rome," she said.
 
Williams has also struggled with injury pulling out of the Miami Open at the third-round stage in March, after a viral illness prevented her from competing in Indian Wells. The French Open tournament kicks off on 26 May and Williams is chasing her fourth title, while Wozniacki, a former Australian Open champion, has never gone beyond the quarter-final stage.

Chelsea footballer Danny Drinkwater has been banned from driving after ploughing his Range Rover through a wall while twice the legal drink-drive limit.

The 29-year-old and two female passengers were treated for minor injuries after the crash in Mere, Cheshire, on 8 April.

Stockport Magistrates' Court heard he caused £50,000 of damage to the car.

Drinkwater admitted drink-driving and was banned for 20 months.

The court heard he suffered a graze to his forehead when his car went through a wall in Ashley Road near to Tatton Park country house.

Prosecutor Subi Chowdhury said Drinkwater himself called emergency services after the crash at about 00:30 BST and admitted drinking alcohol to police officers.

He gave a reading at Middlewich Police station of 87 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, with the legal limit being 35 microgrammes.

Robin Sellars, defending, said Drinkwater was "fully compliant" with police and said he had been to a private function, with a friend expected to drive him home.

However, his friend was unable to do so and Drinkwater decided to drive himself to his home in Nether Alderley, Cheshire.

Mr Sellars added: "He only had himself to blame. He understands he's done wrong.

"He instructs me he will be employing a driver."

Mr Sellars said Drinkwater had no previous convictions and asked for him to be punished with a fine rather than community service.

But District Judge Mark Hadfield rejected this and sentenced him to a 12-month community order with 70 hours' community service.

The former Manchester United trainee was also ordered to pay £85 prosecution costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Mr Hadfield said: "You knew when you got behind the wheel of that vehicle you should not have been driving."

Danny Drinkwater was a product of the Manchester United youth academy but did not make a senior appearance for the club, spending loan spells at Huddersfield, Cardiff, Watford and Barnsley before joining Leicester in 2012.

The midfielder was named in the Championship Team of the Year as the Foxes won promotion to the Premier League in the 2013-14 season.

He remained a key part of the Leicester side as they overcame odds of 5,000-1 to win the Premier League under Claudio Ranieri in 2015-16.

His performances during the Foxes' remarkable title-winning campaign earned him a first England call-up, making his debut against the Netherlands at Wembley in March 2016 and going on to win three caps to date.

However, having asked to leave the club, he joined Chelsea in a £35m deal in September 2017, following former team-mate N'Golo Kante to Stamford Bridge after the midfielder's move the previous summer.

He played 22 times in all competitions as injury disrupted his first season with the Blues and he has found himself frozen out under new boss Maurizio Sarri this term, with his only appearance coming in the Community Shield.

Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane, is set to bolster his squad ahead of next season and could let up to 14 players leave the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the season.

Former Tottenham Hotspur star, Gareth Bale, tops the list.


Bale has been told that he will be frozen out of the Zidane’s first team, should he not be able to find a new club this summer.

Uefa investigators want Manchester City to be banned from the Champions League for a season if they are found guilty of breaking financial rules.

However, according to one well-placed source, a final decision is yet to be made by chief investigator Yves Leterme.

The former Belgian prime minister, chairman of the investigatory panel of Uefa's independent financial control board, is set to make a recommendation this week.

With no vote in such cases, the final say lies with him but several of his colleagues are understood to have firmly expressed the view at a recent meeting that a season-long ban would be a suitable punishment if City are found guilty.

What are City alleged to have done?
Leterme and his team have been looking at evidence first uncovered in a series of leaks published by the German newspaper Der Spiegel last year.

The reports alleged that Manchester City had broken Financial Fair Play regulations by inflating the value of a multimillion-pound sponsorship deal. City were fined £49m in 2014 for a previous breach of regulations.

The Premier League champions denied any wrongdoing, and Uefa said it could not comment on an ongoing investigation, but according to the New York Times, investigators now want rules upheld and City punished with a ban.

Uefa's adjudicatory chamber would have to decide whether it agreed with any recommendation from Leterme - expected in the next 48 hours - although it is unlikely to apply to next season's competition because City could appeal, and even take their case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

But it would still be a major blow for a club desperate to win Europe's most prestigious club competition for the first time, and who could also soon face a transfer ban, with the FA, Premier League and Fifa also currently investigating City over their signing of youth players.

A statement from Manchester City said: "Manchester City FC is fully cooperating in good faith with the CFCB IC's [Club Financial Control Body Investigatory Chamber] ongoing investigation.
"In doing so the club is reliant on both the CFCB IC's independence and commitment to due process; and on Uefa's commitment of the 7 March that it 'will make no further comment on the matter while the investigation is ongoing'.

