El-Rufai lists conditions for forgiving Shehu Sani - Edoman - 07-27-2018
The Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has broken silence over Senator Shehu Sani’s decision to remain in the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
Mr Sani, who had earlier shown interest in defecting to PDP over his feud with Mr El-Rufai, stunned political observers when changed decision to remain in the party at the eleventh hour.
The senator was among the 42 out of the 53 APC senators who paid allegiance to President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday at the First Lady Conference Room in Aso Rock.
Responding to a question during a live radio programme on Thursday night, Mr El-Rufai likened Mr Sani’s crimes to a “political apostasy”.
The governor noted that he would not be fully accommodated back into the party until he corrected what led to the “political apostasy”.
The governor listed some of the senator’s crimes as rejecting the $350m World Bank loan request at the senate, adding that the senator also remained suspended from the party at the ward level.
“He has to repent, tell Kaduna people why he sabotaged them. He has to also go back to the ward level, because as far as we are concerned he remains suspended from the party.
In April, the Senate rejected Kaduna State Government’s request for the approval of a $350million loan, after three senators from the state, including Mr Sani, kicked against the request.
The three senators also warned other banks against giving the state facility.
It is however not clear whether Mr El-Rufai would accept Mr Sani when the national leadership of the party intervenes.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has invalidated the suspension of Shehu Sani, the senator representing Kaduna Central in the National Assembly, from the party.
The Tudun Wada North (Ward 6) Exco of the APC suspended Sani in 2017, and reaffirmed this on July 31, 2018, saying it would not be lifted unless the senator apologises to President Muhammadu Buhari and Nasir el-Rufai, Governor of Kaduna State.
“We make bold to say that our decision was based on the provisions of the constitution of our great party. Therefore, Senator Shehu Sani remains suspended,” a statement by Ibrahim Salisu Togo, Chairman of the ward, on Tuesday had affirmed.
“In all fairness to the party and Kaduna State voters, the only pre-condition for lining this suspension on Senator Shehu Sani is for the lawmaker to openly apologize to the leadership of our great party for his various acts of misconduct and disrespectful attitudes towards both his constituents, party leadership and his vicious media attacks against our amiable President, Muhammadu Buhari.
“He should also apologize to the Government and people of Kaduna State for frustrating the $350 million loan meant to develop the State in the areas of Education. Healthcare delivery, Works and Housing, Women and Youth Empowerment among others.”
However, on Sunday, Yekini Nabena, Acting National Publicity Secretary of the party, confirmed that the national leadership of the party had lifted the suspension.
Nabena said the party had directed Togo and others to “implement the directive with a view to complementing the peace efforts being made by the national leadership of the party to bring back peace in the party in Kaduna State”.
