Some unknown gunmen today, afternoon abducted a man, Mr. Jide Ijadare along Ilupeju-Ijan road while working in his oil company.

According to report from some members of the community, a corps member serving at the company was also shot dead by the kidnapers.

The incident came less than forty eight hours after a Director in the Local Government Service Commission in Ekiti state was assassinated.


Ijadare’s security aide was killed on the spot.
He was said to have come home from the USA to start a Palmoil Producing Factory in Ijan, his hometown, with his factory  employing over 50 people.



When contacted, the Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Sunday Abutu confirmed the incident, saying that security agents were combing the bush to arrest the abductors.

Gunmen abduct retired U.S. Army Major in Ekiti, kill his worker

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Tuesday September 15, killed one person and abducted two, including a retired United States of America army general, Major Jide Ijadare, along Ijan Ekiti –Ise Ekiti Road in Ijan Ekiti , Gbonyin Council area of Ekiti State.
 
It was gathered that the gunmen invaded Ijadare’ s palm oil -producing factory located along the road and shot dead a staff before whisking the retired army officer and another person off to an unknown place.
 
A source said the gunmen numbering seven shot at the worker while making efforts to kidnap Ijadare and the other victim.
 
"They shot one of the staff of the factory and killed him. They, thereafter, dragged Major Ijadare and the other staff into the car and zoomed off." the source said.

Kidnappers of retired U.S Army officer demand N20m ransom

The kidnappers of a retired United States of America Army officer, Major Jide Ijadare, have demanded a sum of N20 million for his release.
 
Recall that gunmen abducted Ijadare and one of his staff on Tuesday, September 15, around 2:05 pm at his palm-oil producing factory located along Ijan-Ise road in Ijan Ekiti, Gbonyin Local Government area of Ekiti State. A man identified as a contractor with the factory was shot.
 
A family source who confirmed the development to journalists on Wednesday, said that the abductors had contacted one of them and demanded the huge sum as ransom.
 
"Yes, they contacted one of the family members this morning(Wednesday)  and made that demand. Though, the matter had been reported to the police since life was involved and they are also doing their own bit to ensuring that the abductors are released in time” the source said.

However, spokesperson of the State Police Command, Mr.Sunday Abutu, said the command was not aware of any ransom being demanded by the kidnappers.


“We are not aware of any ransom being demanded by the abductors. But our men are in the bush combing everywhere to ensure his release. The police Commissioner,  Mr Babatunde Mobayo had deployed different units of police operatives in the factory and the surrounding forests," said Abutu.

 
"We are assuring the people that the abductees will be released safe and sound and in good health and we appeal to the public to give us useful information that can help our men and other local hunters we are working with." he added.

Kidnapped retired U.S Army officer regains freedom in Ekiti after ransom payment

The retired United States of America army officer, Major Jide Ijadare kidnapped in Ekiti State has regained his freedom after the payment of undisclosed sum as ransom.
 
Recall that gunmen last Tuesday, invaded Ijadare’s palm oil factory along Ijan Ekiti - Ise Ekiti Road at Ijan in the Gbonyin council area of the state, shot dead one of his workers before whisking away the former soldier and one other person. The kidnappers contacted the family hours later and demanded N20m ransom. See previous report Here
 
A family source, who confirmed the development said that Ijadare was released on Saturday afternoon, September 19.
 
"My brother was released this afternoon around 4 .15pm and he has reunited with the family.  He regained his freedom after paying ransom to the kidnappers based on a series of negotiations," the source said.

However, the Police Public Relations Officer of Ekiti State Police Command, Sunday Abutu , who confirmed the release, said the police were not aware that any ransom was paid.

 
"We are not aware of any ransom paid. We believe he was released following the pressure security agencies and local hunters put on the kidnappers by combing the surrounding bushes." said Abutu.
