Villarreal and Super Eagles winger, Samuel Chukwueze has undergone successful surgery after traveling to Munich, Germany for the medical procedure.

The Nigeria international aggravated the groin injury during the club's 4-0 win at Celta Vigo in a Spanish top-flight game.

The injury has made him miss fixtures against Tenerife, Granada, Huesca, Girona, Real Sociedad and Levante.

The club has now confirmed that the 21-year-old’s operation went well alongside teammate Ruben Pena.

“Samuel Chukwueze, who has been out injured receiving treatment for discomfort in his groin, has undergone surgery this morning [Thursday] by Doctor Ulrike Muschaweck in Munich, hoping to definitively relieve him of the said pain,” a statement from the club website read.

“Ruben Pena suffered muscle damage to his left hamstring in yesterday’s Copa del Rey quarter-final against Levante.

“Both footballers’ recovery time will depend on how they progress.”

Chukwueze,  has featured in 17 games for his club this season.

He joined the Spanish side from Diamond Football Academy following his spectacular performances in Chile where he was named the third-best player at the under-15 world cup.

Covid 19: Liverpool banned from entering Germany for Champions League clash with RB Leipzig

Liverpool’s Champions League clash with RB Leipzig is now a huge doubt as the Premier League champions have been banned from entering Germany due to coronavirus restrictions.

Liverpool are scheduled to play the first leg of their last-16 tie at Leipzig’s Red Bull Arena on February 16 but Germany has new travel laws banning international travel from countries deemed high risk due to mutations of the coronavirus.

Airline travel into Germany from England is prohibited until at least
Februaryrly this week, Germany's Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) announced that the new restrictions would “initially not allow any exceptions for professional athletes”.

On Thursday, February 4, the BMI confirmed that a Champions League match would not be grounds for a special permit.

"The Federal Police informed the association that the described constellation does not fall under the exceptional circumstances of the Corona Protection Ordinance," the BMI told the Sport Information Service (SID).

UEFA has now given RB Leipzig until February 8 to organise an alternative plan so the match will go ahead.

The game could be played at a neutral venue in a country with less strict coronavirus restrictions.

Quote:Barcelona Ranked World's Richest Football Club In 2021 (Full Rankings)

Deloitte have released their latest Football Money League numbers which rank the most lucrative football clubs in 2021 - and here's who make the list.

Deloitte have published the 2021 Football Money League, which analyses the finances of the clubs which generate the highest revenue.
The latest findings showed that the top 20 clubs, all based in Europe, manage to accrue a combined €8.2 billion (£7.2b/$9.9m) during the 2019-20 season.

It was a 12 per cent decrease from the prior season (€9.3 billion) - no doubt owing to the disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, which impacted a fall in broadcast and matchday revenue - but also resulted in an increase in commercial venue.

Which club is the richest in the world?
Barcelona were named the world's richest football club in 2021 according to the Deloitte rankings, retaining a slight margin ahead of Spanish rivals Real Madrid despite having a revenue fall of €125 million (£110m/$150m) to €715m (£628m/$861m) in 2019-20.

They both hold a substantial lead ahead of the rest of the table, and dominate the table comfortably.

Bayern are ranked in third and are in front of Manchester United, named the richest English side.

They are followed immediately by the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City, with Paris Saint-Germain slotting into seventh.

The top 10 richest clubs are dominated by five Premier League clubs, including Chelsea and Tottenham, while Arsenal are placed at 11th in the table, with Everton 17th.

The rest of the table is rounded out by Borussia Dortmund, Inter, Atletico Madrid, Zenit Saint-Petersburg and other big European names.
Barcelona's status as the richest club in the world, however, has been overshadowed by their €1.2 billion (£1.1b/$1.5b) debtalongside the revelation that Lionel Messi's salary is at €555 million (£491m/$674m).

The Catalan side were found to be owing a total of €126 million (£112m/$153m) to other clubs, which is rooted from several transfer deals that the club made over the course of several years - including deals for Phiippe Coutinho, Frenkie de Jong and Arthur.

You can view the full rankings with the total revenue (broadcast, matchday and commercial) below.

EPL: Why Timo Werner is struggling at Chelsea – Michael Ballack

on
 February 8, 2021

Former Chelsea midfielder, Michael Ballack, has revealed why striker, Timo Werner, is struggling at Chelsea.

