Two nurses and a doctor have reportedly tested positive for Coronavirus at a government hospital in Abuja.
SaharaReporters reported that a senior medical worker at the hospital who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the infected health workers were part of medical personnel that attended to an infected person brought into the hospital.
Quote:“The patient was rushed to the hospital and as our job demands, we have to save life first and that was what we did. The person was attended to and stabilised by the medical team.
A test was soon conducted and the result came out positive. The hospital thereafter asked all those who attended to the patient to undergo tests to determine their status and at the end of the day, two doctors and one nurse tested positive for the virus. They are currently in isolation at the Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital.”the source said
The Senior Health worker accused the Federal government of not providing medical workers with quality Personal Protective Equipment among other gears needed to protect themselves as they attend to patients with the infectious disease.
Quote:“The unfortunate thing is that the government is not providing us with what to work with. It is sad that our PPE is not up to the world standard and can be penetrated by viruses.
Some of us (health workers) have to use our personal funds to purchase gloves as we do not trust the ones government supplied. Nigerians should please remember us in their prayers and the government should provide us with what we really need to work.” the source said

21-year-old woman tests positive for coronavirus after boasting about ignoring social distancing

A 21-year-old Instagram user identified as Ireland Tate, has shared her horrific symptoms after testing positive for coronavirus.
Before undergoing a medical test for coronavirus, the Nashville lady had boasted about ignoring the social distancing order, rules to stay at home and spent the day with a group of friends after saying she "didn't think she was going to get the virus".
She said in a viral video;
Quote:“I’m aware that we’re supposed to be self-quarantining and social distancing and all these things to like keep everyone safe get it, cool, great.
“I just don’t think that I’m gonna get the virus.
Ireland who is now quarantined inside her parents’ home with painful symptoms, is now urging other young adults to take the virus threat seriously.
Recounting how she got the virus, Ireland disclosed that someone she had been in contact with had the virus but didn’t know.
She said;
Quote:“A little update on corona, isolated quarantine, and why staying home is important. If you hadn’t heard by now I tested positive for COVID19 on Wednesday.
"I developed a minor sore throat, but nothing to be concerned about and decided to call the hospital to let them know the situation.
“They recommended that I come in to get tested, I really didn’t think I had it but I went and got tested anyway. 3 days later they called to tell me it was positive.
“I didn’t really have any new symptoms other than being extra tired and body aches.
Then I developed a cough, a terrible migraine that is going on 4 days strong, loss of appetite, shortness of breath, and just overall a gross feeling.
“I say all of this to say that I didn’t think that I would get it, I made jokes about it and made funny videos about ‘if I get it I get it, it’s not a big deal’ and here I am. It’s not just effecting the older generation.”
Ireland claimed that in her home state of Tennessee, there are four times as many cases among people aged 21-30 as there are among those aged 61-70.
She said;
Quote:“Yes our immune systems might be stronger, we might be able to get it and get over it but that’s not the point. The point is that we can flatten the curve, we can give healthcare workers less to worry about if you would just stay inside.
“I’m going on day 4 of isolated quarantine and I am not having a good time. I am bored, I am starting to feel very antsy being alone and in such a small space for so long. As an extrovert and a 7, this is not a good time for me, but I’m trying to make the most of it.”
