Settle ASUU Demands, Senate Tells FG

The Senate yesterday called on the federal government to immediately respond and settle all demands by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
specifically, the Senate want the executive arm of government to peacefully propel ASUU to end the indefinite strike action for the growth and stability of education in the country.
The Senate’s appeal followed a motion by the committee chairman on tertiary institutions and TETFUND, Senator Barau Jibril (Kano North).
Barau said there was need for federal government to resolve all contending issues of ASUU and to result to amicable resolution.
On his part, Senator Shehu Sani (Kaduna Central) noted that ASUU strike was a national problem which has led to suffering of lecturers and students.
According to him, the issues raised by ASUU are genuine and in the interest of the development of education and not to be seen as act of confrontation.
Consequently, the Senate directed the federal ministry of labour and productivity to urgently prevail on ASUU to suspend the strike.