Werner, one of Frank Lampard’s marquee signings, has struggled to adapt to Chelsea’s style of play since his move to Stamford Bridge from RB Leipzig last year.

The Germany international has not scored in 14 Premier League games for Chelsea.

But Ballack is now saying that Werner is struggling at Chelsea because he was used to playing differently at Leipzig.

According to him, the 24-year-old had a lot more space in front of him during his time at the German club, while Chelsea is the kind of team that has a lot of ball possession.

“Timo started off pretty well,” Ballack told Omnisport.
“Of course, if you are not scoring as a striker, then it is hard on your self-confidence.

“I believe that it’s very hard for him. Overall, as he was used to playing differently at Leipzig, he had a lot more space in front of him.

“Chelsea is the kind of team that has a lot of ball possession, wanting to dominate the opponent. Maybe even more so with [Thomas] Tuchel.

“Maybe he has to work on his playing style a little bit or try to get himself into better positions.

“As a striker, you are depending on your fellow players to find you, and if the [goal drought] breaks, then he will be able to find his old form.

“He used to have good phases with the national team, using his physical presence and power to break down on the wing.

“So when the [drought] breaks, then things will go better again.”

Madrid's Hazard wants to play for another five of six years, upbeat amid fitness woes

[Image: image?url=https%3A%2F%2Fnews.livescore.c...=3840&q=75]

9 February 2021,

Real Madrid star Eden Hazard said he wants to keep playing for at least another five of six years as the upbeat attacker insisted injuries are "not the end of the world" amid fitness issues at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Hazard swapped Chelsea for Madrid in a reported €100million deal in 2019 but his time in the Spanish capital has been plagued by injuries.
The 30-year-old, who is set to miss "two or three weeks" due to a damaged rectus femoris muscle in his left leg, has only started 20 games in LaLiga – six of those coming this season, and scored just three goals.

Hazard has failed to complete a full 90 minutes in any match for Madrid in 2020-21 across all competitions, but the Belgium international remains positive.

"I'm just hoping to play football for as long as possible, and I always try to enjoy myself on the pitch," he told On The Front Foot.
"When it comes to the end of my career I can look back at my achievements, but my priority now is playing well and enjoying my football.

"I don't think about where I will be in the next few years, I try to focus on the next match and the next training session.

"I've only just turned 30 so as long as my body feels good, hopefully I can keep playing for at least another five or six years."

"I'm lucky that when I'm injured and stuck at home, I have my family to get me through," Hazard added.
"It's not the end of the world for me because I can spend time with my kids, when you're alone and injured it can be tough but I'm lucky that I have my family to support me.

"When you're injured there's only so much you can do, you can work to get better faster but the injuries I have had just take time to heal. I just have to wait, work hard to get better and when I'm at home I can enjoy the time with my family.

Mbappe welcomes 'great news' of Neymar's love for PSG: I hope he can write history

[Image: image?url=https%3A%2F%2Fnews.livescore.c...=3840&q=75]

8 February 2021,

Kylian Mbappe has welcomed Neymar's increasingly positive comments on his Paris Saint-Germain future, saying his team-mate deserves to enjoy a historic career in France.

Neymar, who has repeatedly been linked with a move away from PSG since joining the Ligue 1 giants in 2017, last month appeared to give a firm indication he will remain in Paris.

The Brazil superstar told TF1: "I want to stay at PSG and I hope Kylian stays too."

Neymar is reportedly close to agreeing a new four-year contract with the club and played a role in Sunday's 2-0 win over Classique rivals Marseille despite this week suffering with illness.

Keeping Neymar and Mbappe on board would represent a huge boost to PSG in their long-term bid to win the Champions League, having reached the final under Thomas Tuchel last season.
And Mbappe was upbeat as he told Canal+ of his thoughts on Neymar's commitment.

"This is great news. Everyone knows how important he is," the World Cup winner said. "I hope he can write history for Paris for a long time to come. He and the club deserve it."

Mbappe was speaking after netting the opener in the win at Marseille, a ninth-minute effort his only attempt but a vital strike.

No PSG player has made more appearances (26) or scored more goals (18) in all competitions than Mbappe this season, while he trails only Angel Di Maria – an injury worry against OM – in regards to Ligue 1 assists after the Argentine midfielder teed up his latest finish.

Mauro Icardi, now with five league goals in 11 games, added the second from one of his four efforts as PSG stayed within three points of Ligue 1 leaders Lille.

