SEASON (2) Shades Of Lust Episode 1-24
#1
Shades of lust (season 2) episode 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6

Kelvin’s side of the story continues from the last episode of season 1 Due to protest by onlookers, the policemen were forced to free the innocent guests they unlawfully rounded up and at the end of the whole fracas I found myself sitting in the midst of five policemen who guarded me as if I was a very dangerous criminal.

I just couldn’t say a word. The whole thing looked like magic to me. I just was hopelessly speechless. The surprise of seeing Cynthia hale and hearty, the shame of being embarrassed at my wedding, the fear of what was to come and the pain of being treated in such manner before my parents were much more than enough to leave me speechless. There wasn’t any doubt I was going down. I just felt like committing suicide that moment. I just felt like instantly ending it all. Oh, I was so ashamed of myself. So ashamed of my life.. As the police truck I was thrown into was about to move out with me, my dad quickly held on to the frame, insisting on going with me. I never knew my old man loved me that much because he was always hard on me but seeing him in that difficult moment, fighting to be at my side without even bothering to know if I was guilty or not totally changed my mind-set about him. Tears quickly dropped from my eyes. I never knew a time would come when my poor father would be struggling to ride at the back of a police truck with me. After much argument, my dad was let into the truck which speedily headed straight to the fire service police department at the other end of the town. I couldn’t look dad in the face all through the short trip to the police station. I couldn’t even say a word to him. ———————————— On getting to the police station, I was quickly thrown at the back of the police counter by officers who brought me in as they awaited further instructions. I simply kept calm while dad kept staring at me, waiting for me to explain things to him. But what was there to explain?. How do I tell him the truth?. The bitter story on how I unwillingly partook in a murder attempt. Oh no, some words are better not said, some confessions are better left in the heart. —————————– Cynthia and her police friends soon walked in, looking very serious and mean. ‘’Cynthia’’ I managed to breathe painfully. She stopped for a while, stared at me, threw a quick look at my dad and shook her head. Somehow I felt she was pained to see me in that condition. Somehow I felt she was still in love with me. But what’s the gain in being in love with a man who aided another lady in disposing you?. I couldn’t help but wonder what happened to Jessica. She was yet to show up at the station and I felt perhaps she was taken to a hospital after fainting earlier. However I never waited long before seeing her walk in with three well dressed gentlemen. They all looked like lawyers. ‘’I swear I’m going to bring this station down for ruining my wedding ceremony. How on earth would you guys act on a mere hearsay?. Did she present any evidence to prove that I tried to kill here before you guys decided to stop my wedding?. The inspector general of police will be petitioned. This police department will be sued. You don’t know who you are dealing with’’ she shouted while the police officers present looked on, unable to say anything to her. Somehow it appeared as if they were intimidated by her demeanor. Of course who wouldn’t be, seeing an angry bride in white threatening the whole police force with a team of lawyers? Jessica’s lawyers soon went into an office to speak with the officer in charge of the station. It equally was the same office Cynthia and her police friends went into when they showed up. About fifteen minutes later, Jessica’s lawyers showed up with smiles on their faces. ‘’we are going home’’ they said, nodding at me. And just like that, I was free to go but unfortunately the harm has been done. My wedding ceremony never happened and Jessica was yet to fully be my wife in the eyes of the state.

Episode 2

Jude’s side of the story continues Arlington, Virginia (U.S.A) ———— My dad’s lawyer was at the house waiting for me when I arrived with Uncle Tony. I really can’t describe how I felt as old memories flashed back in my head the moment I stepped foot into the house. Tears quickly formed in my eyes as I slowly remembered the last time I was with my dad in that very house. I remembered the night we argued about his decision of wanting me to study in Nigeria. ‘’hello Jude. I’m so glad to have you here’’ the young lawyer addressed me politely, quickly interrupting my thoughts. I looked up at him, unable to say a word. ‘’my name is Mr. Emeka Collins, your late dad’s attorney and friend’’ he added quickly while Uncle Tony nervously tapped me on the left shoulder. ‘’I’m really glad to meet you Mr. Collins. I never expected you to be a Nigerian’’ I muttered quickly, forcing out a quick smile. The Lawyer who was almost the same age or maybe a bit older than Kelvin blushed. ‘’everything was properly looked after by me since your dad left the country earlier in the year just like he requested. I believe you will have to first settle down and have a long rest before we can talk business. Here is my card. You can call me anytime but I will be back tomorrow’’ he added politely, nodded at Uncle Tony and left without another word. ‘’my wife prepared something for you. You can come over to my house for lunch after you settle down’’ uncle Tony quickly breathed while I faced him with a look of gratitude. ‘’thanks so much for all you have done for me. You are just like an angel to me’’ I muttered honestly. ‘’please don’t keep us waiting for long. It’s already lunch time’’ he smiled, tapped my shoulder again and left, leaving me all alone to battle with old memories as I slowly went round the house. Somehow I blamed myself for staying away for too long but it really wasn’t much of my fault because a whole lot of things hindered me from making the journey earlier. An hour later, I was back at Uncle Tony’s house after making a short trip downtown to get some things for myself. I was warmly received by his wife who surprised me with a local Nigerian meal even though the taste was a bit awkward. Later in the evening I called my Tracy on phone and spent almost an hour speaking with her. There wasn’t any doubt we were already missing each other and I just wished she was there with me. I equally tried calling Kelvin after speaking with Tracy but the dude never answered my call and I couldn’t help but wonder what was going on with him in Nigeria. I kind of felt sorry for him. I spent few minutes wondering how his marriage life with Jessica would be like. Pamela was the last person I called that very day. Yes I knew it was wrong calling her in the first place since she was nothing but temptation to me but unfortunately I just couldn’t resist the urge of telling her that I was in the country and like I feared, she told me she would be at the house first thing the next day. By 8am the next day, Pamela was at my house, smiling like a woman who had accomplished everything. She looked so big and different; in fact she was just double of her old size. I couldn’t help but wonder how many weeks she had left before putting to bed. For a minute I couldn’t say a word to her as my eyes fell on her protruded abdomen. ‘’finally you are here’’ she breathed happily as I let her into the house. ‘’I guess this is going to be our new home for now?’’ she asked as if I made any plans with her. ‘’Pamela we really have a lot to talk and yes I appreciate you coming here to meet me. For the sake of our child, we really have to agree on something’’ I stammered while she looked at me with surprise. ‘’I don’t understand?, what’s the problem?’’ she asked curiously, leaving her eyes on me with all seriousness. I swallowed hard as I stared back at her. To be candid I was very clueless on how to deal with our relationship. I really had no plans for her but I knew I had to reach a good compromise with her for the sake of our child. It was now or never. I had to come up with something reasonable, but what could be more reasonable than marrying her like she wanted?. The early demise of my mum denied me the much needed love and affection of a complete home and yes it greatly affected my childhood, and my conscience wouldn’t just allow me to deny my child the love of a father. But spending the rest of my life with Pamela would leave me miserable, my future; my everything would come to a hold. How do I settle things once and for all with her???.

Episode 3

Jude’s side of the story continues ———————————————— ‘’so what’s up with you?’’ I slowly asked Pamela as we drank tea together minutes later. She breathed deeply and shrugged. I couldn’t help but wonder what was going through her mind that moment. Of course there wasn’t any need rushing things because we had a whole lot of time to spend together. ‘’you know Jude, being without you for this long was nothing but hell. I simply was counting the days. Trust me it isn’t easy being a woman’’ she muttered with a smile. I smiled back, wondering what next to say. I really was in a messy situation with her. She was having my child and about dumping her husband who took away poverty from her life, a husband who made her a refined lady with big taste. Of course I knew such move could get both of us killed, especially if the man gets to know about my identity. Secondly I wasn’t in love with her. In fact I was yet to find the real definition of what I actually felt for her. Then how about my Tracy?, who was at the corner with all her trust and hopes on me. I just was a guy living for the moment. I was plainly uncertain of how my tomorrow would end. ‘’what are you thinking’’ Pamela soon asked curiously, breaking into my thoughts. I forced out a smile. ‘’nothing much, just thinking about your future’’ I muttered. ‘’of course my future is with you. I’m already putting finishing touches to my divorce plan. I’m just taking my time’’ she breathed quickly, her eyes filled with excitement. I reached forward and held her hand. ‘’how about you don’t divorce your husband?, We can continue being lovers for the rest of our lives. I have my Tracy that I want to marry and you have a husband that is willing to do anything for you. Divorcing him could lead to a whole lot of things. He could end up killing both of us’’ I suddenly proposed, shaking her with my words. To be sincere I never planned saying those words to her. I never thought of such plan before that moment. It simply came into my head and I poured it out instantly. Pamela instantly withdrew her hand from my grasp, quickly coloring up. ‘’no’’ she breathed with great energy. ‘’I want you all for myself. I can end my marriage with the senator anytime I chose and he isn’t going to do sh.it about it. He can’t afford committing murder here in U.S’’ she breathed defiantly. ‘’how about me?. I have a life. I have a future. I belong to Nigeria. Nigeria is my home and I plan staying there’’ I pushed on. ‘’because of Tracy right?’’ she asked, tears quickly forming in her eyes. It was just as if I shattered her hopes with my proposal. ‘’how about your son?. Are you going to ruin his future because of your feelings for Tracy? Will you be able to look him in the face tomorrow and tell him that you abandoned him because of a woman?’’ she asked. I looked down, so indecisive, so clueless. Luckily my dad’s lawyer knocked and walked in on us that moment. Of course he was extremely surprised to see me with a pregnant lady but he never gave out his feelings. ‘’I’m sorry, I never knew you had a guest’’ he muttered politely while I threw a searching look at Pamela who was equally surprised to see the lawyer walk in. ‘’please excuse us for a minute’’ I smiled to the lawyer, stood up and led Pamela to my bedroom. ‘’wait for me here. We still have a lot to talk’’ I asked of her, politely gave her a nervous peck, grabbed my late dad’s suitcase and headed back to the sitting room to meet the lawyer. ‘’so where do we start now?’’ the lawyer asked with a smile as his eyes fell on the suitcase. I breathed deeply. ‘’thanks for taking care of my dad’s properties in my absence but please before we talk about his business here in Virginia, first check out the contents of this suitcase and tell me what you think of it. I believe a lady scammed and killed my dad back in Nigeria and I want you to help me. This suitcase has been with me for months now’’ I quickly requested while the young lawyer briefly searched me with his eyes before taking the suitcase from me. I suddenly felt at peace. ‘’thank you Uncle Tony’’ I breathed. ‘’hmmm there are a whole lots of documents in here. I will have to take the suitcase to my office to thoroughly study everything. I will help you get to the bottom of this case. I help you out even if it means going back to Nigeria with you’’ the lawyer assured me, leaving a big smile on my face. ‘’you will hear from me in few days. But if you are in need of any urgent assistance, you can call me up anytime’’ he added, stood up and left with a smile. After few seconds, I returned to my room to be with Pamela who was patiently waiting for me. ‘’ so what was that all about?’’ she asked curiously. ‘’my late dad’s lawyer’’ I simply answered, sitting beside her on the bed. She softly held my hand. ‘’I have made up my mind to divorce my husband. I can’t continue living like this. If you don’t want your child, it’s fine by me, I rather be a single mother than have your child for my husband’’ she muttered seriously, leaving me totally shocked.