"The New York Times report citing 'people familiar with the case' is therefore extremely concerning.
"The implications are that either Manchester City's good faith in the CFCB IC is misplaced or the CFCB IC process is being misrepresented by individuals intent on damaging the club's reputation and its commercial interests. Or both.

"Manchester City's published accounts are full and complete and a matter of legal and regulatory record. The accusation of financial irregularities are entirely false, and comprehensive proof of this fact has been provided to the CFCB IC."

What are the FFP rules?
Financial Fair Play was introduced by Uefa to prevent clubs in its competitions from spending beyond their means and stamp out what its then president Michel Platini called "financial doping" within football.

Under the rules, financial losses are limited and clubs are also obliged to meet all their transfer and employee payment commitments at all times.

Clubs need to balance football-related expenditure - transfers and wages - with television and ticket income, plus revenues raised by their commercial departments. Money spent on stadiums, training facilities, youth development or community projects is exempt.

The Club Financial Control Body, set up by Uefa, has the ultimate sanction of banning clubs from Uefa competitions, with other potential punishments including warnings, fines, withholding prize money, transfer bans, points deductions, a ban on registration of new players and a restriction on the number of players who can be registered for Uefa competitions.

Has anyone been punished before?
In 2014, Qatar-owned Paris St-Germain received a similar financial punishment to the one City received.

PSG were deemed to have breached FFP rules when the CFCB decided their back-dated £167m sponsorship contract with the Qatar Tourism Authority, which wiped out their losses, had an unfair value.

That meant the French side exceeded allowed financial losses by a wide margin when, under FFP rules, clubs were limited to losses of £37m over the previous two years.

They received a fine, a spending cap and were only allowed to register 21 players for the Champions League for a season.

PSG also remain under investigation for their 2017-18 finances when they signed Neymar from Barcelona for a world record £222m euros (£200m) and Kylian Mbappe from Monaco, initially on loan, for 180m euros (£165.7m).

Former Manchester United boss, Jose Mourinho has broken silence after Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola surpassed his titles winning record.

Mourinho has won 25 major titles during his managerial career before he was sacked by Man United last December, while Guardiola has won 26 titles and he is heading for 27 titles this weekend if Man City beat Watford in the FA Cup final.
But reacting, Mourinho said he does not focuses on figures, adding that he would have won more titles than Guardiola had he remained at his former clubs, Porto and Inter Milan respectively.

“No, no, it reminds me that I’m there, with 25 titles,” Mourinho told L’Equipe when asked about Guardiola’s superior titles record.
“When I won the Champions League with Porto and Inter Milan, if I had stayed, the season after I would have had the European Super Cup, the Club World Cup and the national Super Cup and perhaps I would have ended up with 31 titles.

Chelsea star, Ruben Loftus-Cheek has identified three ‘most professional footballers’ in the world.

Loftus-Cheek believes the likes of Gary Cahill, Cesar Azpilicueta and David Luiz are the most professional footballers he has ever seen.
The England international said this ahead of Chelsea’s Europa League final clash with Arsenal on May 29.

“We look up to the senior guys in the squad, observe them and see how they act and see how they lead — especially Gary Cahill and Cesar Azpilicueta,” Loftus-Cheek was quoted by ESPN as saying.
“They’re two of the most professional footballers I’ve seen. David [Luiz] as well.”
Loftus-Cheek added: “But I think it’s time for us. Me and Andreas are 23 now. It’s not so young and we have to step up when we get given the time to play, and start to become really important players for the team.”

Abramovich is ready to cut short the 60-year-old’s time at Stamford Bridge.

It is believed that the Russian billionaire’s decision is not based on Chelsea’s achievements this season, but Sarri’s poor relationship with the club fans.
However, Sport Mediaset is now reporting that Lampard, a Chelsea legend, is already “booked” in to replace Sarri at the West London club in a deal that could be official soon.
The report also claimed that Sarri could possibly return to Serie A as he eyes potential jobs at AC Milan or Roma.

Sarri has had a difficult first season at Chelsea, failing to win the club’s supporters over with his style of play.

Paulo Dybala’s agent, Gustavo has confirmed that his client will leave Juventus in this summer’s transfer window.

Gustavo, who is also Dybala’s brother, stated that the Argentine international is no longer happy at Juventus, adding that he won’t be the only one to leave the Turin club at the end of the season.
Dybala has been linked with a move to Manchester United in recent weeks, to replace striker, Romelu Lukaku, at Old Trafford.

