Stay put where you are and continue to be law-abiding.- Northern Elders Forum t - Edoman - 01-21-2021 Stay put where you are and continue to be law-abiding.- Northern Elders Forum tell herdsmen residing in Ondo The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has asked herders in Ondo state to disregard the 7-day ultimatum given to them by the Ondo state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, to vacate the state's forest reserve. On Monday, January 18, the governor gave the order and according to him, it was part of measures to stop the increasing rate of insecurity in the state. The governor said, “bad elements” have turned the forest reserves into hideouts for keeping victims of kidnapping, negotiating for ransom and carrying out other criminal activities. Just like the Presidency, the Northern Elders in a statement released condemned the directive by the governor and has asked the herdsmen to disregard it. In a statement signed by its spokesman, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the forum said Fulanis will not accept unfair treatment, challenging Governor Akeredolu to isolate criminals and treat them as such. Quote:“Northern Elders Forum is shocked at reports that Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, is asking a Fulani community to leave its lawful location, in addition to other restrictions on activities of Fulani people who have lived in the State for a long period. |