Episode 4

Kelvin’s side of the story continues from his wedding day ‘’listen Kelvin, we have to stick with each other all through this embarrassing moment. You have nothing to fear about Cynthia’s reappearance. I have things under control’’ Jessica confidently whispered to me as we headed out of the police station that fateful day. I said nothing her. I simply was nothing but a drowning man. It was as if I was already seeing my end before me. But to Jessica everything appeared well and settled, I couldn’t help but wish to have the kind of confidence she had. On getting back to my house, I met my mum and few people from my community waiting anxiously for me. My eyes melted with tears once again as I approached them. I couldn’t help but wonder how my parents were feeling that moment. The shame and embarrassment I caused them. Yes dad gave me his support by sticking his neck for me but then I equally knew he was totally displeased with me even though he was yet to voice out his thoughts. ‘’my God’’ mum breathed with relief as she drew forward and hugged me. She quickly broke away from me and equally hugged my dad. ‘’I’m sorry for everything. I will be at the village tomorrow to explain everything. I will find someone that will take you guys home’’ I managed to mutter while Jessica softly grabbed my hand. ‘’don’t worry dear; I have someone that will take them home. Let me go and call the guy’’ she offered softly, disappearing afterwards. She returned minutes later with one of her cousins’. ‘’Michael will take you guys to the village’’ she said to my parents who were probably too weak to argue or ask questions. ‘’mum, I’m sorry for everything. I have to first sort out some things here this evening. First thing tomorrow, I will be at the village to explain everything’’ I stammered, throwing a pleading look at my dad who shrugged. Seriously I wished I had the power to turn back the hands of time that moment. The embarrassment was simply too much to bear. ————————————— By 9pm, Jessica joined me in my room, wearing only a big shirt and nothing underneath. I stared at her silently, unable to say a word even though I had a thousand and one words in my head waiting to be said. Seriously the shock of seeing Cynthia well and alive, the insult I got from the police, the difficulty I had in facing my friends waiting at the reception and the cost of cancelling my wedding ceremony, after paying for the hall, decorations and everything were enough to make a man commit suicide. I just was like a man carrying thirty bags of cement on his chest. Yet my problems were far from being over. I still had to deal with Cynthia and whatever she had planned for me. The d–n girl simply chose the right time to show up. I couldn’t help but imagine what my kinsmen and family members were thinking and saying about me. ‘’what are you thinking my love?’’ Jessica asked, placing her head on my chest. ‘’we made a very huge mistake with Cynthia and we paid for it in a very humiliating way but that shouldn’t get you down’’ she muttered softly. I swallowed hard, unable to say anything to her. ‘’when you saw her today, what did you feel?’’ she slowly asked. ‘’I felt surprised. I felt shocked. Oh God’’ I breathed. ‘’let’s just make love and forget about today. Tomorrow we can start making new plans’’ she breathed, reaching down to play with my joys.tick. ———————————————– Early the next day, I headed to Joe’s gym to see him and apologize. Surprisingly or should I say luckily, I met all my friends that were present at my wedding there at his gym. It was as if they were there for a meeting. I apologized to everyone and as guys they simply joked about it, mocking me and making it impossible for me to really know how they felt about everything. Joe was the only one that was a bit honest with me. ‘’listen Kelvin, I really don’t know how things played out between you and Cynthia but with what that girl did yesterday you have to start watching your back. I think you should try as much as possible to settle things with her because these days one can’t be sure of anything’’ he advised as he escorted me to my car but unfortunately he never knew the true situation of things. How on earth would I walk up to Cynthia and apologize for trying to get rid of her with Jessica. Of course some sins are unforgivable. Sins like what Jessica and I did to her. Moreover she was pregnant back then. Yes and that’s true, what exactly happened to the pregnancy or is she now with a child?. My child?. I wondered. There was only one way to know and that’s paying a visit to her.

Episode 5

Kelvin’s side of the story continues I headed straight to Cynthia’s place as soon as I left Joe’s gym. Yes I had a lot to settle with Cynthia. I had a lot of apologies to make. I had to know what happened to her pregnancy. I had to know how she survived the terrible incident. I had a lot of atonements to make. Of course I knew it wouldn’t be an easy task but it was something I had to bravely do. ‘’dear lord I don’t just know what I have became. I don’t even know what to ask of you. Just help me. Just touch Cynthia’s heart’’ I prayed as I nervously drove over to her house. But unfortunately on getting to the house, I couldn’t get to see Cynthia; instead I met a girl I had never seen prior to that moment. ‘’Cynthia doesn’t live here anymore and even if she does, I don’t think she will want to see you. So save yourself the energy and face your new life.’’ The young girl coldly said to me. ‘’so where is she now living?’’ I asked weakly. She scoffed and eyed me. ‘’you must be silly to think that I would give you the address. Men like you are supposed to be languishing in jail if not for our terrible justice system. Why are you looking for her?. To try killing her once again huh?’’ she fired at me. I swallowed hard, feeling very ashamed of myself. ‘’seriously you are very terrible man. What did Cynthia do to you that warranted making an attempt on her life?. She isn’t the first woman to get pregnant for her boyfriend. You just planned with your new girlfriend to murder her and the innocent baby, your blood. You disgust me’’ she screamed and shut the door on my face. Tears dropped from my eyes as I made my way back to my car. Of course I deserved every harsh word and punishment melted out to me. Yes I was a terrible man. There wasn’t any doubt what I did was very wrong and to Cynthia and her friends they believed I planned the whole stuff without knowing that I was nothing but a victim of circumstance. My phone rang that moment and it was my mother calling. ‘’hello son, I hope you are still coming home today?. We are anxiously waiting for you’’ she asked curiously. ‘’I don’t know mum. I don’t know if I will make it today’’ I managed to mutter. ‘’you better make it because you have a lot of explanations to make’’ She muttered and hung up. I shivered as the memory of all that happened the pervious day came flashing back in my head. D–n it just looked like a very terrible nightmare. I was still battling with my thoughts when I noticed an SUV pull up in front of my car. To my greatest surprise, Cynthia jumped out of the passenger’s side and the car quickly pulled away. I instantly ran after her. ‘’Cynthia please wait. Cynthia’’ I screamed as I ran after her. She stopped, turned and stared at me with surprise. It was obvious she was extremely surprised to see me and yes my heart pounded furiously as I closed in on her. ——————————————— meanwhile @Arlington, Virginia USA, Jude & Pamela is still locked in a heated argument Jude’s side of the story continues ‘’c’mon Pamela ‘’ I screamed. ‘’and as for your Tracy, it’s time we find out how much she loves you. It’s time she knows the truth. I will tell her everything today and if she still wants to be with you, fine I won’t have any choice than to stay away’’ she seriously added, almost causing me a heart attack. ‘’you can’t be serious. It’s not your decision to make’’ I screamed furiously. ‘’it is my dear because my son’s life is at stake here. You are just indecisive’’ she answered quickly. ‘’you are a married woman for Christ sake. Just let me make my decisions myself please’’ I breathed, standing up in anger. ‘’I can’t force you to be with me. It’s pointless fighting over nothing. I’m leaving, since I’m not wanted but I have every reason to tell your Tracy the truth. She needs to know what she is getting into. If she really loves you, it won’t be a problem to her’’ she softly muttered, stood up and grabbed her bag. I stared at Pamela, uncertain of what next to say. She truly was getting into my head and I just didn’t know what exactly to do with her. I stared at her abdomen, swallowing hard. ‘’you have to at least rest before leaving for the sake of the child you are carrying’’ I muttered quietly. ‘’do you care?. No you don’t’’ she answered with tears in her eyes and left the house like someone under the influence of an evil genie. I never knew she really meant to leave until she left the house and I couldn’t get myself to go after her even though it looked so foolish to me that she would take a long trip to my house and leave so easily, unless of course she had something else planned out.

Episode 6

Kelvin’s side of the story continues ‘’I can’t believe you have the guts to stop at my house’’ Cynthia breathed, scanning me with her eyes. I shivered as I stood before her. All I planned saying quickly disappeared from my head. I simply stood and exchanged glances with her, fighting hard to get back my confidence. ‘’what do you want?. Or did she send you to finish off the job? Are you here to get rid of me again?’’ she asked. I looked down with great pain. I just was so helpless before her. She breathed deeply, taking a step towards me. ‘’I took a trip to death-valley and survived. I returned a new woman. I’m no longer the Cynthia you used to know. So you better start preparing yourself for the worst. I’m not alone in this fight. I now have real friends that are willing to stick with me to the very end. Idiot’’ she muttered, turned and made to head towards her house but I quickly held her hand, stopping her. My action of course surprised her. ‘’I’m really sorry Cynthia. I deserve every punishment and I’m willing to take it but just find a way to forgive me before punishing me’’ I stammered. She quickly withdrew her hand from my grasp. ‘’I can’t believe my ears. Where should I start forgiving you huh?. You cheated on me. You lied to me. You rejected your child. You connived with another lady to kill me. You dumped me in a very miserable place where vultures would have dealt with my body. You never checked up on my family for once. No Kelvin, no matter how I loved you in the past, I can’t forgive you’’ she answered, her eyes quickly melting with tears. I swallowed hard with great pain, unable to say anything. Deep down I really felt like going down on my knees before her but my pride wouldn’t let me because we were in an open street. ‘’it’s just a matter of time before you end up in prison. If I don’t get you for trying to kill me, I have other areas to get you. Remember I do know most of your secrets’’ she added, turned and walked into her apartment while I stood and watched her with great fear and pain. I was so confused on what to do next and the only option left for me was to go back to Jessica and enjoy her protection. ——————————————- Jude’s side of the story continues As I left my sitting room, on my way to Uncle Tony’s house, I ran into Pamela in front of the house (at the veranda). She was sitting on the floor, like someone who had given up on life. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Of course I thought she already left, (though I never checked to confirm when she walked out on me earlier). After staring at her for some seconds, I breathed deeply and sat beside her. ‘’I’m sorry for everything but you see the truth is that I’m not yet ready to be a father and you can’t force it on me’’ I softly breathed, trying to make peace with her. She quickly gave me an askance look. ‘’that’s not the truth Jude. The truth is that you don’t want me. Assuming you asked me to give you some years to get your act together, I would have understood but you want me to go back to my husband and keep deceiving him while you marry your Tracy. That’s not fair’’ she sulked. ‘’but I never asked for all these. I never wanted a child with you. You took the decision yourself. Just look at me, this isn’t what I planned for myself.’’ I pushed. ‘’you are hundred percent sure of Tracy’s love right?’’ she asked while I nodded instantly. ‘’fine, I have already told her everything and equally sent her pictures to back up my claim, let’s just wait for her reaction. That will decide everything’’ she muttered, leaving me totally enraged. ‘’what did you did?’’ I shouted.

Episode 7

Jude’s side of the story continues

‘’I did the right thing my dear. It’s now or never’’ she replied softly. I angrily stared at her, uncertain of what to do with the news. I felt like smashing her head with a rock that moment. I had to run back into the sitting room to avoid doing anything I would regret later.

I barely had settled down when Tracy’s call came through, scaring the hell out of me. I stared at my phone, so afraid to answer her call.

‘’what do I do now?’’ I wondered as my phone rang for the second time.

‘’Should I keep on lying or should I just admit the truth once and for all?’’ I wondered miserably.

