Man who abducted teenage girl, Ese Oruru, from Bayelsa and took her to Kano where he forcefully married and impregnated her, sentenced to 26 years imprisonment

Justice Jane Inyang of the Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, has sentenced Yinusa Dalhiru to 26 years imprisonment for abducting then 14-year-old teenage girl, Ese Oruru, from her home in Bayelsa state to Kano state where he got married to her and impregnated her.

Ese made news in 2015 after the story of her abduction by Yinusa was widely reported. Yinusa had met the 14 -year-old Ese at her mother's shop where he and his peers go to buy food. He abducted and took her to Kano on August 12th, 2015 where he forcefully married her and had her name changed to Aisha after she was converted to a Muslim.

After months of outcry from her parents and Human rights activists, she was returned to Bayelsa in March 2016, pregnant with a child. She was delivered of her baby girl on May 26th, 2016.

Ese in an interview said she did not know how she followed him to Kano.

Yinusa was arrested and arraigned in court on charges bordering on child trafficking, child abuse, rape, kidnap, infringement of right of religion, and holding a person against their will.

After four years of litigation, Justice Inyang on Thursday morning May 21, convicted him and sentenced him to 26 years in prison.

Presidential Aide, Bashir Ahmed reacts after being called out for promising to influence Yunusa Dahiru’s 26 year jail sentence

Presidential Aide, Bashir Ahmed has reacted to the social media storm he ignited after promising to influence the 26 year jail sentence Yunusa Dahiru (Yellow) was handed by a Federal High Court in Yenagoa, after being found guilty of child trafficking and sexually exploiting an underage girl, Ese Oruru.

Dahiru abducted Oruru from her family house at Opolo area of Yenagoa on August 12, 2015 and took her to his home state, Kano, where he forcefully converted her to Islam.

The minor, who was 13-years-old at the time of the incident, was raped, resulting in pregnancy. She was eventually rescued by the police in February 2016 and brought back to Yenagoa in early March, where she gave birth to a baby girl in May of the same year.

Bashir Ahmad commented on the trial after being asked to intervene by a Twitter user, Hammad Yusuf Saleh who claimed the conviction was manipulated.

His tweet read;

Quote: "Please Bashir, do something about Yunusa Yellow for Allah's sake, he is wrongly accused and sentenced, the whole matter is manipulated, we need to appeal for him."

Reacting to tweet, the Presidential aide who admitted that he has no power to influence the court judgement, promised to contact those who can.

Bashir Ahmad tweeted in response;

Quote:"I do not have the power to do anything against the judgment of the court, but I will try to contact those whom I think are capable."

Reacting to the outrage his tweet incited, the Presidential aide claimed that he commented on the Yunusa Yellow saga without knowing and understanding the details of the case.

He wrote in a rejoinder tweet;

Quote:I commented on the Yunusa Yellow saga earlier, without knowing and understanding the details of the case. Eloping or rather, kidnapping a minor and forcing her to marry you shouldn’t be taken lightly. A condemnable act!
