White Woman Calls Police On A Black Man Over Dog Leash In New York (Video - Edoman - 05-26-2020

Quote:A viral video shows a white woman calling police on a black man and frantically claiming he was threatening her after a disagreement over leashing her dog

A white woman called the NYPD and accused a black man of threatening her and her dog after an exchange that started when the man asked the woman to leash her dog in Central Park.

Christian Cooper captured part of the exchange in a now-viral video that was posted to Twitter by his sister. The woman, later identified as Amy Cooper, is shown on video asking Cooper to stop recording her, or she was going to call the cops and tell them "there's an African American man threatening my life." She repeated the statement several times, each time sounding more distressed, while appearing to call 911 dispatch.

Meanwhile, Christian didn't appear to move any closer to Amy. He tells NBC New York that he's an avid bird watcher who was in The Ramble, a popular spot in the park for birders, around 8 a.m. Monday morning. He says he only asked Amy to put her dog on the leash in the area where it's required to have your dog on a leash at all times.

"If the habitat is destroyed we won’t be able to go there to see the birds, to enjoy the plantings," Christian explained on Monday night. When Amy refused, he says he offered her dog a treat and started recording the incident.

"The only way they can keep the dog from eating the treat is to put it on a leash," he said. "At some point, she decided I’m gonna play the race card, I guess."

When Christian refused to stop recording her, Amy grabs her dog's collar and moves away from him to call the police, the video shows.

"There is an African-American man. I am in Central Park. He is recording me and threatening myself and my dog," she said.

The woman repeats her assertions several times to dispatchers while struggling to keep the dog within her control, lifting the dog up and pulling it by its collar several times.

Christian says he continued recording because he wasn't going to be intimidated. "I'm not going to participate in my own dehumanization. I'm not going to feed into this," he said.

"We live in an age of Ahmaud Arbery where black men are gunned down because of assumptions people make about black men, black people, and I’m just not going to participate in that," Christian tells NBC New York, echoing the online criticism Amy received.

Christian stopped recording after Amy finally puts her dog on a leash. He is heard telling her, "Thank you."

By the time officers arrived, Christian had already left. The NYPD said no complaint or arrests were made after police determined the incident was a "verbal dispute."

The video of the incident had over 11 million views on Twitter as of Monday night. Speaking exclusively to NBC New York, Amy says she overreacted but she claimed that Christian was screaming, and that she felt threatened because she didn't know what was in the dog treats.

"I sincerely and humbly apologize to everyone, especially to that man, his family," she said in a phone call. "It was unacceptable and I humbly and fully apologize to everyone who’s seen that video, everyone that’s been offended…everyone who thinks of me in a lower light and I understand why they do."

"When I think about the police, I’m such a blessed person. I’ve come to realize especially today that I think of [the police] as a protection agency, and unfortunately, this has caused me to realize that there are so many people in this country that don’t have that luxury," she continued.

As a result of the incident, Amy has been put on administrative by her employer Franklin Templeton, an investment management company.

In response to an incident involving an employee on May 25th, Franklin Templeton issued the following statement.
— Franklin Templeton (@FTI_US) May 26, 2020
In addition to criticism of racism, Amy also received criticism of animal cruelty because she appeared to be choking her dog for nearly a minute after she grabbed it by the collar.

Abandoned Angels Cocker Spaniel Rescue says Amy adopted the dog a few years ago and has "voluntarily surrendered" the dog while the incident is being addressed.

"The dog is now in our rescue’s care and he is safe and in good health," the rescue said.

The incident has sparked outrage and is trending in US, Nigeria, UK and Germany

"I can't breathe" Horrific video shows moment African American man is killed after a Minneapolis police officer knelt on his neck to restrain him

FBI has joined the investigation into the death of a Black man named George Lloyd who died on Monday, May 25, after a Minneapolis police officer forced his knee into his neck to keep him pinned to the ground.

In a video going viral, a police officer is seen holding George down after he "physically resisted officers".

"I can't breathe," he kept repeating but the cops didn't listen.

The cop who was kneeling on his neck did not ease pressure even as the man complained.

"Get up and get in the car," another officer is heard telling George Lloyd but it's clear that the man can't get up unless the officer stops holding him down.

"I can't," George told the cops.

At some point, George starts screaming for his "grandma."

He is also heard saying: "My stomach hurts, my neck hurts, everything hurts."

Bystanders approached the scene and told the officer to get off of the man. One person pointed out that the man’s nose had started to bleed but they didn't listen. The man then stopped moving and appeared to be unresponsive as the ambulance arrived at the scene and placed him on the gurney to take him away.

