Gunmen kidnap Auxiliary Bishop and his driver in Owerri - Edoman - 12-29-2020 Gunmen kidnap Auxiliary Bishop and his driver in Owerri Suspected kidnappers have abducted the Auxiliary Bishop of Owerri Catholic Archdiocese, Most Rev. Dr. Moses Chikwe.   Bishop Chikwe was being chauffeured by his driver when their vehicle was attacked by the gunmen along the World Bank – Umuguma road in the evening on Sunday, December 27. He was taken away together with his driver. His car was later dropped at the Assumpta Cathedral.   Bishop Chikwe was consecrated a Bishop on December 12th, 2019. Before his appointment as an Auxillary bishop by Pope Francis, he was the Director of Education of the Archdiocese and collaborator of the Parish of St. Thomas More.   The spokesperson of the state police command, Orlando Ikeokwu, confirmed the incident and said the state commissioner of police, has activated the Commands Quick Intervention Team and Anti-Kidnapping Unit to move into the matter with a view to rescue the Bishop and  possibly arrest the hoodlums. RE: Gunmen kidnap Auxiliary Bishop and his driver in Owerri - Edoman - 12-30-2020 Abducted auxiliary bishop has not been killed-Owerri diocese The Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri has dismissed reports that an abducted auxiliary Bishop, Moses Chikwe, has been killed by his abductors.   The clergyman and his driver were abducted by gunmen who ambushed and attacked them while driving along the World Bank – Umuguma road in the evening on Sunday, December 27.    Some media house on Tuesday December 29, claimed the clergyman has been killed.   However, in a statement released, the Archdiocese said the report of the killing of the cleric is unconfirmed and so should be ignored.   Read the statement below     RE: Gunmen kidnap Auxiliary Bishop and his driver in Owerri - Edoman - 12-30-2020 Catholics in prayer mood for speedy release of abducted prelate on  December 30, 2020 The Catholic Archdiocese of Imo State has solicited prayers from God’s people across Nigeria for the safe release of Auxiliary Bishop, Moses Chikwe. The Archdiocese is praying that the aged Bishop is released without being hurt by his abductors. Most Rev. Anthony Obinna, the Archbishop of Owerri Catholic Ecclesiastical Province, made the request in a statement dated 28th December 2020 and signed by Rev. Monsignor Alphonsus Oha. Recall that Bishop Chikwe was abducted in the evening of Sunday, 27th December 2020 at Site and Services, New Owerri, Imo State. Meanwhile, the Catholic community in the state is in deep fear as the abductors of the Bishop are yet to communicate or make any demands.
