Commander of the Four Special Forces command, Doma local government area, Brigadier General Maude Ali Gadzama said the militia leader was killed in a firefight with military personnel. The deceased who was accused of killing several innocent persons, had a N10 million naira bounty on him. During the operation, the troops succeeded in arresting the occupant, Gber (Tiv Swem), who is an ally of the wanted notorious criminal, Akwazar Terwase (alias Gana). It will be recalled that he was declared wanted by the security agencies and has been at large since 2016. Preliminary investigation shows that Mr. Tordue Gber (Tiv Swem) acts as spiritual counselor that provides Gana with “diabolical” powers and the shrine serves as hideout for wanted armed militia, meeting and planning point for operations and logistics base for the criminal armed militias that operate in Benue, Nasarawa and Taraba States. The native Doctor was arrested along with one of his accomplice, Mr. Atoo Kuwe Francis, while planning to carry out an attack and abduct one Mr. Zaya at Tse Bente village in the same LGA. However, Mr. Tordue was shot dead during the struggle to disarm him. The troops recovered a locally fabricated Pistol, 2 Baretta Pistols, 11 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 3 motorcycles and assorted charms. Other items include warm clothings for concealing weapons, 2 Mobile telephones and 3 power generators, amongst other items at the hideout. Forty of his men were said to have been captured. Gadzama revealed Gana was killed this evening in a firefight with military personnel. Gana had been on the wanted list of security operatives after he was fingered in various criminal acts including the murder of the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Samuel Ortom on Special Security, Denen Igbana. A bounty of N5 million was initially promised anyone who could give useful information that would lead to Gana’s arrest in 2018. The ransom was later jacked up to N10 million and then N50 million. The Benue State Governor said this while receiving some repentant criminals in the state on Tuesday September 8. Ortom who wondered why the army will arrest Gana even when they know about the state government’s amnesty programme, said he got a call about Gana's interception and immediately reached out to the army authorities. The Benue state Governor who said this after a five-hour security meeting at the Government House Makurdi on Friday September 11, also called for the release of some official vehicles purportedly confiscated by the military authorities. Ortom disclosed that he is spearheading the call for the release of the repentant militias to enable them to embrace the amnesty programme of the state government.
