47-year-old Amunike who signed a two-year deal to take over from Salum Mayanga who was sacked for poor results, led Nigeria U-17 team to World Cup glory in 2015 and has managed several clubs including Sudan’s Al Khartoum, Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hazm amongst others.
The former Super Eagles and Barcelona forward’s target, will be to get the Taifa Stars Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign back on track.  Tanzania are in group L of the 2019 Afcon qualifiers alongside Uganda, Lesotho and Cape Verde.
They are currently joint second in the group standing with Lesotho after both teams played out 1-1 draw in the first round of matches. Uganda leads the group with three points as they defeated Cape Verde away from home.
The appointment of Emmanuel Amuneke as Tanzania’s Coach has also been hailed by FIFA. Amuneke, recently worked with FIFA as a member of the Technical Study Group at the just concluded World Cup in Russia.

“He scored twice for the Super Eagles at the 1994 World Cup. Now Emmanuel Amuneke will take the reins as manager of Tanzania,” FIFA posted on their Twitter handle.
In his early career, Amuneke won the domestic league titles in Nigeria and Egypt, while playing for Julius Berger F.C. and Zamalek SC respectively. In 1994, he signed for Sporting Clube de Portugal, scoring seven league goals in his first season, including one against S.L. Benfica in the Lisbon derby (1–0 home win on 1 December 1994), adding the campaign’s Portuguese Cup.
In the 1996 December transfer window, Amuneke was bought by La Liga giants FC Barcelona for $3.6 million, making his official debut on the 22nd in a 1–0 home win against Celta de Vigo,[2] and scoring on 16 March of the following year in a 1–0 success at CD Logroñés. On 23 December 2008, Amuneke took over the head coaching duties at former team Julius Berger, after completing two years of coaching courses in Europe. For a while, he combined this position with the role for the Red Devils, but eventually quit his post in England to concentrate on his coaching career.