‘’dear lord, help me’’ I prayed as my phone rang for the third time. I couldn’t get myself to answer her call.
After some minutes, I made up my mind and dialed back Tracy’s number, ready to face the consequences of my deceit. You can’t imagine how loud my heart pounded that very moment or how badly I shook as if I was suffering from severe cold.

‘’is it true?’’ I heard Tracy ask as soon as she picked up my call. I swallowed hard, unable to say a word. Of course what was there to say?. Her question was so direct and on point.

‘’my love’’ I stammered.

‘’is it true?’’ she asked once again.

‘’I don’t understand’’ I breathed, trying hard to build my confidence.

‘’did you betray me Jude?’’ she asked softly, wounding me with the softness of her voice. Her question really pierced my heart like a Greek arrow. My eyes melted with great remorse but my tears were of no use because she wasn’t there to notice.

‘’I don’t understand’’ I stammered once again.

‘’So Pamela is for real after all?. She’s having your child. She’s right there with you. Why Jude, why lead me this far only to dump me in the middle of the ocean?’’ she asked, killing me with every single word she breathed. I just had no excuse to give, no explanation at hand, no lie to tell.

‘’I gave you my love, my life, my soul. I hid nothing from you but what did you repay me with?. Misery, pain, disappointment. You can’t even talk anymore. It’s all good. Thank you’’ she breathed and hung up, shutting me out of her heart with those painful parting words. I tried calling her back but unfortunately her phone was switched off.

I fell on my knees and sobbed. I knew I had lost a treasure, a rare noble woman. A gift God gave me without me asking. I knew I would never get someone like her in my life. I knew it was all over that very moment.
I couldn’t help but wonder what exactly Pamela told her. I badly wished I was in Nigeria. It would have been easy for me if I was close to her.

I rushed out like a mad man and pounced on Pamela who was so shocked to see me looking like a terrified bull. She quickly tried to get up and probably run for her life but unfortunately for her, I grabbed and pushed her with great force, throwing caution to the wind.
She fell heavily on the floor, screaming with great pain. A strong hand quickly grabbed me from behind, surprising me. I turned to see Uncle Tony breathing down heavily on me, the look of disappointment clearly visible on his face. I instantly felt embarrassed and ashamed of myself.

‘’I can’t stand. Help me’’ Pamela weakly begged from the floor, getting back our attention with her cry.

Episode 8

Jude’s side of the story continues

‘’what the hell is wrong with you Jude?. Do you want to kill her?’’ Uncle Tony asked with anger as he dutifully helped Pamela up. I couldn’t say a word to him. In fact I had nothing to say because he really took me by surprise with his presence. I never noticed him walk him, perhaps in my fury I failed to notice him as I pounced on Pamela.

‘’are you alright?’’ he carefully asked Pamela who was still shaking with fright.

‘’I don’t know. I feel somehow’’ she breathed heavily.

‘’do you want me to take you to your doctor?’’ he pushed on while I looked silently.

‘’no I’m okay’’ she stammered.

‘’maybe I should take you to my wife then. She’s a nurse’’ he added seriously, leaving Pamela with no choice than to accept.

‘’wait for me here. I will be right back’’ he said to me with a strong voice. I looked down, saying nothing. I couldn’t help but wonder what was going through his mind that moment. I had to think out a good excuse and explanation for my action as quickly as possible.

———————–

Uncle Tony returned a minute later, looking very serious and curious.
‘’tell me, who is she?. Don’t you know you can easily go to jail for hitting a woman in this country?’’ he asked seriously. I shrugged, finding it difficult to say anything.

‘’young man you have to start talking to me’’ he barked.

‘’she’s my friend’’ I stammered.

‘’your friend as in girlfriend?’’ he asked. I nodded.

‘’and she’s pregnant for you?’’ he pushed on, I nodded.

‘’how is that possible?, tell me the truth, when was the last time you were in this country?”’ he asked with disbelief.

‘’actually she just left Nigeria months ago’’ I stammered.

‘’oh I see’’ he breathed, looking down.

‘’so what’s your plan with her and why did you hit her?’’ he asked.

‘’it was just a little misunderstanding and I lost my temper. I’m sorry uncle, it won’t happen again. As for plans I really have no plans for her. She has a home and family that will take care of her’’ I managed to mutter. He shrugged silently.
His countenance really showed that he was having a hard time believing my explanation.

‘’seriously I’m a bit disappointed in you but what can I say?. You are now a man and it’s your cross but don’t ever try to hit her again. I was here for something else but I think that should wait for now’’ he muttered and left with a drawn face. I couldn’t help but wonder what his reaction would have been supposing I told him that Pamela was equally another man’s wife. Of course I shot myself on the leg by getting involved with her in the first place.

About an hour later, I went back to Uncle Tony’s house to fetch Pamela. It was something I forced myself to do in order to change the bad impression my earlier behavior gave out to my benefactor. I just had to show genuine remorse as if all was now well.
Pamela was at the sitting room, quietly watching a TV program with uncle Tony’s wife when I walked in. she instantly sat up on seeing me while I smiled softly, approaching her like a gentleman.

‘’I’m very sorry for hitting you. I promise it won’t happen again. Let’s go home’’ I begged, squatting before her, looking very innocent and remorseful. She stared at me hesitantly, before throwing a quick look at Uncle Tony’s wife who nodded in agreement.
Yes of course Pamela was such a great actor. She looked so innocent, weak and vulnerable like an abused lady. She just took my mistake to her advantage and cashed in big time with it. No one would have imagined that she was the architect of my frustration.

‘’let’s go home dear’’ I breathed once again. She nodded and offered her hand. I dutifully helped her up.

‘’I’m also sorry for getting on your nerves’’ she softly apologized to me as if she meant every word.

‘’I’m sorry Jude. I really do love you’’ she breathed softly with her eyes all over me.

Kelvin’s side of the story continues

I returned to my house later in the day to see Jessica anxiously waiting for me. The look of relief on her face as she saw me walk in was totally revealing.

‘’where went you and why haven’t you been answering my calls?. You left me totally worried my love’’ she asked breathlessly. I smiled and shrugged.

‘’I went to see my friends and take care of few things. You know I promised my parents that I would be home today. I think I have to make the journey now’’ I muttered quickly. She drew forward and held me.

‘’no my love, just leave the journey for tomorrow. We have to go together and use the opportunity to spend Christmas with them. It’s better that way. Spending Christmas with your family is what we need to get out of this setback’’ she suggested, leaving a smile on my face as her words appeared pleasant to me.

‘’one other thing my love’’ she added, holding me tightly.

‘’I plan selling my house and moving in with you. I have already contacted an agent for the sale. By January I believe the house will be sold, making us richer. I will also speak with the priest and get a new date for our wedding but this time it will be a private affair. What do you think?’’ she asked, leaving me speechless as a thousand and one questions sprang up in my head at the same time.

‘’why is she rushing to sell off the house??’’ hmmmmm

Episode 9

Jude’s side of the story continues

9pm, Jude’s bedroom

‘’my love, make love to me. I need it, our child needs it’’ Pamela begged like a s-x starved young widow as she caressed my chest. I simply lay motionless on the bed while my mind and heart wandered out. All that was on my mind was no one but Tracy.
I just wished I was already in Nigeria to be with her, to explain things to her, to get back her heart. It was something I badly needed to do but unfortunately rushing back home wasn’t an option to me that moment because I was yet to conclude with my dad’s lawyer. Of course I knew the more time I stayed away from my Tracy, the more her heart would harden towards me, a very good opportunity to push our relationship out of her heart. I couldn’t help but wonder what she was passing through that moment. Oh yea, I was in a very difficult situation.

‘’why are you so cold to me?. This is your way of punishing me right?’’ I heard Pamela hiss as she softly shook me. I stared at her, unable to say anything.
Yes I kind of felt Pamela really was sincerely in love with me because that could only explain her reason of leaving her comfortable life as a senator’s young wife to be with me, not minding my cold attitude towards her nor my financial situation. She really put herself at great risk by being with me but unfortunately for her she meant nothing much to me.

‘’I never Imagined I would ever beg for s-x in my life’’ I soon heard her sulk as she angrily backed me. I closed my eyes, making no move to apologize or make peace with her.

—————————

Kelvin’s side of the story continues

‘’there is no need selling the house. You can easily rent it out, unless of course you are hiding something from me’’ I said to Jessica who shrugged and smiled.

‘’I want to sell it and that’s it. I can easily get a better house with the money’’ she said seriously.

‘’I pray our marriage works because I know you will never obey my decisions or take my suggestion in anything. I still don’t know you. I don’t know if I should be relieved or sad for what happened to us yesterday’’ I breathed and headed to my room while she followed me, obviously disturbed by my comment.

‘’I’m sorry dear, from now onwards you will be the one to make all the decisions’’ she pleaded quickly. I turned and stared at her for some seconds.

‘’I should believe that?’’ I asked.

‘’yes yes yes’’ she breathed quickly.

————————

9pm, Kelvin’s bedroom

I was busy thinking how to face my parents the next day, when Jessica softly placed her head on my chest.

‘’I wanted to break this news on our wedding night but unfortunately everything was ruined’’ she breathed, kissing my chest softly. I stared at her, eagerly awaiting the news.

‘’I’m pregnant. I’m having your baby’’ she announced happily, leaving a fake smile on my face with the news. Naturally I was supposed to be happy with the news but on the contrary I felt a bit uncomfortable without knowing the reason even though I perfectly hid my real feelings with a smile.

‘’we will soon start a big family. God all my dreams are becoming reality’’ she proclaimed while I closed my eyes, quickly remembering what we did to Cynthia who was the first lady to get pregnant for me. I instantly became nauseous and scared for no reason.

‘’tomorrow, we will break the news to your parents when we get home for Christmas’’ she added joyfully. I just couldn’t say a word.

————————————-

Early the next day, we travelled to my hometown for Christmas. Of course I was really nervous and afraid to face my people over what happened on my wedding day even though Jessica and I already had a good explanation to give for it. Somehow I felt my parents may not really buy the lie and that could make matters worse.

However on getting to the village, Jessica took control of the situation by first starting a cry the moment she got down from my car, leaving my parents with no choice than to hug her.

‘’they thought ruining my wedding would make me stop loving your son. They thought bringing the police to intimidate me would kill the love I have for my Kelvin but they got it all wrong. My love for him only increased’’ she sobbed seriously.

‘’the lady in question was your son’s ex girlfriend. She found out we were getting married and brought in the police to stop our wedding, claiming that we tried to kill her. Some ladies are very evil’’ she explained with crocodile tears while my parents who easily bought everything she dished out started cursing Cynthia while I speechlessly looked on.

Episode 10

Jude’s side of the story continues

On 27th December, my dad’s lawyer paid me an early morning visit. To be candid, I wasn’t really enjoying my stay in US anymore, I desperately wanted to round up things with him and return home to settle with Tracy before it gets late.

‘’I’m sorry for taking much time before coming. I travelled to California for xmas. I just got home last night’’ the young lawyer explained softly as if I asked him.

‘’I went through the documents you gave me but unfortunately there wasn’t anything substantial in it to prove that a lady killed your father. But with the documents we can only establish a little prove that your dad actually had a business deal with a lady in Nigeria. As your late dad’s lawyer, I was really the person that made all the money transfer’s he sent to the lady in question and the money was wired directly into a Nigerian bank account with the name Jessica Simon. I have a friend working with the EFCC; he can help us with the case. By January we will be in Nigeria to get to the root of this matter. I promise to get back your dad’s properties for you but I’m also not overlooking the fact that the lady could have bewitched or tricked your father into making her the owner of everything he owned. This could be a long legal case, especially if the lady decides to fight back and you know how bad and slow the justice system in Nigeria is?. Let’s just keep our fingerers crossed’’ he said seriously while I nodded with great attention.