 
Speaking in an interview with Radio Impacto Córdoba, Gustavo said: “There are many possibilities that Paulo leaves Turin. He needs a change, he was very much at ease in Italy but now he is no longer.
“Let’s say that Paulo is no longer at ease and happy, as many other Juventus players are no longer well. He is not the only one who will leave. Problem with Ronaldo? No, off the field there is no problem with Cristiano. The problems are on the field: Paulo is young, he has to play.”
Dybala has scored just five goals in 28 Serie A games for Max Allegri’s side this season.

Barcelona president, Josep Bartomeu, has expressed his full backing for manager Ernesto Valverde, despite calls for his sack.

The Spanish champions wrapped up back-to-back La Liga titles with a 1-0 win over Levante on April 27.
After this weekend’s league fixture against Eibar, they will switch their attention to a Copa del Rey final against Valencia six days later.

Despite being within touching distance of another domestic double, Valverde’s position has come under scrutiny since his side were dumped out of the Champions League in dramatic fashion at the hands of Liverpool.
Speaking at the ‘Kubala’ book presentation on Thursday, Bartomeu said: “Valverde said the other day that he has the support of the president and the board. He’s the coach we want.
“We’re halfway through a large project. He has a contract and we’re very happy with him. Now it’s about how the players recover from the enormous setback.

“It’s been a magnificent season, we’ve won [the league] with games to spare. We all want more. Now we’ve got the Copa del Rey final and we’re coming off the back of a damaging defeat.

Arsenal have described UEFA’s decision to host the Europa League final in Baku, Azerbaijani capital, as “unacceptable”.

Fans are struggling with the logistics and cost of attending the game on May 29.
Arsenal and Chelsea were given 6,000 tickets each by European football’s governing body for the match at the 68,700-capacity Olympic Stadium, more than 4,500 kilometres (2,800 miles) from the English capital.

UEFA cited Baku’s limited airport capacity as one reason for not reserving more tickets for travelling fans.
“We are bitterly disappointed by the fact that due to transport limitations UEFA can only make a maximum of 6,000 tickets available to Arsenal for a stadium with a capacity of well over 60,000.
“Time will tell if it is even possible for 6,000 Arsenal fans to attend the match, given how extreme the travel challenges are.

“On behalf of our fans, we would like to understand the criteria by which venues are selected for finals, and also how supporter requirements are taken into account as part of this,” added Arsenal’s statement.
“Moving forward, we would urge UEFA to ensure that supporter logistics and requirements are a key part of any future decisions for final venues as what has happened this season is unacceptable, and cannot be repeated.
“We would be happy to join any future discussions to avoid this situation happening again,” Arsenal said in a strongly worded statement.

Real Madrid have been named the most valuable brand in world football, MySportDab reports.

Los Blancos are now worth 1.646 billion euros and overtakes Manchester United (1.472 billion euros) into first place on the list.

Real Madrid value has risen by 27% over the past year and the club has become the first in the world to receive 750 million euros in ticket revenue.

"Real Madrid have shown this year who truly reigns supreme in the world of football," said Bryn Anderson, director at Brand Finance.

"They triumph not only as the most valuableand strongest brand but their enterprise value and stadium are also ranked second to none.

English clubs dominate that list with 43 per cent of total brand value.

The Bundesliga follows closely behind with 13 clubs but ultimately ranks behind La Liga for combined brand value.

As for other Spanish clubs in the top 50, Atletico Madrid stay in 14th, Sevilla have risen 13 places to 35th, Athletic Club drop to 45th, Villarreal climb to 47th and Valencia are 48th.

AFCON 2019: Meet The 24 Finalist For Egypt 2019

The CAF African Cup of Nations makes a return after a 2-year break, the tournament was initially scheduled to be hosted by Cameroon. 

The West African nation would have hosted the competition for the first time since 1972. The Indomitable Lions were also the title holders after winning the previous edition.

On 30 November 2018, Cameroon was stripped of hosting the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations due to delays in the delivery of infrastructure, Boko Haram insurgency and the Anglophone Crisis. On 8 January 2019, Egypt were chosen by the CAF Executive Committee as the new host of the biennial football competition.

The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt in June and July has been pushed back by a week to cater for the holy month of Ramadan, the tournament’s chief told AFP.

The four-week long event will now run from June 21-July 19 instead of June 15-July 13, said Mohamed Fadl, a former player who has been handed the task of supervising the continental showpiece by the Egyptian Football Association (EFA).