According to CBS News, the man was later announced dead following the incident.

The video, which was captured by Facebook user Darnella Frazier, was captioned, “They killed him right in front of cup foods over south on 38th and Chicago!! No type of sympathy #POLICEBRUTALITY.”

The Minneapolis police later released a statement claiming that officers responded to a report of “forgery in progress.”

The statement continued to claim, “Officers were advised that the suspect was sitting on top of a blue car and appeared to be under the influence. Two officers arrived and located the suspect, a male believed to be in his 40s, in his car. He was ordered to step from his car. After he got out, he physically resisted officers. Officers were able to get the suspect into handcuffs and noted he appeared to be suffering medical distress. Officers called for an ambulance.”

The police continued to note that no weapons were used during the incident and body cameras were worn and activated during that time.

The officers involved were placed on paid administrative leave.

A number of Black American celebrities have reacted in outrage to George's death.

Photo emerges showing the White cop who knelt on George Floyd's neck wearing a "Make Whites Great Again" hat as it's revealed this is not his first time harming a civilian

The identities of at least two of the 4 cops involved in the death of an African American man, George Floyd, have been revealed and one of the officers, the one who knelt on George's neck, is being termed a racist after a photo of him wearing a "Make Whites Great Again" hat emerged.

Minneapolis police officer, Derek Chauvin, 44, is seen kneeling on George’s neck in a video shared online. The video was almost 10 minutes long and for most of it, Derek had his knee in George's neck even as the Black man continually complained that he couldn’t breathe.

As Derek Chavin - a 19-year veteran of the force - knelt on George's neck, two other officers held George down by his stomach and legs.

Even after George started bleeding from his nose and became unconscious, Derek didn't stop kneeling on his neck.

New photos of Derek with the "Make Whites Great Again" hat has now led social media users to say that he has always been a racist and saw George, a Black man, as an ''animal.''

This is not Derek Chauvin's first time harming a civilian. In 2008, Chauvin shot and wounded Ira Latrell Toles during a domestic assault call. According to a 2011 article from the Pioneer Press, Chauvin and other officers showed up to an apartment in south Minneapolis just before 2 a.m. Toles grabbed for an officer’s gun and Chauvin shot him in the abdomen.

Also, in 2006, Chauvin and five others responded to a stabbing. After Wayne Reyes, 42, allegedly pulled a shotgun on the officers, one of the officers shot and killed Reyes, according to a report titled "Stolen Lives" from Communities United Against Police Brutality, a police watchdog nonprofit based in Minneapolis.

Another officer who is being called out online is an Asian American cop who stood by during the assault on George Floyd and exchanged words with bystanders who told them to free George. His name is Tou Thao.

This is also not Thao's first time of being accused of police brutality. In 2017, a man named Lamar Ferguson sued Thao and another officer, Robert Thunder, for excessive use of force. According to the lawsuit, Ferguson and a woman, who was eight months pregnant, were walking home when Thao and Thunder stopped and searched them without cause. The officers handcuffed Ferguson, and Thao threw him to the ground and began punching him, while Thunder kicked him, according to the allegations.

The officers took Ferguson to the hospital for medical treatment. Afterward, they escorted Ferguson to jail wearing only his underwear and T-shirt, rejecting hospital staff’s requests that he be allowed to fully dress, according to the complaint.

Thao was laid off for two years and returned to the department in 2012.

Meanwhile, friends and family have gone on Facebook to mourn George Floyd.

Floyd’s sister, Vanita Williams-Dabney, wrote on Facebook, "My bro was killed by Minneapolis police on Memorial Day …R I.P. bro we will get Justice for u ..gone2soon ..loveU4life."

George Floyd’s fiancee speaks out, says people should forgive cop who killed him

George Floyd, the unarmed Black man who died after a Minneapolis police officer knelt on his neck, has been mourned by loved ones, including his fiancée who granted an interview to talk about him.

George's fiancée, Courteney Ross said the deceased was a "gentle giant" to those who knew him.

The 46-year-old trucker moved to Minneapolis from Houston about four or five years ago looking for better job opportunities and he was doing well in Minneapolis, it was revealed.

Ross said Floyd's daughter still lives in Houston, and so do a lot of his family and friends.

Ross also called for protesters to forgive the cop who killed George.

"You know, if he was here, he would say that he's a man of God. He would stand on that firmly," Ross said.