————————

Kelvin’s side of the story continues

We had a wonderful xmas at home. Jessica really bought my parents heart with her pretence and calm calculative behavior. Everyone ended up falling in love with her. As for me, I had lots of other things to worry about.

9:25pm, 31st of December, Jessica walked into my room with a sweet smile on her face. She climbed over me, staring deep into my eyes.

‘’in few hours we will be entering a new year with new hopes and expectations. Tell me, how soon you will want us to get married. Next Saturday or in few weeks?’’ she asked curiously.

‘’I think we should leave that topic for now. We have a whole lot of time to talk about it. My head is not yet clear my dear’’ I breathed while she drew back, staring at me suspiciously.

‘’I hope you know it’s very much on your best interest for us to get married as soon as possible?’’ she asked.

‘’yes I know but let’s not rush it anymore’’ I stammered.

‘’but I’m pregnant. We have to do this as quickly as possible’’ she pushed on.

‘’we are leaving for the city in two days. When we get there we will make plans for it’’ I muttered, forcing out a smile. She nodded, even though the look on her face clearly showed that she really wasn’t sure of my intentions and yes I really wasn’t sure of myself equally. I kind of was strangely having a cold feet about the marriage thing perhaps it was because the experience I had the last time we tried to get married was still very much in my head.

The New Year celebrations soon came and went by with the speed of lightening. Jessica and I got back to the city on 2nd January to continue with our lives and plan for the future. Of course my future was damned; I only was trying to survive in the best possible way.

On 3rd of January, Joe invited me to his house for a little chat. I went to see him innocently without knowing that there was a reason to his invitation and so was my shock on seeing Cynthia in his house. For some seconds I just didn’t know how to react because I wasn’t expecting to see her there.
Joe quickly came to my defense by cracking a quick joke which lowered the tension in his sitting room.
I couldn’t even look at Cynthia. I couldn’t even say hello to her.

‘’you know you and I and Cynthia have come a long way as friends. We have been friends during the good and bad times of our lives and things that happened last year between you guys needs to be settled once and for all. Kelvin you are my friend, likewise Cynthia and I’m not asking you guys to go back to each other but to reach a compromise and stop fighting. Believe me Cynthia, Kelvin hasn’t been himself ever since you showed up at his wedding. He wasn’t the only one you embarrassed that day. You embarrassed me as well and I just want everything to be settled today’’ Joe demanded, facing Cynthia who shook her head and scoffed.

‘’I only came here because of the respect I have for you and not because I want to settle issues with Kelvin. I really don’t know what he told you, but your friend here tried to kill me and his baby. He connived with his Jessica, set me up, knocked me out and dumped me in a refuse dump. How on earth do you expect me to forgive him? No I can’t and I’m leaving right now’’ she poured out angrily, leaving Joe extremely surprised and shocked with her outburst. It really was the first time he was hearing such story.

‘’Cynthia that really wasn’t exactly what happened that night. I equally was a victim just as you were’’ I quickly stammered, looking into her eyes.

‘’just shut up’’ she breathed, standing up to leave but I quickly grabbed her hand, stopping her with my grasp as we exchanged glances.

The tension in the room became high once again.

Episode 11

Kelvin’s side of the story continues

‘’I’m sorry Joe but I will have to leave now. I can’t stand this despicable man any longer’’ Cynthia politely said to Joe, snatching her hand from my grasp before me nor Joe could say anything to stop her.
I quickly ran after her, so eager to make peace with her. Of course it was an opportunity of a life time, I never knew when such opportunity would come again and so I had to make good use of the one available at the moment.

I blocked Cynthia before she could get to the gate, leaving her with no choice than to stare into my eyes once again.

‘’Cynthia’’ I breathed with great pain, trying hard to come up with something tangible as quickly as possible.

‘’Cynthia’’ I stammered nervously, as I struggled to create some appeasing words to sooth her anger.

‘’you have changed so much’’ was all I could finally mutter. Cynthia scoffed, eyeing me seriously.

‘’of course I have changed. I’m now a different lady. I’m no longer the Cynthia you used to know’’ she replied rudely.
I left my eyes on her as I desperately struggled to get more words out of my mouth. Yes I just didn’t know how she did it but she was just so sophisticated, so polished and more beautiful than she used to be. The transformation in her was something seen only in movies. I couldn’t believe how she changed so much under the space of few months.

‘’Cynthia things were never as it seemed to be’’ I confessed, dropping my eyes.

‘’yes I never wanted the pregnancy at first but I never wanted to kill you because of it. Believe me’’ I struggled to say while she surprisingly listened.

‘’I never planned anything with Jessica. In fact on that very day, I was very much surprised to see you leave my house the moment I returned from Joe’s gym even though it was a big relief to me. Jessica invited me to her house later in the evening and on getting there I was extremely shocked to meet you there. Of course I was even scared you guys had some bad plans for me and before I could get to terms on what was happening, you two started fighting and she knocked you out’’ I breathed as sweat drenched my body.

‘’what was I to do?. I was confused and scared. I tried everything to revive you but you appeared dead to us and I was so scared of taking you to the hospital because I knew I would only end up in jail. No one would believe my story just as you are now finding it difficult to believe. Moreover I already had a bad record with the police and I just was so overwhelmed with fear that very night. Jessica suggested we dump your body and believe me it looked like the only way out that very moment. Perhaps it was all she planned before she invited you to her house but I knew nothing of it. I was forced to dump your body out in the cold night thinking that you were dead and believe me my conscience never remained the same after that very night and I just couldn’t face your family. I had to stay away’’ I confessed with all my heart.

‘’I had to plan a quick wedding with Jessica because it was the only way to keep our secret and equally clear my name from money laundering and fraudulent transactions I did in the past which you are very much aware of. The police have been on my neck all through the later part of last year and Jessica asked me to marry her for her to use her connections to shield me. That’s it, that’s the simple truth. I never tried to kill you in order to marry Jessica’’ I breathed seriously. Cynthia drew back, surprisingly touched by my story. Somehow I felt she still had some amount of love for me which really gave me hope.

‘’even if all you told me were true, I still can’t get my heart to accept what you did to me’’ she stammered, growing pale.

‘’I know just give me the opportunity to amend things’’ I asked eagerly.

‘’fine, first thing first, get Jessica out of your life and then we can talk’’ she muttered, breathed deeply and walked past me without another word, leaving me totally dazed and speechless.

‘’how on earth do I achieve her first demand?’’

Episode 12

Kelvin’s side of the story continues

As I headed home after the dramatic encounter with Cynthia, I couldn’t help but go through the events that led to that moment. I couldn’t believe that my simple quest to help out a cousin who lost his father could totally change my life, turning it to a long script that had no sign of ending soon.

‘’you really f–k.ed up with Cynthia. Hmmmm I just don’t know what to advice my man’’ Joe had stammered when I returned to his sitting room after speaking with Cynthia.
Cynthia’s first demand really was a tough thing to accomplish and I just didn’t know how to go about it. But then for her to ask of such a thing, for her to ask me to do away with Jessica could definitely mean that she’s still interested in me’’ I reasoned as I slowly drove home.

‘’dear Lord help me’’ I prayed as I drove into my compound only to see a big truck filled with Jessica’s things right inside my compound. Four young men were busy off loading the truck while Jessica watched on with both hands on her waist. I couldn’t believe my eyes.

‘’what’s the meaning of this?’’ I barked as I jumped out of my car, surprising the young men who quickly threw a quick look at Jessica. Of course she never told me she was bringing in her things that very day. She simply took the decision on her own, something I very much hated about her.
Sensing danger, she quickly smiled, drew forward and hugged me. I eyed her angrily, battling hard to suppress the urge to push her violently away. Of course I knew the dangers of acting in anger and I wasn’t ready to face another drama.

‘’come on my love. I’m just bringing in my things as your wife, in order to free my house for the plans we are making for it’’ she explained calmly while I swallowed hard.

‘’what’s up with you?. Where went you?. I hope you didn’t go searching for Cynthia or something?” she asked accusingly. I stared at her, my anger quickly turning into surprise as I wondered what made her ask the question.

‘’what?, why bring up Cynthia’s matter now?’’ I stammered. She scoffed, backing away from me.

‘’I know men, sometimes you guys act like kids’’ she breathed, shrugged, turned and joined the men moving her things to my house while I silently stood and thought of how to follow her up as Cynthia’s demand rang in my head over and over.

‘’how do I send her away?. How do I end all these?. Can I really live with this woman as my wife?. Dear Lord, I’m just a confused man’’ I breathed solemnly.
Yes Jessica had her own plans for me, Cynthia equally had her own plans well prepared but instead of having my own plans; I was right in the middle like a confused lost cow.

9pm, 4th January , Jude’s bedroom

I smiled at Pamela who was lying beside me as my head boiled with many thoughts. I caressed her face for some seconds before breathing deeply.

‘’you look so happy’’ she breathed, studying me keenly.

‘’in two days time, I will be heading back to Nigeria with my dad’s lawyer to settle the pending issues I have back in Nigeria once and for all’’ I slowly explained. She sat up with a curious look. It was as if she never expected such words from me.

‘’but why? Why this January?’’ she asked quickly.

‘’the lawyer is traveling to see his family in Nigeria and wants to use the opportunity to settle my case. I didn’t fix the date, he did himself. You saw when he came in earlier today?. That was the news he brought’’ I calmly explained to her. She shook her head as she probably tried to figure out what else to say. It was obvious she was far from happy with the news.

‘’so when are you coming back?’’ she asked softly.

‘’I don’t know yet but it could be next year. I have to round up my studies as well. You see that’s the reason why you should go back to your husband. You can’t rush me to do things that I’m not yet ready to do’’ I explained softly.

‘’I will wait for you Jude. I will go back to my husband, but I will be with him only for some months. Once I have my child, I will come looking for you. Even if you are hiding in Nigeria, I will find you’’ she said seriously while I shrugged, unable to say anything.
The only thing I was really looking forward to was returning to Nigeria to settle my father’s mysterious case and equally settle with my Tracy even though I knew making peace with Tracy was now almost impossible because she probably had already erased me from her heart. I couldn’t help but wonder what her New Year resolutions were. Of course I knew I would make the list but in a very bad way.
I couldn’t believe I could survive staying for weeks without speaking with her.

January 6th, I landed back in Nigeria with my lawyer. Oh yea, I was so filled with excitement and great energy.

Episode 13

Jude’s side of the story continues

On getting to Lagos, my lawyer pleadingly told me that he would be spending a week with his family.

‘’I will be back in a week, just get yourself ready for the task ahead. Expect my call from next Monday’’ he had said to me before we parted ways. I spent the night in a hotel and very early the next morning I headed down to Owerri.

My first port of call on getting to Owerri was Kelvin’s house. No matter our differences he was still the closest family member I had and yes I really had every reason to see him.
You can’t imagine the surprise on his face when I walked into his sitting room. He just stared at me as if he couldn’t believe his eyes.

‘’Jude!’’ he exclaimed with great energy as he sprang up with happiness, hugging me.

‘’you never told me you were coming?’’ he asked happily.