That is still only enough for third place, meaning Mbappe and Co cannot yet allow a Champions League meeting with Neymar's former side Barcelona to become a distraction.

"Unfortunately, we lost points all over the place, so we have to focus on each Ligue 1 game," Mbappe said.
"In previous years, we could have concentrated on the Champions League, but we are behind in Ligue 1. We have to play with intensity to make sure we are not surprised."

There was certainly no shortage of intensity at the Stade Velodrome, even if the one red card – for Dimitri Payet – appeared meek in contrast to the five in the reverse fixture.

PSG lost 1-0 at home and so were determined to respond, Icardi describing a desire for "revenge".
Mbappe added to Telefoot: "Personally, I think [the Classique] has changed a lot. When I arrived, it was not like this, not the same types of matches. It was not the same importance.

"But this year there is a boost and it has regained importance, both for us, the players, and the new staff.

"All week, we prepared like a Champions League match, a big match, a match apart. The team's mentality has changed."

That mentality delivered a 45th PSG victory in 100 Classiques, as Marseille trail on 33 wins against their bitter rivals.

Ibrahimovic doesn't have to stop at 500 goals – Milan's Pioli

[Image: image?url=https%3A%2F%2Fnews.livescore.c...=3840&q=75]

8 February 2021,

Milan head coach Stefano Pioli said evergreen star Zlatan Ibrahimovic "doesn't have to stop" at 500 goals after reaching the landmark figure in his club career.

Ibrahimovic passed 500 club goals in Milan's 4-0 Serie A rout of Crotone, increasing his tally to 501 with his sixth league brace of the season on Sunday.

The 39-year-old opened the scoring after half an hour before doubling the lead with 26 minutes remaining at San Siro, where Ante Rebic netted a quick-fire double as Milan returned to the top of the table.

"There's no need to add anything. We just have to congratulate with him," Pioli told reporters.

"It's an unbelievable milestone but we are talking of an absolute number one, he is a champion. I just want to congratulate him again and send him a message.

"He doesn't have to stop at that number."
Only with Paris Saint-Germain (156) has Ibrahimovic scored more goals in all competitions, having managed 83 for Milan across two spells.
Ibrahimovic is one of the two players, alongside Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, to have scored the most braces in the top five European leagues in 2020-21.

The former Sweden international has scored 14 Serie A goals in 11 appearances this season, while he has 16 across all competitions.

Atletico Madrid 2-2 Celta Vigo: Suarez double not enough for Simeone's side

[Image: image?url=https%3A%2F%2Fnews.livescore.c...=3840&q=75]

8 February 2021,

Atletico Madrid were denied the opportunity to restore their 10-point lead at the LaLiga summit after Facundo Ferreyra's 89th-minute equaliser sealed an unlikely 2-2 draw for Celta Vigo on Monday.

Wins for Real Madrid and Barcelona over the weekend put the pressure on Diego Simeone's men, who lost Thomas Lemar and Hector Herrera shortly before kick-off after positive COVID-19 tests were confirmed.

They started poorly at the Wanda Metropolitano and slipped behind to Santi Mina's third top-flight goal of the season, but Luis Suarez levelled matters in the 45th minute with a simple finish at the back post.

The former Barcelona striker repeated the trick five minutes after the interval, but Los Rojiblancos were denied a ninth consecutive top-flight win when Ferreyra - a debutant from the bench - scrambled in from close range late on.

The hosts were stunned after 13 minutes when Mina met Hugo Mallo's right-wing cross with a diving header from six yards that flashed past Jan Oblak.

Simeone's men struggled to get a foothold in the game after that, with Ruben Blanco comfortably keeping out Renan Lodi's effort from outside the penalty area.

The leaders restored parity on the stroke of half-time, though, Suarez stealing in at the back post to prod home Marcos Llorente's low ball across the face of goal for his 15th LaLiga goal of the campaign.

Suarez grabbed his second in the 50th minute, sliding in unmarked to steer Lodi's superb volleyed cross past Blanco from six yards.

Only a superb last-ditch tackle from Geoffrey Kondogbia denied Iago Aspas an equaliser soon after as Celta pushed forward in numbers.

Atleti looked set for another three points on their march towards the title but Ferreyra - who joined the club on transfer deadline day from Benfica - marked his debut by bundling home Augusto Solari's cross with just a minute remaining to steal a surprise point.

