Edo youth leader assaults physically challenged man (photo) - Edoman - 04-27-2021

Edo community youth leader allegedly assaults physically challenged man for addressing him by his name instead of "chairman"

A youth leader in Obazagban community, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, has been accused of assaulting a physically challenged man, Ogbeni Kingsley.

According to human rights activist and member of Edo Civil Society Organisations, Osazee Edigin, the youth leader identified as Joshua Edo allegedly assaulted the victim, who happens to be an old friend, for calling him by his name instead of "chairman or people's chair"

The incident happened on Saturday, April 24, along Benoni Junction off Airport Road, Benin City.

The accused community youth leader
Narrating his ordeal on Tuesday morning, April 27, the victim demanded for justice, adding that the police is yet to act since he reported the assault.

"Somebody beat me black and blue because he saw me as a nobody. I was driving last Saturday (April 24) when I saw an old friend of mine at Obazagban community. He said I called him by his name and started beating me up. He said why would I call him Joshua instead of chairman or people's chair. He beat me for more than 20 minutes. He was blowing me from the car, dragged me out of the car and blow my face. I have never seen this kind of theing in my life." he narrated.

Meanwhile, the assault case is currently being heard at Evboriaria Magistrate court.

Update: Court remands Edo community youth leader who allegedly assaulted physically challenged man for calling him by his name instead of "chairman"

A Magistrates Court in Oredo, Edo State has remanded a community youth leader for allegedly assaulting a physically challenged man.

LIB reported that the accused, Joshua Edo, the Obazagbon community youth leader, allegedly assaulted Kingsley Ogbeni, for addressing him by his first name instead of "chairman or people's chair"

The police arraigned the accused on Tuesday, April 27, for unlawful assault, an offfence that contravened Section 355 of the Criminal Code of defunct Bendel State of Nigeria as applicable in Edo State.

"That you Joshua Edo on the 24th day of April 2021, about 6.00pm at Benoni junction off Airport Road, in the Benin Magisterial District did unlawfully assaulted one Ogbeni Kingsley with a fist blow on his left eye and caused him harm and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 355 of the criminal code cap 48 volume 11 laws of defunct Bendel State of Nigeria as applicable in Edo State. " the charge reads.

Confirming the development on Wednesday April 28, human rights activist and member of Edo Civil Society Organisations, Osazee Edigin, said they have also received numerious complaints of atrocities allegedly committed by the accused.

Quote:"This is Joshua Edo the molester of the physically challenge man in police station yesterday night having being remanded by a magistrate court. He is the youth leader of Obazagbon community. We have been receiving numerous complaints of his atrocities in Obazagbon. If you have any of such inhuman experience with him, contact Barrister Jefferson Uwoghiren or any of us with your evidences. This type of person cannot be allowed to flourish in Benin kingdom so as not to return to the state of nature." he wrote.