"He stood up for people, he was there for people when they were down, he loved people that were thrown away," Ross added. "We prayed over every meal, we prayed if we were having a hard time, we prayed if we were having a good time."

Ross said she knows the community is hurting, and she hopes they respond in a way that honors Floyd.

"You can't fight fire with fire. Everything just burns, and I've seen it all day, people hate, they're hating, they're hating, they're mad. And he would not want that. He wouldn't, he wouldn't, he wouldn't. He would give grace. I stand on that today. He would still give grace to those people," she said.

Ross said Floyd's mother died about a year ago. She believes his mother's spirit was there with him when he took his last breath.

African Americans have reacted in outrage to Ross' call for forgiveness.

Others who knew Floyd have also spoken about the man he was.

"If anybody knows him, they know he's not a confrontational person. And I'm not just saying this because that happened to him. Anybody who knows him will tell you he's not confrontational," said Floyd's friend Milton Carney.

These THUGS are dishonoring the memory of George Floyd, and I won’t let that happen' -Trump threatens to use military if the protests and looting in Minneapolis isn't stopped

US president, Donald Trump, has threatened to send the military to Minneapolis if the protests, burning of properties and looting in the city over the killing of George Floyd by a white police man isn't stopped.

In the viral video recording of George Floyd's death, police officer Derek Chauvin is seen kneeling on George’s neck. The video was almost 10 minutes long and for most of it, Derek had his knee on George's neck even as the Black man complained that he couldn’t breathe.

As Derek Chauvin knelt on George's neck, two other officers held George down by his stomach and legs. Even after George started bleeding from his nose and became unconscious, Derek didn't stop kneeling on his neck which eventually led to George's death.

Since George's death which caused an outcry on social media, riots have been occurring in Minneapolis, with shops being burnt, property being damaged, looting occurring and on thursday night, the Third Precinct police station in Minneapolis was set ablaze.

Now Trump has reacted, saying he wont sit back and watch as chaos continues in the city. He also referred to the protesters as 'thugs' saying they disrespect the memory of George Floyd.

Taking to twitter to write about the “total lack of leadership” in Minneapolis, Trump said

Quote:I can’t stand back & watch this happen to a great American City, Minneapolis. A total lack of leadership. Either the very weak Radical Left Mayor, Jacob Frey, get his act together and bring the City under control, or I will send in the National Guard & get the job done right
These THUGS are dishonoring the memory of George Floyd, and I won’t let that happen. Just spoke to Governor Tim Walz and told him that the Military is with him all the way. Any difficulty and we will assume control but, when the looting starts, the shooting starts. Thank you!

A Washington state high school wrestling coach has been fired for mocking the murder of George Floyd by a white Minneapolis police officer.

Dave Hollenbeck, the first-year coach at Bethel High School posted a photo of himself on the floor, with a knee to the back of his neck as he smiles. The photo was similar to the images seen in the viral video of Floyd being pinned down by a white Minneapolis cop on Monday before he died.

“Not dead yet I’m doing this for our police officers the media is a race baiting machine and I’m tired of it,” Hollenbeck wrote on Facebook. “I’m going to speak out every time if you don’t like that I’m sorry but I love All people.. Wake up America.”

In another post, Hollenbeck wrote, “This is for all the race baiters and people that don’t What they’re talking about when they’re saying this could kill you.”

The posts have since been deleted.

In a statement released by Bethel School District, they confirmed Dave Hollenbeck has been fired for his insensitive post.

"We have completed our investigation. Dave Hollenbeck is no longer employed by the Bethel School District. His behavior was not consistent with our equity initiatives and nondiscrimination policies,” said district spokesman Doug Boyles.

Hollenbeck later defended his post in an interview with KIRO 7.

"I did not tell any lies; I showed that I was OK from a knee on my neck. That is it,” Hollenbeck said. “I did not say anything racist and maybe it was insensitive at the time.”

Minneapolis man narrates how he was almost killed in 2008 by officer Derek Chauvin who knelt on the neck of a black man till he died

A Minneapolis man, who identified Derek Chauvin from the video where he was kneeling on the neck of George Floyd till he died, has told of how the same officer almost killed him in 2008.

According to Daily Beast, Ira Latrell Toles,33, said Derek Chauvin stormed into his home on May 24, 2008, and assaulted him in the bathroom before shooting him in the stomach.

After watching the video on George Floyd's tragic death on Tuesday evening, Toles texted his sister saying Chauvin might have been the cop who shot him.

His sister watched the video fo Derek Chauvin kneeling on George Floyd's neck for 9 minutes and she confirmed that he was indeed the one who shot him in 2008.