‘’I wanted to surprise you’’ I answered with a smile. I couldn’t help but notice how slim he had grown. It was very obvious he wasn’t enjoying his marriage with Jessica.

‘’so how about your wife?. Where is she?’’ I asked.

‘’hmmm my wife?. My wedding ceremony with Jessica never held. It’s a long story bro. anyway she’s now living with me’’ he muttered with a slightly drawn face.

‘’so where is she?’’ I asked faintly.

‘’she is yet to return from where she went. We really have a long gist to share’’ he muttered, flashing a quick smile while I stared at him with surprise.

‘’well sit down and listen to my story’’ he added faintly.

Kelvin really had a long story to tell. I listened with rapt attention as he narrated all that happened since I left the country the previous year. The more I listened, the more sympathetic I grew towards him.

‘’I believe everything that happened on your wedding day was for good. Jessica isn’t a good woman and I still can’t believe how she tactfully roped you into her mess. But don’t worry, I came back with my dad’s lawyer and by the time we are through with her, you will definitely see her true colors.’’ I muttered while he shrugged with resignation.

‘’I know you won’t accept to spend the night here because of Jessica right?’’ he asked after few minutes of silence.

‘’hmmmm, I’m spending the night at my hostel and I have to get going’’ I smiled and got up.

‘’you won’t even eat anything here?’’ he asked anxiously.

‘’I’m fine bro, I can take care of myself’’ I answered calmly while he shrugged once again.

———————

I headed to Crunchies for a quick meal before returning to my Hostel to rest, sleep and plan for the journey ahead which was of course paying a visit to my Tracy. I really was anxious and scared at the same time. I just didn’t know what to expect from her and with prayers in my lips I slept off that fateful night.

Kelvin’s side of the story continues

9:15pm, Kelvin’s bedroom

‘’Jude is back, he was here this evening’’ I softly informed Jessica who simply scoffed and sat up.

‘’that’s good for him, hope he had a good time over there’’ she muttered softly.

‘’listen Jessica, I still don’t know the kind of relationship you had with that boy’s father or what really transpired between you two but in the name of God, if you are holding tight to anything belonging to him, kindly give it back. Believe me, I will support him over you if he decides to come after you. If you really wish to be part of my family, then you have to act like one of us by doing the right thing’’ I begged her softly. She dropped her eyes, keeping quiet for some seconds.

‘’you won’t understand Kelvin but I have heard you’’ she breathed, leaving me curious as ever.

‘’understand what?’’ I asked eagerly.

‘’never mind my dear. I have heard you’’ she replied with a smile, leaving me in great suspense.

The next day, Jude’s side of the story continues

By 11am, I found myself in front of Tracy’s family house, waiting for her to come out and usher me inside. I really left my hostel as early as 6am, for the long heart skipping journey.
I just found it hard to breathe as I eagerly waited for Tracy to show up.

Finally, the big gate opened, revealing Tracy who looked so slim and pale. She just looked very dry in my eyes and I couldn’t help but feel that she was still suffering over my betrayal. I couldn’t even look her in the face for up to a minute.

‘’why are you here Jude?. If you are seeking forgiveness, then you shouldn’t bother, I already forgave you last year. We shouldn’t carry grudges to a new year, should we?’’ she muttered softly while I nodded, unable to say a word.
I just shook before her, trembling like a sick child and the January harmattan wasn’t helping either.

‘’as for our relationship, you should know that it ended last year. To me you are as good as a married man. You can leave me now’’ she added calmly while I managed to bring up my face to meet her gaze.

‘’you already passed judgment on me without hearing my side of the story’’ I asked breathlessly.

‘’yes I did, because I’m not a stupid girl’’ she answered and shut the gate on my face without caring how cold the weather was that fateful morning.

Episode 14

Jude’s side of the story continues

I knew making up with Tracy was never going to be easy but I never expected her to lock me out of her house without at least first listening to my own version of the story nor considering the long journey I took to get to her house.
I stood outside the compound like a stranded man, so clueless on what next to do. Of course I couldn’t just start going back to where I came from. I had to stay put for a while and pray for a miracle to happen.

For up to four hours, I stood under the cold weather, which soon gave way for a not too painful sunlight, yet Tracy refused to change her mind and speak to me. It was as if she even thought I had gone back to where I came from. And I really had the urge to shout her name until she was forced to come out but unfortunately I had no strength for such a thing because I was already very tired, hungry and weak. Moreover such action could easily be misinterpreted in the quiet neighborhood.

By 4pm, when I was about giving up on my quest and leaving the neighborhood, Tracy’s mother luckily showed up at the gate with her car. She stopped the moment she saw me and beckoned on me to come forward.

‘’Jude is that you?. Are you just coming?. Why are you sitting outside?’’ she asked curiously. I heaved a sigh of relief as I realized that Tracy was probably yet say badly about me to her mum.

‘’I just got here ma, Tracy doesn’t want to talk to me’’ I stammered, not knowing what else to say.

‘’get into my car then’’ she offered, opening the passenger’s door for me. I quickly jumped in, forcing out an innocent smile while praying in my heart for Tracy not to tell the real cause of our fight to her mum when she asks for an explanation.

The gate was soon thrown open and in few seconds, we were inside the big house. Of course you can’t imagine Tracy’s surprise on seeing me with her mother. She looked so shocked and angry.

‘’Tracy dear what did Jude do to you?. Why did you leave him outside or were you not aware of his presence?’’ her mother asked her as she settled down in the living room. I just couldn’t breathe as I fearfully waited for Tracy’s reply but luckily she said nothing.

‘’mum just stay out of this please. I don’t want to talk about it with anyone’’ she finally muttered coldly and walked out on her mum, really surprising the old woman.

‘’what has gotten into her?’’ she asked me with a drawn face while I shrugged.

‘’I heard you travelled out of the country, when did you return?’’ she slowly asked me, making me feel a bit at home with the question, in no time we started chatting like mother and son.

Later in the evening after supper

I went out in search of Tracy to see if I could talk to her again. Luckily I found her at the backyard, busy with her phone.

‘’Trey dear’’ I stammered, sitting beside her. She stared at me for a while, sighed and kept quiet.

‘’I’m sorry for everything and I’m here to explain. I just want you to listen please’’ I stammered fearfully.

‘’I don’t want to talk to you Jude. You are just lucky I didn’t tell my family what you did. You should respect yourself and back away. It’s over between us and nothing will change that. You can stay here if you want’’ she coldly replied, stood up and walked out on me.

————————

Kelvin’s side of the story continues

I really had a lot to think after Jude showed up at my house the previous day. I was caught in between helping him out, being neutral or standing by Jessica. Of course I knew Jessica’s hands weren’t clean but I still couldn’t figure out anything strong to pin her with crime. She was just always ahead of me and somehow I feared for my cousin’s safety even though I had a little reservation about that. I believed if Jessica had wanted to harm him, she would have done it months ago when no one would have noticed.

Setting up a new wedding date with Jessica was another thing that bugged my mind. I really wasn’t eager to marry her like I was the previous year and I just was scared of what her reaction would be if I was to tell her the truth. Moreover she was already living with me, something I wasn’t happy about and then Cynthia’s reappearance was another thing I just couldn’t easily live with. I just really can’t tell what exactly I was feeling for Cynthia. It was a bit of fear, likeness, regrets and passion. I always looked forward to seeing her without knowing the reason. Her changed look equally made me more attracted to her.

I was in this state of mind when I headed out to the bar, down the street to drink a little. I barely had settled down when a familiar looking lady walked up and sat opposite me on the same table. I stared at her for some seconds as my memory did a quick work of bringing up her file in my head.

‘’Emmanuela’’ I stammered

‘’yes Mr. Kelvin. Happy new year’’ she muttered with a killing smile.

Episode 15

Kelvin’s side of the story continues

‘’what’s up with you?. You always appear and disappear like a ghost’’ I smiled broadly, studying the pretty lady keenly. She was the last person I expected to see at that very place but somehow her presence kind of brought up my spirit.

‘’actually I came here to meet a friend before I spotted you. You don’t look very bright. Hope everything is alright?’’ she asked with a smile. I shrugged and kept quiet for some seconds, bringing up my eyes to meet her gaze.

‘’I kind of searched for you after you mysteriously showed up at my bachelor night’’ I muttered guardedly, trying to start a conversation. She drew back slowly as if I just touched a sensitive topic.

‘’I don’t know but I do feel that you have something to tell me, probably about your friend Jessica’’ I pushed on.

‘’how are you sure about that?’’ she asked, dropping her eyes.

‘’come on, don’t make this hard for me. The truth is that I’m still very skeptical about marrying your friend’’ I muttered slowly.

‘’and you think it’s wise telling me such a secret, knowing full well that I’m Jessica’s friend?’’ she asked with a smile.

‘’what drink should I ask the waiter to bring for you?’’ I asked politely. She breathed deeply.

‘’no need for that, I’m even about returning to my table’’ she answered, fetched a paper from her trouser pocket and dropped it before me.

‘’my phone number and address is in there. Call me but I won’t break my silence for free, you will have to drop something for me’’ she smiled, got up and headed to her table, leaving me wondering how she managed to arrange her phone number and address on the piece of paper as if she knew before hand that she was going to meet me there.

However one thing I felt for sure was that Emmanuella definitely had a story to tell. And she could be all I needed to unravel many things about Jessica.
‘’Or is she setting me up for something else?’’ the question somehow found a way to pop up in my head as well.

————————–

Jude’s side of the story continues
I had a very restless night at Tracy’s house. I couldn’t sleep a wink because my head battled all night with many thoughts. I really wasn’t happy with the kind of treatment Tracy melted out to me and I had no choice than to make up my mind that very night to leave her house early the next day before the insult gets out of hand.
Yes of course I knew somehow my decision to leave was a bit awkward but I had no choice than to make the decision in order to retain the little pride I had left.
Tracy was nothing else but a young girl and just like most girls her age could be totally unpredictable. She could end up blowing the whole thing out of proportion the next day, something I really couldn’t stand. So I kind of felt it was better to wait for her in school which was a neutral ground and most likely a place to settle with her without getting wholly disgraced.

By 7am, the next day, I took my bath, prepared and got ready to leave. Tracy and her mum were in the kitchen when I walked in on them with the news that I was leaving. Tracy of course appeared less concerned but her mum looked shocked.

‘’why?. I thought you are staying for some days?’’ she asked politely.

‘’no my plan was to see you guys yesterday and leave for my village early today’’ I lied.

‘’I hope it isn’t because of Tracy’s attitude that you are leaving?’’ she asked curiously.

‘’no’’ I stammered, looking down.

‘’by the way what exactly is the cause of the quarrel going on between you guys?’’ she asked, throwing a quick look at Tracy. I couldn’t say a word because there was nothing to say. of course I couldn’t lie before Tracy to avoid being embarrassed.

‘’hmmmm I see no one wants to talk to me. But at least you can stay for breakfast before leaving’’ she demanded while I silently shrugged with resignation.

———————————

An hour later, I was on my way back to Owerri with a broken heart and a shattered soul. The only option I had left concerning Tracy was to wait till she shows up for the new semester which was equally going to be our final year in school.

I couldn’t afford losing Tracy but I had no choice than to start planning towards any eventuality.

