Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Michika Local Government Area of Adamawa State, Lawan Andimi has reportedly been executed by Boko Haram insurgents.

Ahmed Salkida, a journalist known to have access to Boko Haram and who was once a mediator between the insurgents and the Nigerian government confirmed the report.

He said the Pastor who was declared missing after a foiled attack on Michika Local Government Area in Adamawa by Boko Haram, was executed yesterday January 20.

Salkida wrote;

Quote:To break some news items can traumatize. I'm battling with one of such. Reverend Andimi, abducted by #BokoHaram was executed yesterday. Rev. Andimi was a church leader, a father to his children and the community he served. My condolences go to his family.
Reverend Lawan Andimi was beheaded yesterday afternoon, the video of the appalling executions with that of a soldier was obtained at 2:42pm. I made sure that the family, the authorities and the church were duly informed before the news was put out to the public this morning.

President Buhari has condemned the execution of Rev. Lawan Andimi, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) chairman, who was abducted by Boko Haram insurgents during an attack in Michika, Adamawa State.

In a statement released by his media aide Garba Shehu, the President described the execution as cruel, inhuman and deliberately provocative. He also disclosed that the insurgents expressed willingness to release the abducted CAN President to a third party before the execution.

The statement read in parts;

Quote:“President Buhari consoles the Christian community all over Nigeria, the government and people of Adamawa state and the Bishop’s family over the sad loss of the man of God and assures that terrorists will continue to pay a heavy price for their actions and would comprehensively be defeated by our determined armed forces.
“President urged nations of the world to end all support provided to Boko Haram and Islam in West Africa, ISWA terrorist groups whose only goal is to sow death, violence and destruction in the sub-region."

Quote:MURIC Condemns killing of CAN Chairman

January 22, 2020

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has condemned the murder of Lawan Andimi, chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on Wednesday in Michika local government area of Adamawa.

In a statement issued and signed in Lagos, the MURIC director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, who described the killing as horrific, ungodly and barbaric, said that anyone who kills innocent people does not represent Islam.

“We condemn it in the strongest terms possible. We reiterate our earlier declaration that Boko Haram is not an Islamic group, rather it is a group of misled zealots’’.

Prof. Ishaq Akintola, who sympathized with the leadership of CAN in particular and the Nigerian Christian community, urged all Nigerians regardless of religious background to unite against Boko Haram.

He called on the Nigerian military to leave no stone unturned in its efforts to eliminate the insurgents.

How Femi Adesina sold his soul to Satan – Fani Kayode

 January 25, 2020

Nigeria’s former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has criticized the Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, for attacking the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), following its reaction to the murder of Reverend Lawan Andimi by Boko Haram.

Andimi, the Chairman of CAN in Michika Local government area of Adamawa state was beheaded by the insurgents.
CAN on Thursday rejected the reaction of President Buhari to the killing.

Buhari, who described the murder as cruel, inhuman and deliberately provocative, expressed sorrow that the terrorists went on to kill the religious leader while giving signals at the same time of a willingness to set him free by releasing him to third parties.

But CAN stated that Christians were tired of the usual press releases and condemnations which have failed to make any meaningful impact.
And Adesina in a post on his Facebook page on Friday accused the Christian leaders of labeling Buhari an “anti-christian”.

He was quoted as saying, “Rather than cast the government as omnipotent, it is God that has all powers. And some things are never resolved spiritually except through prayer and fasting. It is not me that said so. Jesus did. So, let the Church be fully involved in supplication for divine intervention in the country, rather than playing subtle politics and unwittingly generating hate in the land.

“CAN says kidnappings and killings are shameful to a government that boasts that it has conquered insurgency. Boasts. So that is all that matters to CAN as if it was an opposition political party? Boasts. No. This would not augur for unity and cohesion in a country. We are not asking the Christian body to be in bed with government, that would not help anybody, but the organization has been sounding too long like a political party. We daily learn to walk with Jesus. His spirit is not an unduly critical one. And He left us an example “that ye should follow in his steps.”
Reacting, Fani-Kayode on his Twitter page, said Femi Adesina has sold his soul to Satan, adding that the blood of the slain CAN Chairman is on his head and President Muhammadu Buhari’s hands.

He said, “Femi Adesina is morally bankrupt. Worse still he has sold his soul to Satan.

“ How can a man who claims to be a Christian attempt to defend the indefensible & insult CAN?

“The blood of Rev. Andimi & every Christian killed by BH & the Fulani are on his hands & the hands of his boss.”

Andimi: ‘You are insensitive’ – Apostle Suleman blasts Femi Adesina over comment on CAN

 January 25, 2020

Apostle Johnson Suleman of Omega Fire Ministries, on Saturday described Femi Adesina, President Muhammadu Buhari’s Media Aide as “insensitive.”

Suleman made the remark while condemning Adesina for attacking the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, following its reaction to the murder of Reverend Lawan Andimi by Boko Haram.

Andimi, the Chairman of CAN in Michika Local government area of Adamawa state was beheaded by the insurgents.

Reacting to Andimi’s execution, CAN had accused the Buhari-led federal government of colluding with Boko Haram to kill Christians.

The body had also faulted Buhari’s reaction to the killing of Andimi.
But, Adesina had lambasted CAN over their comment which was anti-Buhari.

However, Apostle Suleman in a tweet wrote: “Just saw the empty defense of Femi Adesina and his lashing CAN over the beheading of Rev indimi..such insensitive man is a presidential media aide? Certain positions should be given to people who have heads..even if they lack brains, we can manage ‘just head’.