Toles, who still experiences stomach pain to this day, says George Floyd would have been alive today if Chauvin was punished for shooting him in 2008.

"If he was reprimanded when he shot me, George Floyd would still be alive," Toles said.

Recall that LIB reported that the two officers identified from the video of George's death have harmed civilians before and got away with it (read here).

Toles said his own experience with officer Derek Chauvin occurred when the mother of his child called the police and several officers arrived at the home without announcing themselves.

"When I saw that he breached the front door, I ran in the bathroom. Then [Chauvin] starts kicking in that door. I was in the bathroom with a cigarette and no lighter."

He said he started to hit Chauvin in self-defense and was shot because he allegedly tried to grab the officer’s gun.

After receiving treatment at the Hennepin County Medical Center, Toles was transported to court where he was charged with two counts of felonious obstruction of legal process or arrest and a misdemeanor for domestic assault.

"To turn a misdemeanor disorderly situation into a felony situation that could have resulted in me dying? He tried to kill me in that bathroom," Toles added.

Chauvin and the other officers were placed on paid leave pending an investigation.

"I knew he would do something again, I wish we had smartphones back then," Toles said.

This shouldn’t be "normal" in 2020 America' - Barack Obama issues a statement on the death of George Floyd

Former US President Barack Obama has issued a statement on the death of George Floyd, the black man who died after being pinned down by a white police officer in Minneapolis on Monday.

Obama, 58,  released a statement via his Twitter page, saying it "cannot be normal" in 2020 and urged the Minnesota authorities to 'ensure that the circumstances surrounding George Floyd's death are investigated thoroughly'.

Obama, U.S. first black president, added: "This shouldn't be 'normal' in 2020 America. It can't be normal. If we want our children to grow up in a nation that lives to its highest ideals, we can and must do better.

"It was fall mainly on the officials of Minnesota to ensure that the circumstances surrounding George Floyd's death is investigated thoroughly and that justice is ultimately done.

"But it falls on all of us, regardless of our race or station - including the majority of men and women in law enforcement who take pride in doing their tough job the right way, every day - to work together to create a "new normal" in which the legacy of bigotry and unequal treatment no longer infects our institutions or our hearts."

"It's natural to wish for life "to just get back to normal" as a pandemic and economic crisis upend everything around us," he said.

"But we have to remember that for millions of Americans, being treated differently on account of race is tragically, painfully and maddeningly "normal" - whether it's while dealing with the healthcare system, or interacting with the criminal justice system, or jogging down the street, or just watching birds in a park."

Obama's statement was released shortly before it was announced that Derek Chauvin, the officer who knelt on Floyd, has been arrested and charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter.

#GeorgeFloyd: Trump designates anti-fascist group ANTIFA as a terrorist organization

In the wake of protests that erupted in different American cities over the police killing of George Floyd last week, US President Donald J. Trump on Sunday announced that the US would be designating ‘Antifa’ as a terrorist organization.

Antifa, who describe themselves as an anti-fascist group, have been targeted by Trump during times of civil unrest and protests, and Trump and Attorney General William Barr have blamed ‘Antifa’ for violence and property damage during the protests.

Antifa, short for anti-fascists, is a fluid movement consisting of left-wing activists, anarchists and other militant anti-fascist demonstrators.

Trump's designation would place the group in the same bracket with international organizations such as ISIS and Al Qaeda, as well as white supremacist organizations such as the Ku Klux Klan .

“The United States of America will be designating ANTIFA as a Terrorist Organization,” Trump tweeted on Sunday evening .
In other tweets , Trump continued:
"Congratulations to our National Guard for the great job they did immediately upon arriving in Minneapolis, Minnesota, last night. The ANTIFA led anarchists, among others, were shut down quickly. Should have been done by Mayor on first night and there would have been no trouble!"

*Other Democrat run Cities and States should look at the total shutdown of Radical Left Anarchists in Minneapolis last night. The National Guard did a great job, and should be used in other States before it is too late!"

In another tweet, Trump blamed the media for fomenting hatred and anarchy' as a result of George Floyd's death.
"The Lamestream Media is doing everything within their power to foment hatred and anarchy. As long as everybody understands what they are doing, that they are FAKE NEWS and truly bad people with a sick agenda, we can easily work through them to GREATNESS!"

Back in August, 2017, during the Charlottesville violence, Trump targeted Antifa when he condemned left-wing activists who violently clashed with white supremacists and said there were “very fine people on both sides.”
