The pipeline explosion which rocked Abule Ado community of Lagos State in the early hours of today, also affected a boarding school. 
 
In a videos shared online, some students of the school identified as 'Bethlehem Girls College' were spotted being evacuated from the scene of the explosion. 
 
The casualty figure of the incident which destroyed many properties is still unknown at the time of filing this report.

Henrietta Alokha Is Dead! The Principal Of Bethlehem Girls College Dies In Lagos 


Following the aftermath of the explosion that rockes the Abule-Ado environs of Lagos State today, Rev. Sr. Henrietta Alokha has been confirmed dead.

She had tried saving the children under her care, and went back to save more before the roof caved in on her.

Most of the students have been accounted for, with minor cuts and injuries, whilst some whose injuries were more severe are at the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital, Ojo.

An eye witness reported that: “The roof of our building is off and a nearby school is on fire.”
Reports have it that she was able to rescue all the students until she succumbed to the fire.

 Couple Died In Explosion In Abule Ado, Lagos (Photos)

An explosion rocked the Abule Ado area of Lagos state in the early hours of this morning, 15th of March 2015.

The National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA) put the death toll at 15 as of Sunday evening, a family of 4 and 11 others.
There are reports on social media that a beautiful couple met their untimely death in the explosion.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) said a truck which hit gas cylinders around the corporation’s pipeline right of way triggered the explosion.

Many houses were destroyed while vehicles got damaged in the explosion which reverberated across Nigeria’s most populous city.

Residents and witnesses counter their losses. At the headquarters of the Lagos province 3 of the Redeemed Church of God (RCCG) located on 24 Road, Festac town, the explosion which occurred more than a kilometre away from the church premises, shattered glass windows, injuring worshippers.

A parish of the First Baptist Church near the RCCG parish also lost a part of its roof. The roof of a parish of the Living Faith Church (Winners Chapel) located at 7th avenue, Festac, was also blown off in addition to that of the Ark Parish of the RCCG at first avenue.

The Odic Plaza, a motor parts mall and warehouse, Bush Bar Hotel, Green Horse Plaza which houses tyres, Arch Angel Catholic Church, Chino Plaza with many goods in it, and a mechanic village, all located inside the Trade Fair Complex, Ojo, were all hit by the explosion.

Lagos explosion: Ohanaeze, residents react as Reverend Sister, 16 others confirmed dead

Some residents of Abule Ado in Amuwo-Odofin LGA of Lagos State, have lamented over the ravaging effects of the oil pipeline explosion which occurred on Sunday morning.


The explosion which occurred at about 9.00 a.m. on Sunday morning killed at least 17 people and destroyed more than 70 buildings including schools, churches, hotels and warehouses, Femi Oke-Osayintolu, Director-General of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said.


The Bethlehem Girls School, owned by the Catholic Church, were among buildings reduced to rubbles as couple and a Catholic reverend sister were among those feared dead.



Reacting, Chief Solomon Ogbonna, the President of Ohaneze Ndigbo in Lagos State, called on the state government to conduct a thorough investigation into the explosion.


“The government must immediately do all that is necessary to avert a reoccurrence.


“I am calling on the Lagos State Government to investigate this and not dismiss it as a mere gas explosion.



“The damage is huge,’’ Ogbonna said.
One of the residents, Mr Japheth Okafor, told the NAN that he narrowly death from the explosion.


He said that an alarm raises by his boss alerted him and others to escape through a window.



“Before the explosion, the sky changed to white and we started perceiving gas odour; few minutes after, there was an explosion.


“My boss screamed and asked us to jump through the window.


“That was how we escaped this morning,’’ Okafor said.
The impact of the explosion was felt kilometres away in Lagos as windows , doors of houses were shattered.
Meanwhile, Mr Mele Kyari, Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, blamed the fire on gas leakage from activities around an oil pipeline.

Death toll from Lagos explosion rises to 20

The death toll from the explosion that rocked the Abule Ado area in Lagos state on Sunday March 15th, has risen to 20.
 
Men of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority LASEMA, on Monday morning recovered three more bodies from the rubble of some of the collapsed buildings at the Bethlehem Girls College in Abule-Ado.
 
17 bodies including that of a family of four were recovered on Sunday March 16 from the scene of the explosion.

Anambra businessman, Elder Obi Iyoo, his wife, son and their houseboy were killed in the Sunday’s explosion which occurred at Abule Ado, Trade Fair axis of Lagos state.
 
The family were caught by the explosion on their way to church at about 9:00a.m. on Sunday.
 
The dead couple are from Enugwu-Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra state.
 
Meanwhile family and friends have taken to social media to mourn them.

The burial ceremony of Reverend Sister Henrietta Alokha, the Principal of Bethlehem Girls College who died while rescuing students after a gas explosion earlier this month in Abule Ado community of Lagos State, was held yesterday in Atani -Uromi, Edo state. 
 
The burial ceremony of the Reverend Sister was attended by her colleagues, loved ones and family members.

President Buhari had also paid tribute to the late Principal. In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity Mr Femi Adesina, Buhari saluted the heroic spirit of the Reverend Sister Henrietta Alokha. 
 
The statement read; 
 
Quote:“As remains of the Principal of Bethlehem High School, Abule-Ado, Lagos, Rev. Sis. Henrietta Alokha, is laid to rest, President Muhammadu Buhari joins staff members and students in mourning the huge loss to the school, and the country.

“The President believes Sis. Alokha’s choice to lay down her life for the students she loved deserves commendation, while taking into consideration her contributions to the educational development of the country through piety, diligence and charity.


“President Buhari salutes her courage and heroism, assuring that posterity will remember her sacrificial spirit, rescuing children kept under her care, and putting her own life on the line.

“The President prays that the almighty God will accept her soul, comfort her family, and all those she lived and died for.

“President Buhari, again, condoles with all those who lost their loved ones and property in the pipeline explosion, praying that God will strengthen them in the trying period."