Also, the 2019 edition will be the first with 24 teams and will also the Video Assistant Referee (VAR ) introduced into AFCON, six venues, Cairo International Stadium and 30 June Stadium in Cairo, Alexandria Stadium in Alexandria, Suez Stadium in Suez, Ismailia Stadium in Ismailia and Al Salam Stadium in Cairo will host the games

This will be the fifth time Egypt will be hosts after 1959, 1974 1986 and 2006, hoping to be winners after coming second place to Cameroon who won the last edition in Gabon, Nigeria winners in 2013 will hope to return as winners after missing the last two editions.

Algeria will hope to make a statement, while Senegal with their array of stars led by Sadio Mane will look to break the jinx and win the ever elusive trophy, Zaha and Ivory Coast will seek to repeat the 2015 feat when they won it last. Ghana will want to revive their dwindling status as the powerhouse and Morocco will hope to post better performance than what they achieved in Russia last year.

Transfer: Zidane clashes with Perez over Pogba, Eriksen
 
 
                          
Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane, has disagreed with the club’s president, Florentino Perez over who to sign between Manchester United midfielder, Paul Pogba and Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen.


The Mirror reports that Zidane wants the Los Blancos to sign Pogba this summer, but Perez prefers Eriksen instead of the 2018 World Cup winner.

The report also claimed that Zidane believes he can bring the best out of Pogba, who has labelled Real Madrid as ‘a dream for every player’.


The 46-year-old was quoted by the UK newspaper as saying: “If when his experience at United is over and he [Pogba] wants to come why would he not come to Madrid?”

Meanwhile, Zidane, a few days ago disagreed with the club’s board over the role of the first-choice goalkeeper and a young back-up next season.

Zidane was told by the club director, Jose Angel Sanchez and Juni Calafat, that they would have a first-choice goalkeeper and a young back-up next season.


The Frenchman has followed the club’s wishes, by informing Keylor Navas his future lies elsewhere, in a meeting at their training ground last week.

But he plans to go against the wishes of the club boss, by installing his own son, Luca, as his No.2 instead of youngster Andriy Lunin.

Juventus confirm Massimiliano Allegri will leave at end of the season after five years in charge of the club






Italian giants, Juventus have announced that coach Massimiliano Allegri will leave at end of the season after five years in charge.
 
The 51-year-old Italian coach has won five Serie A titles and the Coppa Italia four times during his five years in charge of the Turin-based side, as well as finishing runners-up in the Champions League in 2015 and 2017.
 
The club released a statement to confirm the news, which read: 'Massimiliano Allegri will not be on the Juventus bench for the 2019-20 season. 
 
'The coach and the president, Andrea Agnelli, will meet the media together at tomorrow's press conference - Saturday 18 May, at 2pm in the press conference hall of Allianz Stadium.'  Antonio Conte and Pep Guardiola are among those who could replace Allegri with Mauricio Pochettino, the favourite to take over at the Allianz Stadium.
 
Reacting to the annoucement, Allegri told Italian TV programme Striscia La Notizia: "They were five marvelous years, five years is a lot for me," he said.  
"Six months to build a team and then leave like this? What do you mean six months? Five years to build Juventus.  
"Life is like this, things come and go." 
 
Italian media reported that the club had made contact with the Tottenham boss last week, with the Argentine coach reportedly demanding an enormous £17million-per-year contract, according to last Saturday's Corriere dello Sport.

Former National Basketball Association,NBA, star and ex-husband to reality TV star, Khloé Kardashian, Lamar Odom has revealed how he used a ‘fake’ penis to pass a drug test for the Olympics in 2004.
The 39-year-old who was offered a spot in the U.S. Men’s Olympic basketball team confessed that he had to purchase a prosthetic penis filled with his trainers urine to pass drug test because he had been “smoking weed every day that summer.”
Lamar added that he knew he wouldn’t pass to compete at the Olympics in Athens, Greece if he had not come up with a way of passing the drug test by using a fake penis.
He revealed this in his new memoir, Darkness to Light, posted by the PEOPLE.
Lamar wrote: “The joy of being named to the twelve-man roster quickly turned to anxiety when Olympic officials informed me that I would have to pass a drug test before officially joining the team.

“There was absolutely no way I was going to pass. I’d been smoking weed every day that summer. Panic set in. We started googling ‘fake penises’ and studied different ways to beat a drug test.
‘After an exhaustive search we ordered a giant, rubber, black c*** to arrive the next day
“I then got my drug-free trainer to urinate into the reservoir of the phallus, which was hidden in the balls as the tester arrived at my home.
“He handed me the rubber penis and left the bathroom as I strapped it on
“I unzipped my pants and carefully slid the fake penis through the zipper hole. To get the pee to come out of the tip, I had to squeeze the shaft repeatedly.”
He added that he later passed the test and went on to play on the U.S. National Team and won a bronze medal in the Olympics in 2004.