Episode 16

Kelvin’s side of the story continues

Over the next few days, I strongly restrained myself from calling Emmanuelle to learn all I felt she wanted to tell me. I just couldn’t get myself to call her because I was a little bit scared of jumping into things and making the same mistake I made with Jessica. I kind of felt Emmanuelle had a hidden motive behind her sweet offer; moreover everything about her was a bit weird.
However on Saturday morning, I fought off my reservations and called her on phone for the first time.

‘’hmmm finally you called’’ she giggled happily after I introduced myself.

‘’I’m sorry dear, I have been busy. So how do we see again?’’ I asked, expecting her to mention somewhere public but to my surprise she asked me to come over to her house.

‘’I gave you my house address. If you want us to see, simply come over to my house this evening’’ she answered, leaving me totally speechless for some seconds.

‘’ok then, I will be there by 4pm’’ I finally muttered and hung up while a thousand and one thoughts raced through my head.

‘’Kelvin you have to be careful. This lady is probably up to no good’’ I couldn’t help but advice myself over and over. And so Instead of making the visit by 4pm, I stayed back at my house and watched TV. Of course curiosity always leads one to danger more than anything.
I was definitely yet to get out of my present predicament and couldn’t afford letting down my guard once again.

Jude’s side of the story continues
The next few days were extremely uneventful and boring. I couldn’t do anything than to think about my Tracy every single time I was alone. My world simply looked empty and useless. I just had nothing to look up to anymore.

The next Monday, my lawyer gave me a call, inviting me to an office along Wethral road. I hurried over to meet him there, so anxious to proceed with the pending cases at hand.
At the office I was introduced to another lawyer who I was told would be in the best position to help me.

‘’Jude meet my brother barrister Clems Chike. I just briefed him about your situation and he offered to assist us in every possible way. Now concerning the lady in question, do you have any new information about her?’’ my lawyer introduced his friend before asking with a serious look.

‘’’yes she’s is now living with my cousin. I can take you guys to meet her very early tomorrow before she leaves the house’’ I quickly answered.

‘’good, that settles it. Tomorrow we will go and have a chat with her’’ he added while his friend nodded.

By 8am the next day, my lawyer and his partner barrister Clems were already seated in Kelvin’s sitting room. Kelvin sat a distance away, looking very frightened like a cornered rat while I kept a straight face, avoiding his eyes. Seriously supposing he wasn’t very close to me, I would have thought he had a hand in everything.

Jessica soon showed up from the bedroom, clutching a brown big envelope and looking very serious.

‘’my name is barrister Clems. I’m here to represent my client Jude. I got a very touching report from him about his father’s death and missing properties and we are here to peacefully ask you to return everything his dad left in your care. That’s all we came for. We are not here to investigate or cause trouble unless of course you want it to go the difficult way. We already have every necessary documents relating to the transactions Jude’s father did with you and we believe as a very smart lady you wouldn’t want us visiting the court over this trivial issue’’ barrister Clems said seriously without wasting any time. Jessica breathed deeply, threw a quick look at Kelvin before shrugging.

‘’you guys have no slightest idea the kind of relationship I had with Jude’s father. I didn’t steal anything from anyone but I get it. No one would believe me and I know it’s because of the house. So for peace to reign, here are the house documents, they are all in my name but you can have it. I’m not contesting anything with you guys. Take the documents and take possession of the house. I don’t need it’’ she breathed, quickly handing over the brown envelope to barrister Clems who opened it with shaking hands while we looked on with great shock and surprise.

It was so easy. I just couldn’t believe it was all real. Somehow I felt Jessica was up to something else but what could that be??

Episode 17

Jude’s side of the story continues

I couldn’t believe myself. It just looked like a dream. I couldn’t believe Jessica could really do what she just did without a single argument. My lawyers equally weren’t expecting such move from her. And for a minute the whole room was dead quiet as if a ghost just passed by.
Barrister Clems finally broke the silence in the room after quickly going through the documents.

‘’everything here appears fine to me. Thank you madam for doing the right thing but we will still reach out to you if we need anything else’’ he quickly muttered, but his statement kind of provoked Jessica who quickly flared up.

‘’there is nothing else to reach me out for. I just gave you guys a house that was bought for me just for peace to reign, simply leave my house right now. I don’t want to see you guys ever again’’ she shouted, jumping on her feet and leaving us very worried with her sudden change of attitude. Kelvin couldn’t even utter a word, of course what was there to say though?.

‘’we have to leave now’’ barrister Clems said to me, standing up with his friend. I quickly joined them and together we left the house without another word.
I really was so overjoyed in getting back my dad’s house but equally somehow disturbed over the comment Jessica made about giving back what was duly hers just for peace to reign.

‘’could my dad have given her the house as I gift?’’ I couldn’t help but wonder over and over.

‘’I will first have to check the authenticity of the documents before we move to the next procedure. I will contact you in two days. Just relax things are really working out much more than we hoped’’ barrister Clems, said to me as we headed back to his office, breaking into my thoughts. I couldn’t say anything to him, instead I smiled quietly.

———————-

Kelvin’s side of the story continues

I couldn’t believe myself as Jessica simply handed over the house documents without any fight nor argument. It was as if she already had it all planned out. To me what she did was simply wonderful even though she never carried me on with her plans. And as soon as Jude and his lawyers left, I went after her at the bedroom.

‘’my dear what just happened?’’ I asked with a smile, sitting beside her on the bed.

‘’what do you want to hear now huh?’’ she breathed coldly.

‘’my dear’’ I muttered softly, touching her right hand.

‘’you wanted me to do the right thing and I just did. I did it for you. Hope you are now happy??’’ she asked with a raised tone, putting me off with her attitude. But I still appeared calm.

‘’yes but you know, you could have carried me along with your plans. I still don’t know how you got the house at the first place or your relationship with Jude’s father. I keep hearing a different story every day. Can’t you just tell me the whole truth once and for all?’’ I demanded softly. She eyed me and hissed.

‘’just let me be, please I beg of you’’ she shouted, turned and faced the wall, really annoying me with her strange response.
She never uttered any other word to me that morning no matter how hard I tried to make her talk and there wasn’t any doubt she was very hurt over what she did. However what I couldn’t figure out was the reason why she easily gave up the house without a fight. A house she was planning earlier to sell. Of course she said she did it for me but somehow I felt she was lying. Her attitude that morning was nothing but a big mystery to me and I resolved that moment to pay a visit to Emmanuella to hear what she had to say.

———————————————-

4pm same day, I found myself on my way to Emmanuela’s house for a date. I had called her earlier requesting to see her and just like I feared she asked me to come over to her house by 4pm.

‘’ hope I won’t be facing the worst by visiting her?’’ I couldn’t help but wonder.

Episode 18

Kelvin’s side of the story continues

‘’dear lord, hope I’m doing the right thing?’’ I nervously prayed as I knocked at the door of Emanuella’s apartment that fateful evening. Of course I really didn’t know what to expect from her. It could be a setup. It could be anything.

Emmanuella soon opened the door, smiling softly as our eyes met. My hormones quickly flared up as my eyes fell on her outfit which was extremely sexy. She was putting on a transparent sleeveless top, which showcased not only a big part of her succulent bosoms but the n.ipples as well (she wasn’t putting on bra). She equally was putting on a very short mini skirt which displayed a big part of her laps. In fact she was just dressed like a lady who wasn’t expecting any male visitor.
I pretended not to notice her dressing, forcing out a defiant look as I smiled back to her.

‘’finally you made it to my house. Halleluya’’ she breathed as she led me into her small sitting room which was neatly arranged.

‘’I know my sitting room isn’t the type you are used to but not everyone is as rich as Jessica’’ she joked as I settled down, quickly fetching a bottle of wine from a fridge close by. I stared at the wine suspiciously, shaking my head and trying to be polite at the same time.

‘’that really isn’t necessary. I only came to hear what you have to say about Jessica’’ I muttered softly.

‘’hmmm and what did you bring for me then?’’ she asked with a smile, dropped the wine on a stool and faced me.

‘’hmmmm ok so tell me what you need?’’ I kind of asked with a curious look. She shrugged, sat down and shook her head.

‘’actually Jessica is a very good friend of mine. We have known each other for almost nine years. And she is someone that takes every risk to get whatever she wants. Her banking job was able to introduce her to a whole lot of people. She cashed in on the opportunity and made lots of friends. She has dated up to forty rich guys over the past nine years I have known her and you are the youngest so far. I really was surprised when she introduced you as her fiancée’’ she slowly opened up, stopping for a while perhaps to see my reaction but unfortunately what she just told me wasn’t exactly what I was expecting to hear and I couldn’t stop myself from hiding my disappointment.

‘’is that all??’’ I asked with frustration. She smiled, opened the bottle of wine and poured out a little for herself. I just was impatient as I waited for her to either continue or tell me that was done.

‘’I known most of Jessica’s secrets but you are not expecting me to snitch on my friend without any compensation in return’’ she slowly muttered, studying me with her eyes.

‘’so what do you want exactly’’ I asked quickly but before she could answer, someone knocked on her door.

‘’please you have to hide in my bedroom, I wouldn’t want any of my friends to see you here’’ she quickly said with a worried look, stood up and virtually dragged me to her bedroom, where she locked me up and returned to her sitting room.

You can’t believe I stayed in there at her bedroom for close to two hours while she chatted endlessly with her visitor. I waited in frustration, so bitter and angry with myself for coming there in the first place.
It was really one of the most boring periods of my life as I simply stayed locked up in her room like a petty thief.

Finally around 6:45pm, she unlocked the door and walked in with an apologetic smile.

‘’I’m so sorry dearie. The annoying girl just refused to leave and I just couldn’t find a way to send her out. I’m so sorry for keeping you here. Thank God she left at last’’ she apologized, drew foreword, held my face with her palms for a while before surprising me with a very hot kiss and instead of backing away, I just didn’t know what got into me and i kissed her back, eagerly grabbing her b00bs that got my attention from the very moment I walked into her apartment.

Episode 19

Kelvin’s side of the story continues

I caressed and kissed Emanuella for some seconds before getting control of my emotions, softly I pushed her off me.

‘’I’m sorry, I have to leave’’ I stammered. She looked down and backed me, perhaps out of embarrassment or something else.

‘’I guess we got carried away right?’’ she breathed slowly.

‘’yea and I have to leave now. I will call you later’’ I replied and headed towards the bedroom door.

‘’stop’’ she suddenly breathed, grabbing my hand. I stopped and stared at her curiously.

‘’how about Jessica’s story?, are you not interested anymore?’’ she asked softly. I shrugged, breathing heavily.

‘’I will call you when I get home. We can arrange another date but for now I have to go’’ I replied with a smile while she softly released my hand.

‘’alright then, I will wait for your call’’ she muttered with resignation. I nodded, turned and left without another word.
However as I drove home that fateful evening, I couldn’t help but imagine all I would have done with her body using the opportunity I had. Her succulent lips, b00bs, as.s and body just couldn’t get out of my head. I really had the urge of going back to her to finish what we started. I badly felt like having rough s-x with her. She just had the kind of body I needed to release all tensions in me with one great eruption.
I couldn’t just get her out of my mind that evening and somehow I felt I messed up by running away like a coward instead of tasting all she offered with great energy.

On getting to my house, I met Jessica in the sitting room probably waiting for me.

‘’hi dear’’ I greeted, drew close and pecked her, quickly remembering her behavior that pushed me out of the house earlier.

‘’where went you?. You were with a woman huh?. You smell so different’’ she suddenly flared up, sitting up with a worried look. I stared back at her with great guilt as I quickly wondered if she was pulling my legs or simply asking something she was very sure of.

