By Emmanuel Aziken & Omeiza Ajayi

LAGOS—THE presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, is to emerge at the presidential primary of the party scheduled to hold on October 6, 2018.
This came as the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has registered 23 new political parties, bringing the number of political parties in the country to 91.

The commission has also extended the ongoing voter registration exercise by two weeks.
According to a statement issued by the party, yesterday, primary election for the party’s tickets for state House of Assembly will hold on September 15 while that of the House of Representatives would hold on September 19.
The primary election for the Senate would hold on September 23 while governorship primaries would hold on September 28.

The party’s statement, however, did not state the modus for the elections whether it would be direct or indirect primaries.
President Muhammadu Buhari is the frontrunner in the race for the APC presidential ticket. However, at least four party members, including Adamu Garba II, CEO of IPI Solutions, one of the country’s leading software solution providers; Dr. SKC Ogbonnia, Chairman of Texas Energy Corporation; Chief Udo Udeogaranya, a seasoned politician, and Alhaji Mumakai Unagha, a lawyer and Second Republic political youth leader are bidding for the party’s presidential ticket with Buhari.
Among the new political parties registered by INEC yesterday were African Action Congress, AAC; Alliance for a United Nigeria, AUN; Alliance National Party, ANP, Allied Peoples’ Movement, APM, among others.
