COVID-19: Buhari Tests Negative, Kyari Is Positive - Edoman - 03-24-2020
Quote:Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has tested negative for the COVID-19 virus (Coronavirus), following a test for the disease that was carried out yesterday on the president by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), THISDAY can report.
The NCDC has informed the president on the outcome his negative result this morning in Abuja.
According to presidential sources, the test for the president was necessitated after his Chief of Staff, Mr. Abba Kyari tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday.
Kyari had travelled to Germany on Saturday, March 7th to meet with officials of Siemens in Munich on the Nigerian electricity expansion programme.
He returned exactly one week later on Saturday, March 14th, but did not show any symptoms.
He was said to have been at a meeting on containing the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria all through Sunday, where he reportedly started to cough.
Subsequently, he voluntarily submitted himself for testing and was informed of his status yesterday.
Kyari has however gone into absolute isolation following the test result.
THISDAY gathered that he is hale and hearty and showing no symptoms apart from the occasional cough.

Activities in Nigeria's seat of power, Aso Villa, Abuja, has been shut down following the confirmation on Tuesday that Abba Kyari, Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu, had tested positive for Coronavirus.
The confirmation comes hours after SaharaReporters exclusively reported that Kyari was seriously ill and suspected of having Coronavirus after returning from trips to Germany and Egypt where the virus had killed dozens of persons.
The lockdown of Aso Villa, according to top insiders, was to prevent a further spread of the virus especially after Kyari came in contact with several high-ranking Presidency officials.
SaharaReporters gathered that Kyari met with Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Buhari, Babagana Kingibe, a prominent member of the 'cabal' and Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, in recent days.
Shehu and Kingibe are said to have been in self-isolation since Kyari's infection emerged while there are indications that Governor Bello may have toed the same path, too, to protect himself.
Kyari had visited Bello recently over the loss of his mother.
According to findings by SaharaReporters, Kyari is currently being isolated for treatment at a guest chalet in the Defence House in Abuja.
The Presidency is yet to issue an official reaction on the situation.

Members of the presidential task force on COVID-19 including the Secretary-General of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, and the Minister for Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed today visited the Presidential Villa and the office of the Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari.
When approached by newsmen to comment on reports of Kyari being infected with coronavirus, Lai Mohammed responded it is against the ethics of the medical profession to disclose the identity of a patient.

THERE is palpable fears at the State House as three staff of the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari have tested positive to coronavirus (COVID-19).
A presidential source confirmed the development.
Meanwhile all the aides at the Vice President’s wing with the exception of his media aide did not turn up for work.
A source said the VP reported late to work on Monday afternoon unlike him.
Most of his aides had face masks and hand gloves on when they came to work on Monday.
Meanwhile the villa is on a gradual lockdown as none essential staff have been asked to stay away.

President Buhari's daughter, Zahra took to Instagram to make an indirect remark about coronavirus which is currently ravaging most countries around the world.
In her Instastory post, Zahra stated that the earth is cleansing itself and its inhabitants.