Atleti boss Simeone focuses on positives despite Celta's late leveller

[Image: image?url=https%3A%2F%2Fnews.livescore.c...=3840&q=75]

9 February 2021,

Diego Simeone insists there are plenty of positives to take from Monday's 2-2 draw with Celta Vigo despite the disappointment of conceding an 89th-minute equaliser.

Los Rojiblancos looked set to restore their 10-point lead over Barcelona and Real Madrid at LaLiga's summit after a Luis Suarez brace overturned Santi Mina's opener for Celta.

They were denied a ninth consecutive top-flight win, however, when substitute Facundo Ferreyra - making his debut after joining from Benfica on transfer deadline day - bundled home from close range late on.

Despite that late blow, Atleti still have an eight-point lead at the top of the table and boast a game in hand on their rivals.

They are unbeaten in 22 home league games - their best run in the competition since a 22-match streak between September 2015 and October 2016 - while their tally of 51 points after 20 games is their best at this stage of the season since they last won the league in 2013-14.

Simeone refused to be too harsh on his side after Ferreyra's late leveller and felt there were plenty of plus points to take into next weekend's game at Granada.

"It is normal that during the season, with the number of games there are, things will happen like this," he told a news conference.

"Today, we continue on our way, match by match, and I am left with many positive things that were taken from negative things.

"Some players came in, took their opportunity, and played very good games, such as [Renan] Lodi, [Geoffrey] Kondogbia and [Lucas] Torreira. Those are important things for the future.

"It was a difficult start for us. They played well. I think there were not many chances in the first half for anyone, but they did feel more comfortable with possession.

"In the second half we improved with the change of system to have one more in the middle and take one from behind. Kondogbia and Torreira managed to press higher."

Suarez's latest double took his tally to 16 goals in his first 17 league games for Atleti, overtaking Cristiano Ronaldo as the fastest player to reach 16 goals for the same club in the competition in the 21st century.

Those goals have secured 12 points for Atleti this season - more than any other player in the league.
Simeone knew exactly what he was getting when he signed Suarez from Barcelona ahead of the 2020-21 season and the Atleti boss says his side tries to play to the Uruguay international's strengths.

"It [Suarez's record] speaks for itself," he added. "He always scored goals, it's not just now that he does.

"We try to enhance everything he brought and bring him closer to the area. Let's all hope we continue growing as a team."

Quote:Lionel Messi Named Football's GOAT During NFL Super Bowl

Lionel Messi added another feather to his cap after being named football's GOAT at the NFL Super Bowl on Sunday night. One could argue that Cristiano Ronaldo deserved the coveted award as he has won five Champions League titles, while Messi has won it four times with Barcelona.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tom Brady was named NFL's GOAT, Michael Jordan NBA's, while the title of NHL GOAT went to Wayne Gretzky.

Arsenal star, William Saliba 'faces investigation by the French FA' for allegedly sharing a Snapchat video of a naked team-mate masturbating

Arsenal defender, William Saliba is set to be investigated by the French Football Federation (FFF and equivalent of the FA) over a leaked Snapchat video featuring a naked team-mate masturbating.

The Frenchman, 19, who is currently on loan at Ligue 1 side Nice, has come under fire after the clip emerged online this week.

In the video, Saliba is seen sporting the Nike tracksuit of the French national team, alongside a few teammates, before the camera is shifted to a completely naked teammate, who appears to be masturbating.

RMC Sport report that the video is an old video from three-years ago, meaning that the youth players involved were all likely under the age of 18.

According to the French outlet, the FFF’s disciplinary commission have been called upon, with an investigation to be opened into a video that is considered harmful to the federation’s image.

Saliba signed for Arsenal from Saint-Etienne in the summer of 2019 for a fee of around £27m. He was sent straight back to Saint-Etienne on loan and expected to make an impact when he arrived back in London.

On his return, he made two appearances in the Football League Trophy for Arsenal's U23s and failed to make a single senior appearance for the north London club before being sent back on loan to Ligue 1 with Nice in January.

However, Saliba has impressed at Nice, winning the club's player of the month award for January.

On Tuesday, he took a swipe at Gunners boss Mikel Arteta for 'judging him on two-and-a-half games' before deciding he wasn't in his plans for the season.

'It is clear that so much has changed in the last year,' he told RMC's 'Top of the Foot' show.

'When I saw that the coach changed, a lot changed for me too. In this year there has been a lot of change. He judged me on two-and-a-half matches. I would have liked for him to play me more. But he told me I wasn't ready.

