In a letter drafted by their counsel, Kunle Edun and dated September 23, the four employees namely Mr Victor Ephraim, Gloria Oguzie, Mrs. Precious Achibong, Roselyn Okiemute Diaghwarhe, said they were stripped naked on the orders of the ex-minister because of the tips a guest who lodged at the hotel for four days gave to them on his departure on August 20, 2020. The letter is titled, ‘Trial by ordeal, torture, stripping naked and bestial conduct of Signatious Hotel and yourself in an organised show of shame and animalism: Notice of intention to seek full legal redress’. It reads in part Quote:“That after the guest’s stay, he gave our clients the sum of N105, 000 as tips for the good time that he had at the hotel. According to the letter, the ex-Minister on September 17, forcefully took the victims, one of whom was a married woman to the hotel warehouse in the presence and assistance of the armed mobile policemen and at gunpoint ordered them “to pull off their clothes”. Recall that the Minister made headlines after being accused of arresting four of his hotel staff and stripping them naked for allegedly stealing N5,000. The four staff of the hotel have been identified as Gloria Oguzie, Victor Ephraim, Rosslyn Okiemute and Achibong Precious. It was also alleged that the hotel management forcefully made some withdrawals from their bank accounts with their ATM cards before the police took them away in a waiting van. However commenting on the incident at a press conference held at his country home in Oginibo, Ughelli South council area of Delta state, Gbagi stressed that the said staff were not employees of the hotel but “freelancers”. He added that there are records to back this up. He further alleged that his political detractors who are out to truncate his plans to contest for the 2023 gubernatorial race in the state, are behind the trending video and photos. In a statement released by the Delta state police spokesperson DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, Gbagi was accused of refusing to honor several police invitations.
