Shi'ite members invade National Assembly, clash with police (photos)
Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria also known as Shiite invaded the National Assembly Complex Abuja today Tuesday July 9th, throwing stones and injuring three police men.
The protesting Shiite members were demanding the release of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky who hs been in detention since 2015 after the group's clash with members of the Nigerian Army in Zaria, Kaduna state.
Things turned violent when the protesters, who are demanding the release of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, tried to gain entry into the complex. They threw stones and injured three police officers. The protesters forced their way through the first gate near the Federal Secretariat and headed to the main building where they clashed with security operatives.
The injured officers were first taken to the National Assembly hospital and then referred to the National Hospital Abuja for further treatement.
