Man arrested for raping, robbing a girl lured via Facebook
The Lagos State Police have arrested one Ayo Salau, who colluded with Richard Samuel Gbenga, another suspect on the run to lure a lady via Facebook and rapeher.

The lady who became friends with Gbenga on Facebook sometime in July, 2018, interacted with him on several occasions. However her sad ordeal began, after she accepted to go for a dinner date with her Facebook friend on August 4, 2018.
The suspect arrived at the agreed take off point in a Toyota Camry saloon car, with registration number JJJ 406 DL, driven by Ayo Salau. On their way to Lekki, they pulled over at a lonely spot, armed with cutlasses, they ordered her to take off her clothes or be killed. Thereafter, they took turns to rape her, after which they robbed her of her wristwatch and cash.

The rape victim who raised an alarm after the sad incident, gave a description of their car. Police operatives attached to Maroko Division were alerted, and immediately they laid ambush for the fleeing criminals.
After their vehicle was stopped, the suspects took to their heels. While Gbenga escaped, Salau was arrested. The arrested suspect who confessed to committing the said crime, added that his fleeing partner recruited him for the job.
Speaking to newsmen after the suspect was paraded, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Edgal Imohimi, cautioned youths, especially young women, to beware of people who may use the social media to take advantage of them. Imohimi assured that the long arm of the law will surely catch up with the fleeing suspect.

Few months ago also, an Ikeja Chief Magistrate’s Court remanded a businessman, Ebuka Eze, in prison over alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl he met on Facebook. Chief Magistrate P. E. Nwaka ordered Eze, 27, to be remanded in Kirikiri Prisons, while the case file was sent to the State Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP, for legal advice.
