FG ‘doing nothing’ to prevent spread of Coronavirus - Senate raises alarm - Edoman - 02-28-2020 FG ‘doing nothing’ to prevent spread of Coronavirus - Senate raises alarm The Senate during Thursday's plenary session, criticized the measures put in place at the nation’s point of entry by the Federal Ministry of Health to prevent the spread of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) in the country. Deputy Leader of the Senate, Senator Ajayi Borofice pointed out that the measures the Ministry of Health instituted at the nation's ports is quite different from the South African government's response. Borofice who disclosed that passengers are screened in the airplane before being allowed to set foot in South Africa, said Nigerian health officials only hand out sheet of papers at airports to international passengers, indicating how they can be contacted when there is an emergency. The Deputy leader of the senate said; Quote:“When we got to South Africa we were not allowed to leave the aircraft for over 30 minutes. On his own part, the Senate President Ahmad Lawan said effort to prevent spread of coronavirus in the country should be intensified. He stated that passengers from China should be quarantined between two to four weeks rather than being asked to self isolate upon arriving the country. Lawan said; Quote: “Today every country in the world tries to ensure that if it has coronavirus, it limits it to those that are affected and that it does not go beyond those that are affected. |