'I was waiting for him to give me a chance, but football is like that. When I initially came to Arsenal the league looked very good so I showed up to training and wanted to train on my own to show the coach I was ready.

'I am happy now, I want to play for Nice. The idea when you're part of a team is a better feeling for me.'

Ahmed Musa's proposed move to West Brom cut off due to club's reluctance to pay his £60,000 weekly salary

Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa's proposed transfer to English Premier League club, West Brom has been terminated.

Musa, who terminated his lucrative contract with Saudi Arabian Pro League side Al-Nassr last October, passed a fitness test under the supervision of West Brom's sports science and performance team at the training center last week Thursday.

The club had earlier planned to sign him on a short term deal but club bosses have now reportedly rejected Musa saying his salary package of £60,000, with the club's board agreeing that the salary was too high for a player with a low resale value.

The club also pulled the plug on the deal because they have a limited transfer budget.

According to reports from England, Musa's agent gave a deadline to West Brom to complete his transfer.

The deadline expired this week so both parties ended negotiations and he is exploring other options.

While at Al-Nassr, Musa earned a weekly salary of 60,000 pounds and an annual salary of 16.5 million Euros before tax.

UEFA changes venue of Atletico Madrid vs Chelsea Champions League clash due to covid-19 travel ban

UEFA has announced that the Champions League clash between Atletico Madrid and Chelsea has been moved to the Romanian capital of Bucharest after Spanish authorities banned travel from the United Kingdom due to the new covid-19 variant.

The Spanish Ministry of Health put in place restrictive measures on travel ever since the country issued a state of emergency on October 25, 2020.

The match was due to be played at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid but UEFA regulations dictated that an alternative venue must be found by the Spanish club.

In a statement released on Wednesday, February 10, European football's governing body wrote: “UEFA is able to officially confirm that the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first leg match between Club Atletico de Madrid and Chelsea FC will now be played at the Arena Nationala in Bucharest.

“The date of the match (23 February 2021) and the kick-off time (21:00 CET) will remain the same.
“UEFA would like to express its gratitude to Club Atletico de Madrid and Chelsea FC for their support and close cooperation, as well as the Romanian Football Federation for their assistance and agreeing to stage the match.”

Meanwhile Chelsea's match at Stamford Bridge would not be changed as the UK has not banned visitors from Spain.

Quote:Manchester United: Amad Diallo Fined £42,000 For Falsifying Documents

Manchester United’s new signing Amad Diallo has been fined £42,000 in Italy over allegations he used fake documents and bogus parents to move to Europe from Ivory Coast.

Diallo was in the United squad for the first time for Tuesday night’s FA Cup tie against West Ham following his £37million move from Atalanta.

The FIGC, Italian football’s governing body, has handed out the fine after the 18-year-old winger and his brother Hamed – who plays for Serie A side Sassuolo accepted a plea bargain to avoid a ban.

A statement said that the two players used ‘false certifications that had allowed them to reunite in Italy with fictitious parents’.

It added: ‘The two requested “the application of the sanction pursuant to art. 126 of the Code of Sports Justice”, that is, the plea bargain: the Federal Prosecutor’s Office has thus imposed a penalty of 48 thousand euros for Amad Diallo and another 48 thousand euros for Hamed Traore.’

The investigation looked into allegations that a child trafficking ring of five adults smuggled the two boys into Italy on a family visa six years ago, including two who falsely claimed to be their mother and father Hamed Mamadou Traore and Marina Edwige Carine Teher.

The false documents were said to have been used so Diallo could sign for junior club Boca Barco in 2015 and Atalanta three years later.

It is also alleged that Amad Diallo Traore was not the player’s real name and Hamed may not even be his brother.

Having dropped the name Traore on his 18th birthday last July and legally changed it to Diallo in September; he decided to have Amad on the back of his shirt at United.

The move went through in October after United agreed to pay £19m plus a further £18m in add-ons to Atalanta, but Diallo wasn’t able to move to Old Trafford until January while he obtained an Italian passport and waited to be issued with a UK visa and work permit.

The teenager was fast-tracked into United’s first-team squad after scoring twice on his debut for the club’s Under-23 team against Liverpool last week and then making three assists in his second game against Blackburn.

Diallo was an unused substitute in Tuesday’s 1-0 win over West Ham at Old Trafford, but is expected to make his senior debut soon.
