Suspected serial killer in Ibadan escapes from police custody - Edoman - 08-16-2020 Suspected serial killer in Ibadan escapes from police custody The Oyo State Police Command has announced the escape of the prime suspect in connection with the serial ritual killings of over five persons in Akinyele, Moniya in Ibadan. Recall that the prime suspect, 19-year-old Sunday Shodipe, was paraded before newsmen on July 17. The State Commissioner of Police, CP Joe Nwachukwu Enwonwu, disclosed this to newsmen through a statement released by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Olugbenga Fadeyi, on Sunday, August 16. According to the statement, Shodipe escaped from police custody on August 11. The statement in part reads Quote:''The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP. Joe Nwachukwu Enwonwu, psc wishes to state that, the prime suspect in the serial killings at Akinyele Local Government Area, Moniya Ibadan of Oyo State, one Sunday Shodipe ‘m’ 19 years who was arrested and paraded along with two others at the Oyo State Police Command on 17th July, 2020 and later charged to court but remanded in Police custody escaped from lawful custody on 11/08/2020. He was recently declared wanted by the Police following his illegal escape from Police custody on August 11. The spokesperson of the state police command, SP. Olugbenga Fadeyi, confirmed his rearrest to newsmen this afternoon Sunday, August 23. Shodipe was re-arrested at his grandma’s place at the Ojoo area of Ibadan and is currently being detained at the Eleyele police station. Speaking on Wednesday August 26, while being paraded by Oyo state commissioner of police Nwachukwu Enwonwu, Shodipe revealed that he fled the police station to carry out rituals in the interest of one Idris Ajani, a 50-year-old herbalist he was arrested with. The suspect said the herbalist told him there would have been dire consequences if he did not escape to continue the killings. Shodipe said; Quote:“Baba( herbalist) had been telling Officer Funsho to open the gate to allow us to take our bath but the officer did not answer him. The suspect who was formerly held in police custody due to the congestion at the Nigeria Correctional Service facility in the state, will now be transferred to the facility as confirmed by the state commissioner of police. |
