The driver of Adamawa United Football Club who was kidnapped last weekend has finally been released.

Kabiru Mohammed was released around 11.30pm on Wednesday, February, 24, according to The Nation

Mr. Kabiru was reportedly kidnapped along Benin-Ore-Lagos road when the team bus was attacked by gunmen on Saturday, February 20, at round 6.30am, along the Benin-Ore-Lagos highway.

The gunmen were said to have taken money and phones from players and officials of the team before abducting the driver.

The football team had been on their way for a football clash with MFM Football Club, Lagos, on a week 11 NPFL fixture.

After the driver was kidnapped, the kidnappers demanded a ransom of N50 million.

Permanent Secretary of the Adamawa State Ministry of Youths and Sports, Alhaji Aliyu Jada, confirmed to the publication that the freed driver is on his way back to Yola.

“I spoke with him, he was very coherent, he is on his way back (towards Yola) now,” the permanent secretary said.

Jada, who had been negotiating the terms of release of the driver, did not disclose how much was finally paid as ransom to secure his release.
