Members of the house of representatives committee on power have kicked against the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) demand of N2.1 billion in the 2021 budget to partition and furnish its headquarters in Abuja.
NERC Chairman, James Momoh who appeared before the committee to defend the commission’s 2021 budget proposal on Wednesday November 4, stated that works in the eight-floor building is ongoing and the money is needed to make the building more conducive.
When asked to disclose the total contract sum needed to complete the partitioning and furnishing of the office, Momoh who revealed that they were unable to spend all the money released to NERC for the project in the 2020 budget because of the COVID-19 pandemic, was unable to provide the total contract sum.
Reacting to this, Chairman of the house committee Magaji Aliyu threatened to delete the request from the 2021 budget proposal.
Aliyu said;
Quote:“If you do not have the contract sum, we will delete it from the budget.
“You have only one line item and you came unprepared.”
The NERC chairman was further directed to go back and bring the total contract sum.
