Kenyan student steals money from mother’s bank accounts to spend with her boyfriend
It was gathered that a Barclay’s Bank’s CCTV, captured the two love birds leaving the bank after withdrawing the money. The boyfriend would later threaten the mother of his girlfriend (Mrs Milka Chebosisi Sitati) of thorough beating if she would talk of it
A Kenyan student Cynthia Cherop, has pleaded guilty to stealing from her mother’s two bank accounts to spend with her boyfriend.

Cherop who is a student of Moi University, was accused of stealing KSh70,000 from her mother’s two accounts at the Barclays and National banks. She pleaded guilty to stealing the money and spending it with Josephat Ng’ang’a. The Kenyan student also told the court that she bought second hand (mitumba) clothes for her business.
It was gathered that a Barclay’s Bank’s CCTV, captured the two love birds leaving the bank after withdrawing the money. The boyfriend would later threaten the mother of his girlfriend (Mrs Milka Chebosisi Sitati) of thorough beating if she would talk of it.
Ng’ang’a denied the attempts of assaulting Ms Cherop’s mother, and was released on a Sh30,000 cash bail. State prosecutor Solomon Naulikha asked the court to treat the accused as a first offender and was not opposed to her being ordered to serve probation term.
Passing a judgement on the case brought before him, Chief magistrate Francis Andayi said it was unfortunate that the accused stole the money to spend with her boyfriend whom her mother did not approve of.
Kenyan local news platforms reported that while Cherop’s mother pleaded with the court to jail her daughter after she pleaded guilty, Ms Sitati’s brothers however pleaded with the court to release Cherop to them, since her mother did not want to see her. According to them, they wanted her to continue attending college.
Stunned with the plea, the magistrate who directed that a probation report be brought in court on August 2, asked Cherop:
“What have you done to your mother for her to hate you this much?”
However on her own part, Cherop disclosed that her mother disliked her Kikuyu boyfriend and wanted them to part ways.
‘My mother disliked my boyfriend and had vowed to do everything to ensure we break up that is why she brought me to court. she said my boyfriend was a short kikuyu man with a small ‘kanyamu’ (manhood) and that she was ready to get me another strong boyfriend,” she said amid vigorous sobs as court orderlies and public listened in disbelief.’