‘’what do you mean?’’ I asked defensively.

‘’I knew it. You were with Cynthia right?. I suspected it. I knew since she showed up you haven’t been yourself. You have been trying to make up with her. Just smell yourself. Her stench is all over you’’ she shouted, stood up and headed to the bedroom. I just didn’t know what to do or say that moment. I never expected such outburst from her neither did I expect her to accuse Cynthia of anything.

She soon showed up at the sitting room once again, this time around she was dressed up like someone on her way out.

‘’this rubbish stops today. Cynthia must pay for all the pain she is causing me. She will face me tonight’’ she shouted as she headed towards the door, forcing me to stop her by grabbing her left hand.

‘’where do you think you are going?. I hope your head is still okay?. I left the house because of you earlier, because of your character. You weren’t talking to me, you were acting strange and I had to leave to cool the anger in me. I’m now back home and what did I get from you?. Accusation. What made you think that I still have something to do with Cynthia?. Someone that will gladly kill me with any chance she gets huh?. So where the hell are you going?. You served me no lunch today and instead of serving my dinner you are heading out on a silly mission.’’ I shouted at her with all my strength. She bit her lips for some seconds, drew back and slapped me, totally taking me by surprise.

‘’don’t try lying to me Kelvin. If you weren’t with Cynthia who then were you with?. The scent coming from your body, from your shirt belongs to no other person than Cynthia. I’m very sure of that because the scent is distinctively familiar’’ she pushed on.
I couldn’t believe she slapped me. I just felt like hitting her back but something held me.

‘’Cynthia is only trying to get back at me but she doesn’t know that I’m ready for her. I know all the tricks and she just stepped on a very dangerous snake. Just get the f.uck out of my way’’ she hissed, walked past me and headed out of the sitting room.
A minute later, I heard the sound of her car as she drove out of my compound. I couldn’t help but imagine where she was exactly going to that very moment because I believed she really didn’t know where Cynthia was currently living or does she?..

I tried calling Cynthia’s old line to warn her but it was switched off. I was left with no choice than to stay back at home and wait for Jessica to return. Unfortunately she never returned that night.

Episode 20

Jude’s side of the story continues

I got a call early Wednesday morning from my lawyer to quickly meet him at Concorde hotel. His voice sounded very strange and distant as if something terrible had happened. I abandoned everything I was doing that morning and quickly headed over to the hotel to meet him, my heart pounding furiously like never before.
On getting to the hotel, my fears were instantly confirmed the moment my eyes fell on him. He looked so shaken like someone who just had an encounter with a ghost.

‘’good morning, what’s up?’’ I asked anxiously.

‘’barrister Clems was kidnapped yesterday evening on our way to his house. The kidnappers must have mistaken him for me because he was the one driving my car while I sat at the passenger’s corner.’’ He explained nervously, leaving my heart blank with the news. I couldn’t believe my ears. I instantly felt cold.

‘’What!, how did it happen?’’ I nervously asked as many thoughts raced through my head.

‘’the kidnappers blocked us in the middle of the street, just before Egbu junction, pushed me out and drove off with him. My new car and documents are all gone. I just don’t know where this leaves us. The police are already on the case and just this morning Clem’s wife called to tell me that the kidnappers used her husband’s phone to contact her. They demanded twenty million naira which we just don’t know how to get. So for now, I will be staying in this hotel until this issue is resolved’’ he explained weakly while I listened silently. I just couldn’t believe it. It sounded so strange. I somehow felt responsible.

‘’but are suspecting anyone?’’ I finally managed to ask.

‘’no, I just don’t know’’ he answered weakly.

Kelvin’s side of the story continues from the last episode

Very early the next day (Wednesday), Jessica returned to the house without any explanation or apology. She just acted as if I had no authority to question her, and I really was too stunned. Of course I equally was very relieved to see her back in one piece but extremely curious at the same time. I badly wanted to know where she went last night and where she slept but she refused offering any explanation to me.
She simply went into the room, undressed, headed to bathroom, took her bath, dressed up and headed out without even saying good morning to me. Of course what she failed to realize was that she was giving me more reason not to marry her but it was as if she never cared anymore or perhaps she had the confidence that since her things were already in my house that our marriage was inevitable.

By 9:30am, Emmanuela called to break some news to me.

‘’hey your wife showed up at my house yesterday evening, moments after you left. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw her, I was so scared. Can you come over by 10am?, we have a lot to talk. I have some things to tell you’’ she asked quickly and out of curiosity I accepted, forgetting the ugly thing we almost did the last time we were together.

However as I was about heading to Emmanuela’s house by 9:55am, my phone rang again and it was Jude calling this time around. I quickly answered his call with a happy smile, wondering what made him to call me. Yes our relationship wasn’t really going the way I had wanted and I really was ready to do a lot to gain back his trust.

‘’hey bro good morning. I’m really not happy. I just don’t know who to call. I’m just confused’’ he complained like a little kid while the memory of the first time I promised to help him before his father’s grave flashed back in my head.

‘’talk to me Jude, what’s the matter?’’ I asked anxiously.

‘’one of my lawyers was kidnapped yesterday evening. You have to help me, you have to do something for me’’ he stammered while I gasped with disbelief, wondering what exactly I could do to help in the situation as many ideas rushed into my head.

Episode 21

Kelvin’s side of the story continues

‘’Jude can you please come over to the house?’’ I asked him when I finally found my voice.

‘’you mean your house?, how about Jessica?’’ he asked after a little hesitation.

‘’Jessica isn’t around at the moment, just come let’s talk’’ I answered quickly.

‘’fine I will be there in few minutes’’ he replied and hung up while I fell back on my chair and thought over the news he just broke to me.
What exactly can I do to help out in this situation?, I wondered deeply

Jude showed an hour later looking very troubled and sad. I kind of felt for him as I quickly put myself in his condition.

‘’I really feel responsible for the man’s kidnap. I just don’t know what to do now. I’m so confused’’ he cried after narrating how the lawyer was kidnapped the previous evening. I just couldn’t find my voice. Of course what was there to say? The whole news came as a big shock and surprise to me.

‘’you shouldn’t feel responsible. This isn’t a new thing in this part of the country. People get kidnapped every day; it doesn’t have anything to do with your case he was handling. Unless of course you are suggesting that Jessica had him kidnapped which you very well know isn’t possible. You saw how she washed her hands off your dad’s house?. I believe she has many issues bothering her right now and won’t really try such a thing’’ I said with a smile while he shrugged.

‘’I’m not really accusing Jessica but I kind of feel responsible because if I hadn’t returned to the country with my lawyer he wouldn’t have involved his friend who got kidnapped in his place. Yes you can still help me dig around. You have friends who can be helpful. I really can’t also rule out the possibility of Jessica’s hand being in this because anything is possible these days’’ he said seriously. I laughed.

‘’you are right bro but forget about Jessica. We were busy fighting about Cynthia’s issue yesterday and I believe she wouldn’t do a stupid thing as that’’ I quickly muttered.

‘’I have to leave now. I have to go cool my head. I haven’t been myself since I got the news’’ he suddenly added, taking me by surprise with his sudden decision to leave. He was yet to even spend up to ten minutes at my house but I kind of kept my feelings to myself.

‘’okay bro, I will dig around and get back to you’’ I promised halfheartedly.

————————————–

As soon as Jude left, I busied myself with my thoughts as I weighed the possibility of Jessica being involved in the lawyer’s kidnap. But the more I thought about it the more silly it looked to me. I was yet to see anything that linked Jessica to any crime, and for the fact that she willingly left Jude’s house without any fight was enough to vindicate her.
I was still weighing all the possibilities when my phone rang and it was Emmanuela calling once again.

‘’ain’t you coming again or not?, I just left everything waiting for you. Please don’t disappoint me’’ she asked with a slightly raised tone.

‘’I’m on my way, something popped up that delayed me’’ I answered, hung up the call and quickly headed to her house without thinking of the risk involved.

Minutes later, Emmanuella’s house

‘’so what’s up?’’ I asked as I walked into her apartment. She smiled and sat beside me while I slowly studied her, leaving my eyes on her exposed b00bs for some seconds. She just had this kind of b00bs that looked so appealing, that begged to be fondled. I swallowed hungrily as I quickly brought down my eyes.

‘’Jessica spent the night in my apartment. She complained that you are trying to make up with Cynthia and I bet she’s planning something for that girl. But I really don’t know what made her spend the night at my place. I almost fainted with fear when I saw her last night. She just was looking so mean and deadly and I believe she didn’t directly come to my place from your house’’ she explained feebly.

‘’and it’s that all you have to tell me?’’ I asked, frowning.

‘’not really’’ she breathed, smiling seductively.

‘’I know you are just looking for a big excuse not to marry Jessica and I can give you the excuse you need. She told you she was pregnant right?’’ she breathed excitedly while I stared at her, unable to say anything.

‘’what if I tell you that Jessica can never get pregnant huh?. Yes she lost her womb a long time ago after an abortion went badly’’ she added, leaving me extremely shocked.

‘’are you sure you are not lying to me?’’ I asked with great energy.

‘’I’m risking my life by talking to you. You really don’t know half of what Jessica is capable of doing. Yes you are a man, I heard you are a bad boy but you are in no way close to being as bad as my friend and only me can save you from her if we come to an agreement’’ she offered, leaving me extremely stunned.

‘’so what exactly do we need to agree on?’’ I asked faintly.

‘’first thing first. Let’s make love’’ she suddenly proposed while I drew back with disbelief. It looked so real, it looked so un-African.
A woman had never made the first move to me in my life talk more of demanding for s-x without any reservation. I couldn’t just believe it. Somehow my ego instantly swelled up. I just felt like the most eligible bachelor in town.

‘’really?”’ I stammered breathlessly.

‘’oh yea’’ she answered, licking her lips.

Episode 22

Kelvin’s side of the story continues

‘’you don’t know what you just asked for. I will totally destroy you oo’’ I muttered playfully. Emanuella rolled her eyes, pulled off her top and effortlessly climbed over me as if I was nothing but an old lover.

‘’then prove it’’ she demanded seductively, rubbing her hands on my chest as I quickly weighed over the consequences in my head. Of course I really can’t say that I was in any relationship at that moment since all I was looking for was just a way to get rid of Jessica. I saw myself as a free man and felt I had every right to do whatever that pleased me with Emmanuella even though she could be another devil in disguise. I truly was a bit skeptical over her motive but luckily I had condoms in my wallet to save the day.

‘’I hope you are not going to attach any emotional thing on this at the end of the day?’’ I asked curiously, but my question kind of left her frowning.

‘’what sort of question did you just ask?. You want to put me off the mood or maybe you really don’t know how to satisfy a woman huh?’’ she breathed. I scoffed, sat upright, kissed her for a while before uneasily carrying her to the bedroom with all my energy. The pretty lady was really heavier than I had expected and I before I could get to the bedroom, I was already gasping heavily for breathe.
However we still spent close to two hours in there devouring each other with no holds barred.

———————

‘’finally we did it’’ she breathed as we pulled away from each other after the energy sucking play. I closed my eyes, slowly regaining my strength while a part of me felt guilty over the deed.

‘’I will find a way to get to my friend’s head before the end of the week and by the end of the month she will be as good as a mad woman. Trust me, I know her weak points and I will use it to destroy her’’ she breathed, leaving me as curious as ever over her real reason in wanting to deal with Jessica. It really looked a bit strange that all she needed was just a s-x session with me in order to deal with her friend.

