Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and wife violate bail condition, flee to Malawi from South A - Edoman - 11-15-2020 Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and wife violate bail condition, flee to Malawi from South Africa The founder of Enlightened Christian Gathering church, Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary have fled to his native country Malawi from South Africa, amid the ongoing anti-graft case against them. This is coming after the controversial millionaire preacher who is known for his “miracles” and wildly extravagant lifestyle and his wife were granted bail of R200,000 each by a Pretoria Central Magistrate's court. The couple and three others are standing trial for fraud and money laundering case worth R102 million. One of their explicit bail conditions was that they were not to leave South Africa. Their travel documents was handed over to an investigating officer after being barred from travelling anywhere in South Africa except within the Gauteng and North West provinces. However in a statement released on Saturday November 14, Bushiri said they fled to Malawi as they feared for their lives. He also made a number of demands that need to be met before he can return to face trial in South Africa. The statement read; Quote:PROPHET BUSHIRI’S STATEMENT ON HIS ARRIVAL IN MALAWI Aljazeera reported that there are allegations of Bushiri fleeing South Africa with Malawi’s President Lazarus Chakwera, who was on a two-day official visit to South Africa and returned on Saturday. Chakwera’s spokesman, Brian Banda has however debunked the claim. Banda said; Quote:“The allegation that Prophet Shepherd Bushiri came on the same flight with the president is false." RE: Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and wife violate bail condition, flee to Malawi from South A - Edoman - 11-18-2020 Prophet Bushiri and wife arrested in Malawi Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife, Mary who violated their bail condition in South Africa by fleeing to his home country Malawi have been arrested. The Malawian police launched a manhunt for the fugitive on Tuesday November 17, after Interpol issued an arrest warrant in Pretoria. Confirming their arrest, police spokesperson James Kadadzera said in a statement; Quote:"The prophet and his wife handed themselves over to the police ... (in Lilongwe on) Wednesday, November 18, 2020 when they got wind of their impending arrest." Bushiri's spokesperson, Ephraim Nyondo however denied the couple's arrest was sparked by the warrant. AFP reported he said Bushiri had vowed to present himself to the Malawi police to demonstrate "commitment that he is not a fugitive."
