It was gathered that he died on Friday – Christmas Day – about 2am.
Ejiro was popular for his blockbuster movies in the 90s.
He produced movies like Silent Night, Blood Money, Deadly Affair, among several other notable movies.
In a phone conversation with The PUNCH, his colleague and close friend, Zik Zulu, said, “Yes, it is true, Chico Ejiro is dead.”
Also, the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Rollas, confirmed the filmmaker’s death.
He said, “I just learnt of his death. The news of his death is so devastating. I do not know the cause of his death; I am still calling around to get the proper information and I am waiting for his association ― The Association of Movie Producers ― to make a statement.”
However, a source close to the deceased revealed that Ejiro died about 2 am on Christmas Day.
“He was ill about five weeks ago and he was rushed to a hospital in Surulere where he was placed on admission. After about a week, he was discharged and he went back home to recuperate.
“From what he said, he had high blood pressure that led to some heart complications. He was recuperating and got better. He even started a production that he was shooting about four days ago but he was not fully involved.
“He was just like the supervising director. He will go to the location and supervise them, so, we all felt that he was good. Although he kept saying that he had not gotten back to his full health; he was still very weak. We were shocked about his death because he was even talking to some of his friends till late last night. I learnt he died about 2 am this morning,” the source said.

Actress Cossy Ojiakor wrote about her experience with late Nollywood filmmaker, Chico Ejiro shortly after news of his death was reported.
The actress in her Instagram post noted that the filmmaker used to like her, but kept quiet and watched the world tear her to shreds during her sex with dog scandal.
Cossy disclosed that Ejiro's silence killed her and further reiterated that it was a Nollywood movie and not a porn movie. She also recalled how Chico Ejiro's wife allegedly slapped her on set of the sex with dog movie.
The actress wrote;

What made you keep quite and watch the world tear me to shreds.... during that mighty scandal you kept quite..... Joy: Chico Ejiro Died In My Hands – Wife (Photo)
Joy Ejiro, wife of Nollywood filmmaker Chico Ejiro has said that he died in her hands, Igbere TV reports.
Speaking for the first time on her husband’s death, Joy shared a picture of herself and Ejiro on Instagram on Saturday.
She said she was glad to have spent the past 26 years with him.
Quote:“This is a rude shock!!!! We had a lot of plans for Christmas, we spoke a lot about how the day will go, we were recounting how God has been good to us this year and how grateful we are to be alive.
“I never knew it was going to be my last midnight gist with you. You died in my hands Chico, you left me so confused and devastated,” she wrote.

Ejiro died in the early hours of Christmas Day from suspected cardiac arrest.
Nicknamed Mr Prolific by journalist Azuh Arinze, Chico was mourned by so many Nollywood actors.
They include Richard Mofe-Damijo, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Regina Askia, Yul Edochie, Ik Ogbonna and Femi Jacobs.
Joy and Ejiro got married in 1998.
They have four children together.