‘’seriously I believe you have other reasons for wanting to deal with Jessica?. It’s not all about trying to help me’’ I asked softly.

‘’well you still have a lot of stories to hear. As time goes you will know everything about me and about your Jessica. How about we meet tomorrow?’’ she asked.

‘’no I don’t think I will be free tomorrow. I have a business to attend to but I must confess you are very sweet’’ I breathed, kissing her. She blushed and closed her eyes. My phone rang that moment, disrupting us.

‘’hey it’s me, Cynthia’’ the caller quickly introduced herself while I quickly sat up, like someone just caught misbehaving on duty.

‘’Cynthia is this your new number” I stammered.

‘’that isn’t necessary. How fast can you get to Emmanuel college?’’ she asked.

‘’I can be there in fifteen minutes’’ I answered quickly.

‘’fine, I’m waiting. Just drive towards the back of the school when you get there’’ she muttered and hung up while I jumped out of the bed, quickly dressing up as Emmanuella strangely carried on a cold look as if she wasn’t happy I was leaving.

‘’so you are really making up with Cynthia after all. Jessica was right’’ she asked. I simply ignored her question, dressed up and rushed out of her apartment with great excitement. As I headed out to meet Cynthia, I slowly remembered the period she meant nothing to me.
What really changed my mindset towards her?’’ I couldn’t help but wonder as I reasoned that she was probably giving me the opportunity to make up with her, something I badly wanted.

—————————————

minutes later

I curiously stared at Cynthia as I approached her where she stood waiting for me, wondering why exactly she wanted us to meet there. It really looked a bit strange to me.

‘’Jessica was at my house this morning saying all sorts of rubbish. I won’t tolerate that from her anymore and next time she shows up at my house, she will end up in jail. Tell her that’’ she said with a slightly raised tone. I couldn’t actually believe she invited me there just to say those words.

‘’but how on earth did she know your house?’’ I stammered.

‘’oh you don’t even know the type of woman you are living with?. I guess you don’t even know she is a human trafficker?’’ she sneered. I couldn’t believe my ears. It just looked like a mere fabrication.
‘’ First Emmanuella told me Jessica had no womb and now Cynthia is telling me that she’s a human trafficker as well, can it all be true?’’ I wondered seriously. I took a step closer to Cynthia.

‘’I really don’t know what to say about Jessica but its pretty obvious I made a terrible mistake with her, and I will soon fix it. Yes she is still living with me because her house was truly my cousin’s and she was forced to give it back to the owner. She has nowhere else to stay at the moment. But In few days I will find a way to kick her out’’ I stammered like a little kid.

‘’good for you’’ she shrugged with lack of interest, turned and made to walk away but I quickly held her hand, stopping her instantly. She turned with a frown. Our eyes met.

‘’Cyndy I’m really very glad that you are alive. I just couldn’t believe it when you showed up at my wedding. Trust me it looked as if you spoilt things for me that day but no you saved me like you used to do in the past. Your coming back did a lot of positive things in my life’’ I confessed, hugging her tightly.

Strangely she never forcefully pushed me away nor scolded me for hugging her. Instead after few seconds, she softly broke the hug and walked away without saying anything.

Episode 23

Kelvin’s side of the story continues

8pm, Kelvin’s bedroom

Jessica hummed a song as she walked into my bedroom from the bathroom with a towel tied round her mid-section. I left my eyes on her as my mind quickly wandered to all I recently heard about her.

‘’d–n, could the stories all be true?’’ I wondered as I watched her drop the towel and stand unclad before the wall mirror. The more I thought of it, the more irritating her presence became.

‘’why are you staring at me like that?’’ I soon heard her ask. I quickly dropped my eyes, searching for a good topic to bring up.

‘’one of the lawyers that accompanied my cousin Jude to meet you here on Tuesday was kidnapped ’’ I slowly informed her, keenly observing her reaction.

‘’good for him, good for them’’ she muttered with lack of interest, dropping a sigh at the same time. I stared at her silently, clueless of what to make of her reaction. Of course she showed nothing but indifference, something that really left me more confused. She never displayed any deceitful shock or concern.

‘’I plan meeting our priest tomorrow for the wedding issue. You know we have to do this before my pregnancy become noticeable’’ she muttered, changing the topic while I frowned as the word pregnancy hit my ears.

‘’I’m yet to see your pregnancy test result. How are you sure about it?’’ I asked. This time around it was her turn to stare at me with great curiosity.

‘’what?’’ she sort of exclaimed with a raised tone.

‘’Jessica I’m really not sure about this anymore. I don’t want to rush this anymore. Let’s just plan for the baby. We can get married later. I also think living with you at the moment is a sin’’ I stammered, trying hard to appear polite but just like I wanted, she clearly understood the message I was trying to pass.
She simply kept quiet for a while, dressed up and sat on the bed, leaving her eyes on me.

‘’I understand we haven’t been enjoying our relationship lately and we have been quarrelling as well but that shouldn’t make you say those hurtful words to me. I don’t want to have a child outside wedlock and I equally have nowhere else to go’’ she said with a very gentle tone. But her tone and sudden change of character had no effect on me

‘’I just said my mind for now, so please do work towards it and stop making decisions on your own’’ I said seriously, sighed and faced the wall without saying another word to her. She simply sat on the bed for few minutes before leaving the room.
I never cared to check on her, nor bothered to check where she slept. Of course I had to harden my mind in order to make her very uncomfortable with me.

But unfortunately for me, very early the next day about twenty mobile policemen stormed my house without warning, taking me totally by surprise. I really couldn’t know what to make of the early morning show of force as I stared deep at the tall inspector standing at my front door. Jessica soon backed me up, by appearing by my side.

‘’we are here to search your house Mr. Kelvin and I advise you give us all the cooperation we need’’ the tall officer said with a very low tone as his eyes quickly searched my face. I couldn’t just believe my ears.

‘’for what reason are you searching my house?. You can’t just wake up a man and start searching his house’’ I demanded furiously.

‘’we are working on orders sir. A lawyer who had a new case with your family was just kidnapped. So simply allow us to search your house, we will quietly leave once we are done. If you have any problem with it, you can petition the commissioner of police’’ he said with a slightly polite tone. Of course I knew he wasn’t going to take no for an answer. He already was determined to carry on with his assignment no matter the obstacle.

‘’so you think I have something to do with the lawyer’s kidnap?’’ I stammered.

‘’if you really had nothing to do with it, you will have no reason not to allow us search your house and leave’’ he replied a cold smile.

‘’do you have any search warrant?’’ Jessica asked quickly.

‘’madam, I wouldn’t ask that question, If I were you’’ he answered her as he nodded to his men who quickly pushed through and stormed every section of my house while my heart furiously pounded with fear as I waited for them to finish up with the impromptu search.

‘’don’t worry my love, I’m calling my lawyer right away’’ Jessica assured me as she dialed a number with her phone.

Five minutes later, two policemen searching my bedroom showed up with my well hidden gun, a gun I hid perfectly well. I couldn’t believe it and the last time I even used the weapon was the night some hoodlums broke into my house the previous year.
The inspector smiled as his eyes fell on the weapon.

‘’hmmmm well, well, well, I believe this gun is yours Mr. Kelvin?. Do you have any license or permit for the firearm?’’ the tall officer asked with brightened eyes. It was very obvious he was happy his men found something to hold me. I swallowed hard, unable to say anything.

‘’you have to follow us to the station to explain your role in kidnapping barrister Clems and explain how you got the gun’’ he chuckled as his men quickly handcuffed me.

Episode 24

Kelvin’s side of the story continues

By 8:45am that fateful day, I was led into the state police headquarters by the policemen who surrounded me as if I was the most wanted criminal in the country. I couldn’t believe myself. I felt like crying. I felt like throwing up. Of course I knew I was in for a tough ride with the police.
Slowly I was led into an office where two officers with the rank of A.S.P were seated. Jessica was prevented from entering the office by the inspector who led the arrest.

‘’madam you have to stay outside and wait for your lawyer to show up. Allow us to do our work please’’ he breathed as he blocked her from entering the office.
I just didn’t know to react over the situation I found myself. I just felt like a cursed man. Of course things stopped going well for me the day I started sleeping with Jessica. Perhaps the curse was from her.

‘’Mr. Kelvin, this gun belongs to you right?’’ one of the senior officers asked after studying me for few seconds. I just didn’t know what to answer. I knew my comments could be used against me in future. I simply kept quiet, angering the officer.

‘’Mr. Kelvin, I believe you know what happens to kidnappers in this state?. You will rot in jail and your house demolished. Its better you help us to quickly end this case and I promise to help you as well’’ he said softly, leaving his eyes on me.

‘’I’m not a kidnapper. I’m an honest Nigerian. The gun was just to protect myself. I have been robbed countless times in my house and I had to get it for protection. I’m not the man you are looking for. I didn’t kidnap any lawyer. You are just wasting your time with me’’ I screamed desperately. The inspector quickly hit me from behind, silencing me.

‘’I think its better we put him in the cell for some hours so that he can cool off’’ the other officer suggested, putting great fear into me with his words.

‘’now can you write your statement, detailing all you know about the kidnapped lawyer and how you were arrested’’ the first officer asked. I nodded quickly.

‘’yes I can’’ I breathed.

‘’good, here is a pen and a paper, write all you know’’ he added quickly while the inspector quickly removed my handcuffs.

Slowly I wrote how I met the kidnapped lawyer once in my house and the reason he visited. I equally added how I was arrested because of the gun found in my bedroom. I wrote everything with a clean conscience, hoping to convince the officers with my statement. Unfortunately the inspector who was breathing down my neck as I wrote the statement wouldn’t allow me to finish.

‘’this is crap’’ he screamed as I was writing the last paragraph, grabbed the paper and shook with rage while the senior officers stared at him.
Yes he looked quite older and experienced than his two superiors in the room and it was as if they gave him that respect.

‘’what’s the problem inspector, give me the paper’’ the first officer slowly demanded while the inspector hesitated before handing over the paper to him. He read it slowly, breathed deeply and left his eyes on me for some seconds.

‘’according to your statement you have no motive for kidnapping the lawyer but the names Jessica and Jude, looks very interesting. Hmmmm. With what you wrote here it seems the lawyer just handled a little family case with your family and it isn’t something that would warrant you to kidnap him, unless of course you and Jessica are in it together. How did Jessica get the house in the first place and how did you end up being her fiancée and how come the house was released without a fight the moment your cousin showed up with the lawyer who was eventually kidnapped that same day?. Hmmmm your statement isn’t very concise but quite interesting. I guess we will have to question your fiancée and Jude. For now you will have to stay in the cell while we do more digging. Just pray that the lawyer’s kidnap really has nothing to do with your family because we are going to dig deep’’ he said softly. The inspector grinned, grabbed me roughly and led me out of the office. It was just as if he had a personal issue with me. He was really handling me as if we had crossed each other’s part in the past.
Jessica quickly jumped up on sighting me once again.

‘’my love, my lawyers will be here in three minutes. Just don’t get worked up’’ she breathed with eyes filled with unshed tears.

‘’Madam, if I were you, I would be preparing my own defense right now. Your husband just implicated you’’ the inspector muttered coldly, leaving her totally colored up with disbelief as she stared at me with eyes filled with questions.

Jude’s side of the story continues
